@@vezon9436 I actually heard the title track to this play once and I thought it was a Section.80-GKMC era Kendrick song that I had not heard, maybe some bonus track. Then I learned what it was.
im a huge Kendrick fan, i literally just discovered Logic like last week. i hear no Kendrick at all. not in the instrumental, not in his lyrics, not in his theme, not in his flow. i get that maybe theres a Kendrick influence, but for the most part Logic sounds pretty original to me.
I agree and disagree. I can see where he uses samples but I legit listened to both albums side by side the other day, and I couldn't tell. Kendrick and Logic are both unique and although Logic clearly has inspirations, UP was definitely his own shit. I didn't think of GKMC at all.
TheGusBus97 yeah i agree. Logic is original no doubt. even tho i hear Kendrick now i still think its Logics own shit. but what i mean is i can hear the inspiration a lot more now. its probably just a mind fuck cuz i didnt hear it at first, but since everybody is comparing Logic to Kendrick my mind hears Kendricks vibe now.
I'm Jensen Yes that was blatantly obvious though. He wasn't trying to rip it off, i'm pretty sure he sampled it and changed the beat up a bit. The song you are talking about is 'Metropolis', but because it was a sample, people are okay with it. Mainly it's the other songs where his general 'style' makes people think he sounds like Kendrick. Which I get and don't get. Nothing wrong with Metropolis though...even Kendrick has tons of samples in his albums.
What the hell?? Logic - Under Pressure 6/10 Mac Miller WMWTSO 6/10 J Cole Forest Hills Drive 6/10 Best this is just bad... These albums were awesome and lyrical amazing!
Top5DeadorAlive you sound dumb as fuck Mac is one of the most slept on artist OAT he makes reflective music, hype songs, depressive music. Exploring all aspects of a drug addicts mind, someone struggling with fame, depression, and all kinds of things. Go get context of his life at the time then listen and you’ll change your opinion.
Personally I didn't hear Kendrick or anybody else...and Kendrick is my favorite. I thought this was Album was at least an 8, and Logic sounded like Logic.
Thank you idk why people always gotta bring up another rapper when listening to someone else. I've noticed its way more with logic though even though I don't hear like any Kendrick in his stuff.
If you listen to Good Kid, m.A.A.d city, you’ll hear similar samples, particularly “Bitch Don’t kill my vibe” vs “Addiction” by Logic. Another similar sample is from “Sing About Me, I’m Thirsty” vs Metropolis. Some of Logic’s flow is very Kendrick as well, I don’t think one is better than the other, I like both. However Logic certainly is inspired by Kendrick
THANK YOU FOR WATCHING! I'M SORRY IF WE DISAGREE ON HOW "CLASSIC" THIS ALBUM IS. I JUST DON'T HEAR IT, HONESTLY. I HEAR A LOT OF POTENTIAL, THOUGH. NOT HATING ON LOGIC IN ANY WAY. I THINK HE'S A SOLID RAPPER, AND I SEE WHY YOU LIKE HIM. I'M JUST NOT GOING GAGA. THAT'S ALL.
It's not a "Classic" but it deserves more than a 6/10 (maybe a 7.5/10), but so did Acid Rap by Chance and Because The Internet by Gambino did have flaws but it deserved to be a bit higher. But I'm a Hip-Hop head and your more of a music nerd or all genres. So I guess we look at things different. I respect your opinion nevertheless.
diebyeguy perhaps you're just looking at it from an educational sort of way, but 5's are pretty successful, on this chart. Usually it's personal gripes with it, which, in all of those albums, that's exactly it. What's more important is making sure you're seeing the album entirely, without hype. Though he did a fine review for Because the Internet, I think DeadEndHipHop did a much better one, with no numbers to distract you.
i finally agree with you man,wow...Now don't get it twisted,i am a Logic fan,but i kinda think that sometimes he just sounds the same and luckily that evil ass flow, like on growing pains III,compensates his lyricism(rhyming more precisely).I honestly think people sayin that this one is an 8+ are on a different page.Anyway, didn't dissapoint me,pretty solid record and all that, fav tracks:growing pains III,soul food and under pressure.Next things i look forward to see are B4.DA.$$,Shady XV and Kendrick's new shit
This is the one classic in Logic’s discography. Songs like Soul Food, Nikki, Under Pressure, and Alright are fire. 8/10 Edit: In hindsight, I used the word classic too lightly but it’s still a good album
Classic? Yeah... no. Just because it's his only good album doesn't make it a classic. Ya'll sound like Drake fans putting Take Care on the same level as MBDTF lol.
@@johnrecardo6841 TITS was average, Everybody and YSIV were mediocre as hell, he spent 3/4 of the time ripping off his contemporaries and being a 'lyrical miracle spiritual individual'; and Supermarket and COADM were just unlistenable.
I completely disagree, this album was a strong 9/10 for me. I loved all of the beats and I thought the Intro was one of the best tracks because it is very emotional and gets me through the day honestly. His lyrical content is much different than most rappers, which I love. Even if he does go mainstream with it, like on Bounce and Never Enough it still does not sound like anything on mainstream radio, it still sounds fresh and different. Logic is perfect at mastering mainstream elements and combining them with a little extra lyricism and story-telling that is better than most artists. All of the beats were fantastic in my opinion and fit Logic's voice, delivery, and flow perfectly. And the fact that he can do regular time, double time, and even triple time rapping is impressive. He switches up different flows on songs (which is hardly done anymore in mainstream accessible hip-hop) and he is just nice, respectful, and relatable MC overall. He is amazing towards his fans and really makes an effort to support them and show them love and that gains my highest respects because you just don't see that anymore. Amazing album. Best hip-hop from this year in my opinion.
I also do not agree with your approach of comparing artists to other artists. It is not a good review tactic in my opinion. You take the art for what it is and you don't judge off other artists. Yes, Logic takes inspiration from Kendrick but I don't believe any of these tracks were even close to being a "GKMC throw away" or anything of the sort. I think that claim is very ignorant and an ill-informed one at that. Logic is his own person and wants his art looked at that way. I think we as reviewers owe him the due diligence to look at HIS art as HIS creation and not anyone else's.
I love Anthony's reviews even though I don't agree with him most of the time, but it's fucking annoying that thing that he does where he constantly compares artist with other artist, and even more annoying when he compares the album of an artist with the more old albums of that particular artist, it just gives the impression that his opinions are always biased and are not professional reviews, but yeah, it's his opinion after all...
the entire middle of your argument was talking about how good of a rapper he is, no one is denying that, but compared to his other projects, under pressure was not as good as a debut album should be
It's always interesting to hear different opinions on albums. Personally, I think this album is about a 9/10 and a legit contender for hip-hop album of the year.
SunCas Ras I liked pretty much everything about it - the production, the flows, the bars, the content, the story-telling, the honesty, the cohesiveness, etc. I don't want to type up an essay though because I already did my review for it lol
moonlemon09 It's all just music discussion to me, and I love that regardless of agreements or disagreements. I don't get angry or emotional about it. Everyone's ears like what they like!
Why ? Kendrick is more ethnic, I think they do have stylistic differences as well. People generally accuse Logic of being a fusion of his contemporaries while lacking personal touch on his own style, that is how the rhetoric goes.
I have mad respect for you Fantano, but I have to disagree with this review. Logic is simply trying to bring back that old school swag of hip hop. Nothing too clubby, just simple, down-to-earth intuitive bars. I'll admit there are a few tracks that sound similar to other artists' songs, but logic has taken inspiration from so many talented, diverse emcees (both new and old) and has attempted to craft his own sort of "new-school, old-style" persona - like the Frank Sinatra of rap music, hence his alter-ego. He's one of those guys who just reeks of class. But again, all my opinion. And as usual I respect yours, well done.
This album is very above average. The Kendrick comparisons are legit, but again he has his own lane. You also failed with the "why is there random robotic voices". It was by design from Tribe Midnight Marauders album. We gotta give this a push rather bashing. Logic is legit.
10pagolfer see if he did more small skits then there'd be EVEN MORE Kendrick comparisons here. Maybe that's why he didn't do it and kept the robotic voice blurbs as an extra
I don't understand how these people don't get the fact that the voices are a direct shout out to ATCQ. It's a shame, most of these people won't take Logic for what he is: One of the best MCs to come around in a long time. LOGIC IS THE TRUTH
Oh, I know. If compared to the entire spectrum of hip-hop discography, Under Pressure really isn't very groundbreaking. But compared at least to the albums released in the past year and their respective quality, I think the album more than easily holds its own, and to call it an album of the year contender would definitely not be an overstatement. Ultimately, it comes down to the fact that I just really like Logic. But I get you bro :D
Didnt kendrick lamar use the same sample that logic used on addiction? "bitch dont kill my vibe came out in 2012" addiction came out in 2011 on his young sintra mixtape . Gkmc is dope but im just saying people are complaing over logic stealing sampless...
Thats what im saying and people act like logic copying gkmc is bad it isnt bad thats what makes a classic if gkmc is having that much influnece on artist to sample from k dot that isnt bad thats what a classic is all about .
And you think sing about me was kendricks beat he sampled that beat too ?. So im saying people shouldnt be complaing about logic using kendricks beat because kdot sampled the same beat as logic did
And if you read my commment right i said didnt kendrick sample the same song as logic did on bitch dont kill my vibe that logic had on additction i never said it was logics sonng but it isnt kendrickss either You clearly didnt read my comment at all
I think the line where logic says "I'm from Maryland where they shoot you in the dark of the knight like Christopher Nolan" was clever as fuck. I don't really agree with 6/10 review because I personally enjoyed this album so much I would almost give it a 10, and I also saw a comment that said fantano has some sort of hate for logic and I kinda of agree to some extent, but anyways, he is entitled to his own opinion. Btw soul food is fucking amazing it's my favorite song off the album
Tuan Le lol I prolly should’ve made that clear. Fantano, he’s a little too biased, if he has a review channel it should be based on the album in a contextual concept based off of what the album wants to be and other things. This album, though I don’t play it often, is easily an 8. It has an extremely unique feeling, Fantano is always looking for a way to compare to Kendrick and that impairs his ability to review the music. Just my take.
I agree that this album sounds like it's done by a fan of hip-hop, but i LIKE that. UP DOESNT have a competitive vibe, but that's why it can be FELT by fans. It doesnt feel like he has to make it known he's the greatest like every rapper out there does, it feels like he's using hip-hop as an artistic outlet which makes it feel real. I disagree with the idea that Logic does it because it's a hit genre, and would argue that he's doing it out of love for hip-hop. Also, i agree the little additions of facts were unnecessary, but i found it pretty interesting.
Should have used “if I sell a brick I can buy a house if they find they key might lock me up” or “last verse I got to make it count won’t speak on my bank account so many comas I would have to pause and I can’t afford to just waste the bars”
Logic's album is truly amazing, from the lyrics to the intricate beats and use of musical instruments. I feel that in comparison to other rap artists and especially in rap music today, "garage beats" or just basic hard dumb machine beats are extremely prevalent. I love how Logic strays away from these norms and established unique tracks that adhere to his musical ability as well. Now, I would not call my self a hip hop head, to be honest I know very little about this type of music, how ever I am very knowledgable about music and have come to appreciate many different genres, rap music being one. The first time I listened to Logic's album, my brother showed it to me and I was fascinated. The way his flow seamlessly glided over the tracks left me mesmerized. Since then I have listened to the album many times and have listened to many interviews by him. I feel that through "Under Pressure" he takes listeners on an emotional roller coaster of his past. His songs are both lyrically and visually appealing, while listening to them made me feel as though I was a fly on the wall to his life - growing up in section 8 housing where violence and narcotics were more than prevalent. I give this album a 10/10 because of how advanced and technical it is. How it tells a story and means something so real and so relatable to many people around the world. I feel as the young man Logic is, he is going to go no where but up and I can't wait to follow that journey.
Yes but inconsistent opinions which show inherent biases towards certain rappers is a fucking joke. The constant contradictions and general hypocrisy of Anthony pisses me off.
I was talking about Anthony in general, so I don't get the whole, "he didn't like Logic's album therefore I hate him", reused argument. I don't give a fuck if he likes Logic's album or not, but he needs to at least be consistent with the ratings he gives to albums, otherwise he loses credit as a critic. I'm sure you agree with me on some point right? Have you seen a rating and gone, "I disagree with that", of course you have. There's a reason he gave Q a low score and Yachty a high one, bias plain and simple. The majority agreed it should be the other way around, that's how you know if there's bias or not.
Logics new full length project mixtape album EP came out "Half Black Gang" with tracks like "lightskinned dad ft Fat Joe" and "I could say the n word if I felt like it ft Slim Jesus"
In My Opinion: Under Pressure: Decent To Strong 10/10 Fav Tracks: Intro, Soul Food, I'm Gone, Gang Related, Buried Alive, Bounce, Growing Pains 3, Never Enough, Metropolis, Nikki, Under Pressure, Til The End My introduction to logic, one of my favourite release, he was hungrier back then, it showed that he cared, his lyrical abilities have gotten better.
I think a lot of people noticed that. Also the sax at the end of growing pains 3 sounds like the same sax on kendrick lamars interlude. So far it seems like I'm the only one who noticed that. I haven't seen anyone other than me notice it.
KEPL3R 21b So? he's on par with other reviewers. PLus he doesnt listen to hiphop only. Maybe the influence he got from other music affects his OPINION.
I love this album, and don’t agree with his rating, but Im not gonna hate about it since it’s his opinion But then I saw he put metropolis as one of the worst songs of the album, and then he became wrong
yeah, a common sample, which is why it reminds you of sing about me. it's ok for rappers to sample work for 20-30 years ago but once someone gets inspiration from a recent piece of work everyone crucifies him....i dont understand.
When Logic uses the robot voices between tracks it's pointless even though he's referencing A Tribe Called Quest's use of robot voices on Midnight Marauders which you can guarantee Anthony wouldn't dare call "pointless"
idkman That's not what I'm saying. I'm saying that I doubt Anthony would call Tribe's use of the voices pointless, so the fact that he labels them as pointless when Logic does seems like a jab
Willets Oh, sry for misunderstanding then. Fair enough point in that case. But in Tribe's case they really tied in well with the album's aesthetic, were related to the songs following or preceding them and functioned as a tour guide for the album that was introduced in the first track. No idea how Logic uses them because I never listened to the album but apparently their function was not that clear aside from the MM reference, at least for Anthony.
idkman I'd say that the way Logic uses them is actually relevant to the album as a whole, since the album tells the tale of his background and the things that made him who he is to this day, eg. the pressures of the industry, his troubled background and even his nicotine addiction. He's been quoted numerous times saying that it was groups such as Tribe and Wu Tang etc. are the reason he got into hip-hop in the first place, so I'd have to disagree with Anthony on that one and say it fits well if you look at the album from that perspective
I’ve never understood how people can say logic tries to sound like Kendrick. They are both in my top 3 favorite of all time and I’ve never heard one logic song that makes me think it sounds like Kendrick.
I have the same thoughts as you right down to the song comparisons lol. When Metropolis started I thought I was hearing sing about me I'm dying of thirst.
More true for the second half on Under Pressure. Uses those same drums from Sing About Me and he raps in different perspectives just like in Sing About Me.
They come from the same lifestyle. They grew up dirt broke and rap was their only way out of the drugs and gang violence. Of course their flow could possibly be similar.
The track Under Pressure remains a favorite of mint till this day. It was the first song I heard by logic. Seeing Ultra 85 come out is like seeing him realize the potential I saw on that track. Good on him.
Jonah Davis funniest thing is his most disliked opinions are hip-hop ones(2014fhd, life is good, damn, under pressure, mbdtf and few others). hip hop stans are the most buthurt/salty ones
@@mahtabgill5404 probably. And I'm gonna be sad. UP is my 2nd favourite Logic album after T.I.T.S. and I still would've given it at least an 8. I really hope No Pressure is finale Logic is making it out to be. On the art it looks like Thalia is killing him or either saving him so it's the end of the story... For now
4:46 that “horrible stock children cheering sound” on the end of the track is a shoutout to Mac Miller, Mac had the same sound on his first album K.I.D.S, and is the one that gave logic the inspiration to make his Young Sinatra mixtape. So much for being “the internets busiest music nerd”
I love how people are using some fucking awful lines to defend Logic... The lines beingquoted in the comments are like some shit an angsty 14 year old would write on tumblr
I just don't understand why everyone's mad that it's got similar qualities to GKMC. If GKMC was released 10 years ago it would be considered much better, but Logic has no problem with taking inspiration from recent work and even admitted it was similar to GKMC. But IMO an album similar to but not a copy of a great album is also great and thats the case for Under Pressure for me.
Exactly. When are people going to get that nothing's original. Every artists making "new" music now is building off of what other artists, and they themselves, have done. Nas said it, what, like 20 years ago now? And all these "hip-hop heads" still don't get it. Smh.
When Logic uses "Nikki" as a metaphor for nicotine its "eugh" and underwhelming, but when Kendrick uses "Lucy" as a metaphor for Lucifer its genius? Hm. Also, imagine if this had come out after TPAB, everyone would be saying Logic was copying Kendrick with the whole Nikki/Lucy comparison. They're both incredible artists in their own right, no need to compare, Kendrick has his strengths over Logic, but that's not to discredit Logic in the slightest. K Dot dick riders can stop hating.
Lol you really can’t understand why using Nicki as a metaphor for nicotine is significantly more corny and less impactful than using Lucy to represent Lucifer which in and of itself is a representation for the temptations of greed, money, power etc? You can’t see how one of those things is universally relatable and the other one is about a dude talking about cigarette addiction?
@@davidm9026 alright so lemme get this straight... using a metaphor to talk about a cigarette addiction, a very REAL thing that kills thousands a day is corny? nicotine addiction is by itself something which to defeat you have to also fight temptation. it's arguable which metaphor is stronger but saying one is significantly cornier and less impactful than the other is just wrong bruv
He don't . I love songs that have deep meaning but for real this guy most of his vids is mostly no liking any of the artists and my favorite from logic is walk on by
Under Pressure: 8.5/10 Favorites:Intro, I'm Gone, Gang Related, Buried Alive,Bounce, Growing Pains 3, Never Enough, Nikki, Under Pressure, TIL THE END, TIL THE END, Now
I haven't bought a cd since good kid maad city but i had to buy this..... i really enjoyed the tape. And metropolis is one of my favorite tracks on here it's a cool relaxing song. Also if anything metroplois sounds like something off good kid. Good review though but i personally give it a Decent 8 prob 9.
IN THE CLASSIC MOVIE, RAY, DURING THE BEGINNING OF THE FILM, HE IS IN THE STUDIO ATTEMPTING TO SOUND LIKE THE GREATS THAT CAME BEFORE HIM. HIS JEWISH HANDLERS AT THE TIME ASSISTED HIM IN UNDERSTANDING THAT HE NEEDED TO FIND HIS OWN VOICE. THIS IS WERE LOGIC IS, HE STILL IS FINDING HIS OWN VOICE. J COLE WAS THERE FOR A VERY LONG TIME BEFORE HIS LAST ALBUM. HIS NEW SONG "APPARENTLY", IS HIS COMING OUT TRACK.
As a listener of logic since 2012 this album is amazing. Nikki was a genius song. This album will be looked back on in another 5 years and a lot of people will view it as a classic. 9/10 from me.
VersaceCanOpener everyone has an opinion, if u dont like logic, i respect ur opinion. i just dislike how some logic fans are going out of their way to go against everyones opinion.
"this is poppin, so ima do this" that is the whole, the definition of logic, he doesn't give a fuck about anyone or what they say and he's gonna do what he does best and had the most fun doing, this in itself makes me enjoy his records a lot, I just wanted to give my input
Funny how looking back on this it's still his best album, largely because his sound is about the same as it was on later projects. Hopefully Logic takes his time on his next project because he definitely has a great project in him.
+Yesitdid I feel like he'll really get back to that on this project, he said he's kinda done with the "this is where I'm from" rap. so hopefully it still slaps but I'm a fan either way.
The only time I heard something even remotely similar to Kendrick was the instrumental of Metropolis, and I'm not a big fan of Till The End but everything else is great, what are you talking about? To Pimp A Butterfly has jazzy saxophone all throughout but that doesn't mean Kendrick copied the sax in Metropolis. Remember, two similar things can exist without being copies of each other, and I think your philosophy was "Kendrick and Logic are both conscious rappers rapping about their issues with wordplay and calm instrumentals? Logic must be ripping Kenny off!" Though I agree that he turned into somewhat of an fast Eminem copycat later on, Under Pressure is not that, and in most, if not all songs I can say Logic brings a style of his own.
By that logic (no pun intended), Kendrick ripped Logic off, because Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe sounds exactly like Addiction by Logic, which came out before. See? That sounds stupid. They just used the same sample and same general ideas.
chickenboxer10 nah trust me he’s gonna give it a solid to strong 7. I prefer under pressure but based on his criticisms of logic I feel like that’s what he’s gonna give it
So this album is EXTREMELY similar to GKMC if people really don't believe so. The beat of "Metropolis" is practically the same as "Sing About Me, Dying of Thirst" and the song Under Pressure uses the same drum pattern from it. In "Under Pressure," Logic even raps in the perspective of different family members as Kendrick did for his characters from the brother of the guy who died and the prostitute's sister in Sing About Me. The robot lady is also some sort of homage to A Tribe Called Quest's "Midnight Marauders" album as it does the same. Logic seems to be influenced by all these rappers, but like Anthony said, I want him to be more original. I think he is finding his voice and will be a great rapper in the future, but he just needs to lay off of the influences a bit. Everyone has influences, but you are supposed to use them to shape your own style. I mean, Kendrick was clearly influenced by Jay-Z and Andre 3000, but he used their influence to incorporate his own narrative and lyrical technique. Logic is a great technical rapper but he will learn and I hope he does soon.
Definitely agree, when I heard the song Under Pressure. It made me think of "Sing About Me/Dying of Thirst" You got the first few minutes being the song itself, then the tempo and beat changes in "Under Pressure". Also, the next song after it is "Till the End". The beat sounds uplifting, and just like the song "Real" in GKMC, it sounds uplifting.
I completely agree about the similarity in beat. It sounds like the same beat. I was the first one out of my family and friends and anyone i knew to catch that. However, I still love this album.
***** But hes trying to SOUND like Kendrick too much! thats the problem he was even biting kendrick flows in muti songs so when he rapped in that perspective it reminds you of kendrick rite away i ask my friend who do he sound like & he never heard of Logic before & he said WTF Kendrick LMAOOO i died laughing bro its true & logic even admits Kendrick is a influence on him the reason be is because he does not have his voice yet hes not comfortable in his own skin yet he needs to build his fanebase up & when that happen you will start to hear Logic & less kendrick, Kendrick went through the same thing he was trying to sound like Lil wayne for the longest & when he started really popping he change his style & what not & made his own he grew confidenets his tyle could hold up every rapper goes through this faze hell i rap & i sometimes tend to rap like Drake & Joey badass & King los thats who i been seeing what i been spitting like lately i just like using that style & i think logic feels the same way. By the way commenting through somebody You tube channel
7 years later, I gotta say this is definitely still a really great project. Im hoping to see a return to this form with Vinyl Days and whatever remaining projects Logic has.
Oh my goodness, in the first 25 seconds of the video, Anthony uses Slayer to make me want to do evil things, and then says SLANGthony CAINEtano to subliminally encourage me to sell drugs. You've gone to far this time Anthony. Or not far enough? You decide.
Fantano sounds like he's TRYING to hate this album. This is an 8 minimum and a high 9 in my opinion. Best album of 2014 but that's also a matter of opinion. He's just ignoring or glossing over so many aspects that make this great and highlighting minute flaws that nobody else seems to care about. On this review I'm feeling a decent to strong 2
If any of y’all are confused/don’t get the Kendrick Lamar comparisons, listen to under pressure (the the 2nd part of the song) and then SAMIDOT from GKMC. I noticed it the second I listened to SAMIDOT.
You know why it kinda sounds like good kid maad city it's because the producer from GKMC worked on logics album as we'll and the intro it doesent feel fake because it actually happen
It's painful to admit, but I have to completely agree with your review. I'm glad you brought up the blatant Kendrick Lamar similarity; that totally took me out of the moment too. Logic does seem to be improving though, so good for him
Would've maybe agreed when I first heard it, but over time this has become one of my all-time favorite albums. It has grown on me an insane amount and I swear it gets better every time I listen to it. Only song that I'm still not to big about is Gang Related, not really a fan of the beat. Thanks for reviewing.
hey, a 6 is pretty good. This is just Logic's first album, and last year, he gave Childish Gambino's album a 5/10. While Logic does need to improve, I think that this album is very good and definitely worthy of a 6 :)
I'm a big Logic fan and I have been for nearly 4 years now. I've been following him since the first Young Sinatra tape and I've studied every single project of his to drop since. I really enjoyed Under Pressure. But if I'm being honest, it's luster wore off on me more and more every time I listened to it. I fucked with it hardcore the first week or two it was out, but I honestly got a little tired of it already before it was even out for a whole month. At first listen, I probably would've given the album a 9/10. Now, I'd give it a 7.5/10. In comparison to his mixtapes (all of which I loved), he really created a good sound on Under Pressure. However, he left his bars back on his tapes. He used to have bars that would blow my mind, especially on Young Sinatra. As you said, he did have some solid bars on UP. But, most of them were subpar in my opinion. As for the Kendrick and Drake influence that everyone is critiquing him for, I didn't start noticing the influence until a few good listen-through's in. There was definitely a Kendrick influence on this album and I'll admit it. But, I enjoyed it. Kendrick and Logic are two of my favorite rappers and I think it's interesting to see rappers take notes of their peers. Logic did go overboard with the Kendrick influence in this album, but I wouldn't say he totally bit Kendrick's sound or that he's a knockoff Kendrick. Logic is still learning the ropes and still creating his own sound. It's his freshman album. Very few rappers these days actually create their own sound from the ground up. Everyone has to start somewhere, and sometimes all you have is just influences. However, it really irks me that you have to compare nearly EVERY rap album you review to GKMC or TPAB or Kendrick in general. You act as if GKMC is the only rap album ever made and it's the main standard of greatness. It's an amazing album, one of my personal favorites too, but I don't compare it to any others. I love Kendrick, but you need to get his dick out of your mouth and realize that not every album will be as great as GKMC or TPAB, and not every album has to be.
It is because his music is so personal and you can feel the emotion in the lyrics is why I and many people love him. If you watch his interviews he explains that he could've went many different ways with this album, but this was how he wanted to introduce himself to the world.

Logics best album IMO. Incredible true story is good too. After that it just gets worse and worse.
im a huge Kendrick fan, i literally just discovered Logic like last week. i hear no Kendrick at all. not in the instrumental, not in his lyrics, not in his theme, not in his flow. i get that maybe theres a Kendrick influence, but for the most part Logic sounds pretty original to me.
ight, at first when i listened to it i didnt think Kendrick, but now that yall mention Kendrick i can hear it in Logics songs.
Lol one of his songs have "Sing about me" type of intro
I'm Jensen Yes that was blatantly obvious though. He wasn't trying to rip it off, i'm pretty sure he sampled it and changed the beat up a bit. The song you are talking about is 'Metropolis', but because it was a sample, people are okay with it. Mainly it's the other songs where his general 'style' makes people think he sounds like Kendrick. Which I get and don't get.
Nothing wrong with Metropolis though...even Kendrick has tons of samples in his albums.
Remember when we said Logic sounded original and we loved his projects? What a time to be alive...

+Oshiria Addiction actually came out before Bitch, Don't Kill My Vibe.
Oshiria tell me a song where logic sounds like Kendrick please.
Venenoso I’d probably have to say some lines from Blacker the Berry by Kendrick share a similar style to Logic

TITS and welcome to forever are both classics as well
Classic? Yeah... no. Just because it's his only good album doesn't make it a classic. Ya'll sound like Drake fans putting Take Care on the same level as MBDTF lol.
Yeah no, it’s a great album but it ain’t no classic
Wilbert S. Cubero it’s not his only good album
Justin Greene Yes this "Logic Loves Everyone" train is about to derail.
I love Anthony's reviews even though I don't agree with him most of the time, but it's fucking annoying that thing that he does where he constantly compares artist with other artist, and even more annoying when he compares the album of an artist with the more old albums of that particular artist, it just gives the impression that his opinions are always biased and are not professional reviews, but yeah, it's his opinion after all...
the entire middle of your argument was talking about how good of a rapper he is, no one is denying that, but compared to his other projects, under pressure was not as good as a debut album should be
JoVaughnScott I think this was his best project by far
It's always interesting to hear different opinions on albums. Personally, I think this album is about a 9/10 and a legit contender for hip-hop album of the year.
Why such a high rating?
SunCas Ras I liked pretty much everything about it - the production, the flows, the bars, the content, the story-telling, the honesty, the cohesiveness, etc. I don't want to type up an essay though because I already did my review for it lol
Wow, a sensible reaction to someone who disagrees with you? It's not every day you see that in these comment sections.
moonlemon09 It's all just music discussion to me, and I love that regardless of agreements or disagreements. I don't get angry or emotional about it. Everyone's ears like what they like!

I can respect your opinion of not being the biggest fan of his music but you need to stop comparing him to Kendrick so much…
His praise of Kendrick Lamar is 100% justifiable. You're just mad. Truth does that.
Why wouldnt he compare them?
LIZARD Δ EXACTLY! Everybody is afraid of answering this question! :o
Everybody scared to look in the mirror when I'm around - K dot
lolyermad not mad at all. I just don't hear the similarity between them. Don't get me wrong Kendrick is a goat but I still prefer Logic

I agree with him the robotic voices at the end of the songs are just pointless information

The internet: doesn't know how to take a fucking opinion
ikr u cant say i have a bad opinion its my opinion lol
alright here's the thing, people can't deal with others opinions because they have THE RIGHT TOO. that's a part of a good democracy.
u do realize that anyone can criticize his opinion right? just cuz it is his opinion doesn't mean that no one can talk or comment over it.

When Logic uses the robot voices between tracks it's pointless even though he's referencing A Tribe Called Quest's use of robot voices on Midnight Marauders which you can guarantee Anthony wouldn't dare call "pointless"
So you're saying Anthony would think that a reference in itself can't be pointless as long as it pays homage to old school hip hop? SURE
idkman That's not what I'm saying.
It's pointless for Logic because he's just copying Tribe. And they don't mean anything either. It just seems shoehorned in.
I’ve never understood how people can say logic tries to sound like Kendrick. They are both in my top 3 favorite of all time and I’ve never heard one logic song that makes me think it sounds like Kendrick.

Preach the truth homie
Kendrick Lamar sampled it ass well
Exactly. When are people going to get that nothing's original. Every artists making "new" music now is building off of what other artists, and they themselves, have done. Nas said it, what, like 20 years ago now? And all these "hip-hop heads" still don't get it. Smh.
It’s all about to come full circle. Will logic ultimately redeem himself or put out another 5/10? I guess we’ll see
Hehehe
i still dont know how he gave this a 6
6 for Under Pressure is a joke... I know he isn't the most gifted rapper, but this album is a work of art.
8/10 at the very least
The best of the classic raining blood riff that i ever heard
@@davidm9026 you have no idea how hard it is to fight nicotine addiction, it ultimately kills thousands of people
@@davidm9026 lol imagine replying to a 3 year old comment 😂😂
Deklizer I don’t check dates on comments like you, nerd
@@davidm9026 alright so lemme get this straight... using a metaphor to talk about a cigarette addiction, a very REAL thing that kills thousands a day is corny? nicotine addiction is by itself something which to defeat you have to also fight temptation. it's arguable which metaphor is stronger but saying one is significantly cornier and less impactful than the other is just wrong bruv
Anthony is that kid that screams "slayer!" at random gigs.
>found this review out of nowhere
>saw yellow flannel
>"Did fantano really give logic an 8/10 at one point?"

>6/10

You only like Kenderick Lamar bro... Metropolis is a deep song about his travels listen to the words bro
"You only like Kenderick Lamar bro"
have you seen his positive reviews on hip hop albums
He don't . I love songs that have deep meaning but for real this guy most of his vids is mostly no liking any of the artists and my favorite from logic is walk on by
It think I have heard metropolis I'ma check it out
Under Pressure: 8.5/10
Favorites:Intro, I'm Gone, Gang Related, Buried Alive,Bounce, Growing Pains 3, Never Enough, Nikki, Under Pressure, TIL THE END, TIL THE END, Now
I haven't bought a cd since good kid maad city but i had to buy this..... i really enjoyed the tape. And metropolis is one of my favorite tracks on here it's a cool relaxing song. Also if anything metroplois sounds like something off good kid. Good review though but i personally give it a Decent 8 prob 9.
TopShottas94 metropolis samples sing about me
@@thwompu3206 theyre both samples, but logic's twist on the beat beats kendrick's
U were right

Lol Logic fans are guaranteed teenagers who just started listening to hip hop.
VersaceCanOpener Man what the hell are you sore about?
Dalton Bacus nothing, why?
VersaceCanOpener everyone has an opinion, if u dont like logic, i respect ur opinion. i just dislike how some logic fans are going out of their way to go against everyones opinion.
Remember when logic wasn’t retiring man what a time to be alive
what a time to be alive, another yellow flannel on logic
"this is poppin, so ima do this" that is the whole, the definition of logic, he doesn't give a fuck about anyone or what they say and he's gonna do what he does best and had the most fun doing, this in itself makes me enjoy his records a lot, I just wanted to give my input
I actually agree totally
Funny how looking back on this it's still his best album, largely because his sound is about the same as it was on later projects. Hopefully Logic takes his time on his next project because he definitely has a great project in him.
Are you going to review "The Incredible True Story" when it comes out?
cant wait for it to come out
I'm beyond hyped. Been playing all of his old stuff on loop recently haha
Mee to. I hope it comes out early this fall
+Axel Paredes yeah fr I don't feel like waiting lol
Logic must be ripping Kenny off!"
Though I agree that he turned into somewhat of an fast Eminem copycat later on, Under Pressure is not that, and in most, if not all songs I can say Logic brings a style of his own.
By that logic (no pun intended), Kendrick ripped Logic off, because Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe sounds exactly like Addiction by Logic, which came out before.
See? That sounds stupid. They just used the same sample and same general ideas.
@@eduardozepol2000you and the original commenter make great points. Well said
Everyone is so focused on the score... I don't know how nobody caught the best Slayer cover of all time!
Where is the RTJ2 review, anthony?
are you stupid? it leaked only hours ago.
Shit came out today man chill
he's gonna give no pressure a light 7

You gotta redux this review. It has aged well. And it’s raw af
I totally agree!
Ha i thoughht that aswell!
This is my favorite album ever. 10/10
Same
under pressure is my favorite hip-hop album ever
Logic does seem to be improving though, so good for him
you think hes improving? I feel he peaked with his first Young Sinatra tape.
@@AFunkyDiabetic this aged like wine
Would've maybe agreed when I first heard it, but over time this has become one of my all-time favorite albums. It has grown on me an insane amount and I swear it gets better every time I listen to it. Only song that I'm still not to big about is Gang Related, not really a fan of the beat. Thanks for reviewing.
In Melon’s Opinion
Under Pressure: 6/10
No Pressure: 7/10
hey, a 6 is pretty good. This is just Logic's first album, and last year, he gave Childish Gambino's album a 5/10. While Logic does need to improve, I think that this album is very good and definitely worthy of a 6 :)
fuck yourself
IntuitiveMindsMusic killem with kindness ;)
Deserves a 7 or 8.
I totally agree that the new childish gambino album gets a 5 it really isn't that good.
I love Kendrick, but you need to get his dick out of your mouth and realize that not every album will be as great as GKMC or TPAB, and not every album has to be.
your going to review my mixtape one day
I see u!
Love your music man been listening for months know
Anyone here after no pressure review ?
We are all coming together again
It is because his music is so personal and you can feel the emotion in the lyrics is why I and many people love him. If you watch his interviews he explains that he could've went many different ways with this album, but this was how he wanted to introduce himself to the world.
