i don’t think he really knew the song, the words are timed on karoaoke. saying this bc i don’t think he planned to kill the family and take the house at this time, his obsession was still to get closer to felix.
There's a case that can be made for this, sure. You could even say he doesn't sing the song "perfectly" because he is not a very good singer. I don't think most people are able to pick up on melodies that easily the first time they hear a song (even with the words) but I could be wrong. Also, the foreshadowing I was trying to provide evidence for isn't that Oliver kills the family in the end, but that he is a pathological liar that lies about the smallest things (for example, actually knowing a song but saying he doesn't) to make himself seem more impressive and special.

I think he’s heard the song before but doesn’t really know it well, in which case one might describe oneself as not knowing it. He remembers the melody of the chorus but not really the verses, the way a lot of us do with songs we don’t know well, and that’s why he butchers the part before the melody kicks in.
