25 years ago, Soul Asylum’s “Runaway Train” music video featured images of missing children, and helped recover 21 of them. How many can we find with today’s technology and social media?
For the 25th anniversary of Soul Asylum’s “Runaway Train”, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), Jamie N Commons, Skylar Grey, and Gallant created a new version of the music video.

There are multiple places to watch this video and depending on where you're viewing it, it will show you missing kids from your area. So while there aren't a ton of kids shown, it does help a lot by showing people kids that are missing in an area near them, which makes it more likely they could be spotted. I know the version on Twitter and their main site has the geolocation tagging to do that. I don't believe that's the case here on RUclips but it's still a positive thing they're doing. The original didn't feature that many kids either, try going back and watching it now. It's about the same amount.

I love it more than We Are The World. We Are The World is always seems superficial to me. Like a white savior thing to do. (This is just my opinion. I don't mean to belittle great effort and good intention and compassion behind that song). But this song, and March March from The Chicks, somehow much more touching for me.

As a kid I loved this song for the help they were trying to get those kids. As an adult I love this song because it reflects my depression so perfectly. Knowing Dave Pirner wrote this about his own depression just shows I'm not alone even though it feels like it. Great cover/remix too. I'd say hauntingly beautiful.

Ben Anderson you know that the point of the original song was to also raise awareness for the “runaway” kids that ran from to escape abuse. Also let’s face facts some of these kids are gone, we need to start focusing on preventing these horrible acts from happening instead of just mopping it up after the crap hit the fan.

I wish they would make another video like this but for song about human trafficking and maybe another one about drug addiction or suicide. So that way kids and teens get the message about going through those issues. Adults could also benefit from them. Bless all of The Runaways and may they be found and returned home safely.

Karasu tizuchi I think it gives off a hopeful vibe. I don’t think it needs to be a slow, sad song to get the point across. The original was fairly upbeat too. But it definitely has a great message, regardless.

You know what..... I don't agree with all the hate about this song. I Love the remix more than the original honestly...but you have a point about how upbeat this song is so yes on that!
But it does draw attention to the fact that four hundred thousand and children go missing in the us alone EACH yr
And awareness is a lot. I respect their attempt and I love that they used country and pop and Hip-Hop and Rock. I was going to turn it off in the beginning because I hate country. LOL but there's a genre in there for everybody I suppose. But u def have a point

I can't believe people are actually complaining about this song. meanwhile they're probably the same ones who worship ariana grande and halsey. this was was supposed to have a more mainstream sound to it and they did that effectively with the beats & harmonies. it attracts today's generation which is important because of the message of this video. they're raising awareness for these missing children and what they may have gone through or are going through. how are you going to complain about that? i think this is wonderful. if you're that worried about this video not doing enough, become an activist for the missing. there's a link in the description to help with that.

People are complaining about there not being enough children feat in the video and haven't done any research because if u had u would know a standard version is available to watch on RUclips, if it’s viewed on the “Runaway Train 25” website, geo-targeting technology changes the footage so that viewers receive information about children from their area who have gone missing......so with that being said they feature WAY MORE then u see here. But if u only watch this RUclips version, the standard version, this is all u will see.

I knew Kristopher Lewis (2:38). He's my God brother and I remeber my mom telling me he had ran away😔. There's was missing posters all over Dorchester where he had lived. We haven't heard any news of or from him since. He has 3 younger brothers then and his family has moved out of Boston. I haven't talked to my God brothers or their mom since 2014, 2015 or so.😓
Kris was an awesome kid from what I can remember. I want to thank Inside Edition because I would've never known this video was made🙇‍♀️ and Kris was in it! I still hope he's OK and he should be 20 or so now. 🙂

alright so a lot of people are commenting that the original song was better and while i’ve personally never heard it i think there was a reason they used a cover instead.
making it more upbeat and “pop”-y gets it stuck in your head (especially younger viewers, who typically enjoy this kind of music) this is important to get you coming back to the video & seeing their faces again.
it also appeals to younger people which is very important because a 16 y/o girl was literally found using this video- because her friend saw her and encouraged her to go home.
while the original may be better (i’ll admit i have not heard it) the main idea of this video is that it shows you missing children and it’s raising awareness to get them found. you don’t need to comment that the song is bad.

I’m glad an effort was made to do a remake but...it seems like the focus of this video highlights the artists and actors too much and not enough real missing kids (just 6 per vid but it is changed depending on location which is high tech). I like that this version shows the City State they’re from. Also the song itself is a little too cool and upbeat for the topic. And the visuals are weak and watered down compared to the original, which really made you freeze and stare and left you changed after watching it. I guess it’s the 90s realness and grit. But ultimately I hope it helps bring someone home safely. The original helped locate 21 out of 30+ kids shown in the video.

I really don't like the rendition, but the video is just as powerful as ever. Also, if you go to the actual site for the video and watch it there, it will show you kids missing from the area you're watching from. That's pretty awesome.

    • @Ogbod127
      @Ogbod127 3 года назад

Yes I think the original music and video is just as powerful today. Updating the pics would have worked imo. This version is missing the emotion and simplicity of the original music, but obviously it’s great that this heartbreaking issue is getting much-needed attention. Perhaps it’s a blessing that the new version is so poor - more people will talk about it and it’ll get more exposure?
