I've been using this camera for several years. I was planning to upgrade camera but after watching this video I decided to stay with it a little bit longer. Thank you for making me appreciate this Canon again.
Hey! I just purchased this camera for about ~£90 alongside a decently cheap lens, for a total of ~£130. I am still waiting for it to ship to me, but honestly, I'm extremely excited for it. I love the fact that you can zoom in super far with real lenses, instead of the kinda fake zoom in phone lenses. My phone when zoomed in ~2x creates a super odd hexagon effect to the images, and I hate it. I can't wait to take pictures and maybe record some skateboarding footage with this camera. Thanks for this video, it makes me feel even better about my purchase! lol :)
Thanks David for your very detailed review. You really give me more confident of the machine and now I will focus on how to improve my skills and aesthetic. I just bought my 550d wiith EF-S 10-22mm lens for around 200 USD. Now I will try my best to do some landscape and portrait photography with it!
Congrats on getting the camera setup! I am sure that you’ll be able to create some really nice results with it. Maybe adding the 50mm 1.8 will definitely help your out a lot with portraits. :-) Thank you very much for watching and also for the compliment, it really means a lot! I am also glad that it was helpful as well. I wish you a great time and have fun shooting! :-)
Thanks david just bought my 550D yesterday here in macau. .and its quite nice with the kit lense. .and you help me as a begginer with your reviews. .thanks 📷
Congratulations on getting the camera, I am sure you will produce some nice results with it! :-) It is still a nice camera that still produces great images. It can accepts practically any great lenses from Canon. I do recommend the ef 50mm 1.8, ef-s 24mmm 2.8, ef 40mm 2.8 stm and the ef-s 10-18mm stm to go with the camera! They are great affordable lenses that delivers great results as well. :-) Thank you very much for watching and also for sharing your story, very much appreciated it. :-) I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
Sorry about saying "really" many times, it's a bad habit I know but I am trying to improve so thank you for pointing it out. Also, congratulations for getting the camera, I am sure you will be able to produce great results with it. :-) Thank you very much for watching, I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
I have a full frame Canon camera but often take my old 350d (rebel xt) with me for travels due to its size, weight and price for today. If lost or damaged I wouldn't cry so much when I got my other new expensive camera drowned in a lake. I love the results I have from my 350d but when I bought 550d I was impressed. It's like a hurricane compared to my old camera. Much faster and more sensitive camera not talking about the big and bright screen.
my parents bought this camera when new and used it for ages but then the iPhone became even higher in quality and had such a small form factor that it was simply more convenient to use phones. But even after using my 13 pro camera for a year, there is something I miss about the super sharp focus and background blur that smartphones cannot recreate due to their small camera sizes, even with the use of LiDAR and software enhancements. Definitely going to be using this camera a lot more again even though its over 10 years old now.
Yeah, I will not deny how powerful smartphone cameras has come but there are still certain physical limitations that bigger sensor cameras still can do that smaller cameras (especially in the smartphones) can’t. Furthermore, this camera will also allow you to experiment in different looks as well as tryout different perspectives. I am sure you’ll be able to produce great results with it. Thank you very much for watching and also for sharing your experience, really means a lot. I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
I would not say any cellphone has better color accuracy than DSLR.. also the organic look. Smartphones sharpnes is fake , looks bad. The only thing I dislike about this reflex camera is the moire issue
Congrats on the camera, I’m sure you’ll produce great results with it! :-) Thanks for watching and also for sharing your story, very much appreciated it. I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
I bought one in 2019 and used it on a regular basis ever since. But it is a really old camera, and there's a bunch of stuff that make it obsolete in 2023 in my opinion : struggles really bad in low light conditions, shaky autofocus when conditions are not perfect and the pictures are not as sharp and crisp as they used to be. Now this is obviously due to the age of it and is still a great camera. Just bought a 77d, time to put my 550d in the drawer and excited to step up my photography game, but this camera will always be the one that introduced me to photography and allowed me to test a lot of stuff before getting something a bit more serious.
Yeah, I do agree that there are a lot of limitations with this camera and when compare it to other offerings, this might not really be a compelling camera to consider. That said, considering the price point and also the fact that it still takes good pictures and will allow new photographers to learn about photography, it is still a good enough camera in my opinion. Sure, it might be a serious camera but when work with it properly, it still can deliver some serious images as well (of course, with a bit of extra patient and effort into it especially when compared to some of the newer options out there). But yeah, thank you so much for watching as well as for sharing your opinion, very much appreciated it. I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
I have been using this camera since 2010 and I really love it. My only issue is that the auto white balance is usually too white, so using the basic modes (which defaults to AWB and you cannot change the setting) can sometimes be problematic.
Yeah, the auto white balance is still a bit off from time to time with this camera which can be a little bit annoying at times. But I guess shooting in RAW might be nice because you will always be able to adjust the white balance later (sure, it's an extra step but I think manually adjust your white balance later in post might make the results even nicer at times). But otherwise, this camera still deliver good results in my opinion. :-) Thank you very much for watching and for sharing your story, very much appreciated it. I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
I am glad to hear that you found a new life in your camera. :-) It is still a good camera that still can deliver good results when used properly. Sure, it might be a new camera that has more feature, megapixels, etc. But it still offers all the core features for enjoying photography. I thank you very much for watching and also for sharing you story, really appreciated it. I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
Hi, nice video thanks! How do you think the 550d compares to the later 18mp Canons; 600d, 650d & 700d? Other than a flippy screen & quicker FPS is the actual IQ any better at all? Many thanks!
I had a lense for my Lumix G7 I never used, I actually just traded it for a Canon 550D and a Sigma 70-300 macro lens. I'm used to my Lumix for what I have to do, but I like to have options and I have a feeling I'll have a lot of fun ❤
Very nice review, thank you. I own one myself for some years and about 3 years ago it was reasonable. As to photography is concerned the result are solid. I only shoot on RAW using a 64 GB chip and that allows about 2000 pics. One assesory that I do like is the remote control battery pack from MEIKE (great for doing youtube vids) . I have done marriges shooting up to 1000 pics with one set of batteries. Using Canon lenses, which I do up till now, delivers very good pics. I combined it with a Metz 45 cl4 and the result were stunning. I own an old 300 mm USM tele lens with no immage stabilizer (very old) in this combination. 300 mm portrait shots free hand turned out extremely well even though this package becomes rather heavy (or maybe because of it). Someting that I missed in your vid was using AI focus. When not focussing manually, which I do rather often (depthcontrol, I use tripods rather frequently), I have that option turned on all the time and it works very well. I am a fan of low ASA and this is where 550D rearly delivers. Another tip is using a polarisng filter for architcture (Cokin P system). Combined with slight underexposure delivers stunning pics. Great pics from Hannover Germany, I live in Hildesheim. Overall a very good camera. Times will come when I will have to upgrade but it will definitively remain where it is, with me.
Wow, thank you very much for putting the effort into sharing you story and experience! Very much appreciated it. :-) You had quite a setup there and I definitely agree and relate with a lot of of your experiences as well. You're right, the results from this camera are still solid especially considering it's age and price combined with what you can make out of the camera and it's files. Thank you very much again for sharing your story and experiences as well as for watching! My parents live in Hannover, so I visit there often. I should someday go to Hildesheim and explore a bit as well. :-) I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
hi! im thinking of buying this as my 1st dslr, for I'm only using smart phones. would you recommend this for video recording, and like for event photo/video shoots? thank you.
Thank you for the very detailed review of the camera. Just bought it for around 89 Euro (body and the kit lenses), hope I will have some nice experience with it. Im thinking of getting the Canon lens ef 50mm f1.8 II for around 36 Euro, do you think this is a good lense with a good price?
Congratulations on getting the camera, I am sure you'll produce great results with it! Regarding your question, I do think that it's a good price point for the 50mm 1.8 ii if you still can find it. It would actually be a great lens to pair up with this camera too since it really allows a lot of light into the sensor thus being able to take better pictures in lowlight and also able to take pictures with nicer blurry backgrounds. Thank you for watching, I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
Hey David great video. I managed to get 1 of these for quite cheap. Would the Eos 550d be better than my Samsung galaxy S10 plus camera in your opinion. Also would u say the Eos 550d is better than 2022 smartphone cameras?
I would say that it really depends on what you do and your expectations. For example, the Samsung galaxy S10 and also any modern flagship smartphones will be better at delivering computational photography results as well as produces results that looks better straight out of the camera due to computational photography. That said, the 550D will be better in the way that it can change lenses thus being able to give you different perspectives. Furthermore, with the bigger sensor, the 550d will be able to deliver better and more natural blurry backgrounds. The 550d's files will also be more robust to edit later in post (should you wish to do so). With more manual controls on the 550d, will be able to control the camera more than most flagship smart phones as well. That said, if you just want to snap photos with accurate autofocusing system accurate white balance and also great dynamic range and colours straight from the camera, then modern smartphones would be your better choice. However, if you like to take pictures, experiment and learn, then I think the 550D would be a better option... I hope that helps. :-) I thank you very much for the compliment and also for watching, really means a lot. I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
HI. David. Great post. Im using this model camera as well, but im not a pro user of it.. recently, i come to realise that i shd use this camera up to maximum for photo and video shooting... tks for ur video posting, hope to know more on technical skills guide as well from you... tq. take care
Thank you for the kind words and for watching, really means a lot. I am also glad that the video was a bit helpful to you and I am sure that you will be able to master the camera and produce really nice contents with the camera! :-) The camera is still more the capable to produce really good results despite it's age. I sure will produce more photography contents in the future in hopes that it would benefit more people to take photography. :-) Thank you so much again for watching and also for sharing your experience, really much appreciated it. :-) Also, congrats on picking up the camera and shooting with it. I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
Canon cameras have a good reputation for making quality cameras although I don't usually use DSLR camera's myself I decided to look out forbidden to a cheap one on the second hand market because they are more versatile than bridge cameras that I normally use and recently came across a bargain buy that I had to snap up in a pawn shop it was a slightly older Canon eso 100D complete with its basic 18mm to 55mm zoom lens battery and charger it was only missing its Lens cap which is almost standard for pre owned cameras and it's neck strap the price was only 80 pound which is a bargain for a pre owned DSLR camera as well as finding one that hasn't been separated into its various different parts in order to increase the chances of finding a buyer for some of the parts eventually and finding one that hadn't all been separated made buying it a lot easier than figuring out which component parts go with which in order to make your own complete camera
Bought it for 30 bucks with a kit lens and i liked it. It is fast and the picture is good. The screen is big and is if high resolution. What i would add is flip screen and a dial wheel.
@@Darkside23123 i live a poor country where people cannot afford to buy an old camera for 300 bucks. Today at a local market place i saw a canon 450d for the same price less than 30 USD, but no one is buying it.
@@Darkside23123 better go after 650d of the price difference is not big. But the options could be very handy like flip screen and more advanced autofocus.
Thanks for the compliment and also for watching! Really appreciated. :-) Regarding your question, I am not sure about monitor recommendations but I saw that MSI Pro MP271 is quite a nice budget option so as Dell S2421NX 24" and Samsung LF22T450FQUXEN quite nice budget options. The colour is accurate enough and response quite well for editing. :-) I mainly just either use my Macbook's screen or my iMac, so I don't have a lot of experience with many monitor. Sorry about that.... But I hope that it helps a bit.. I thank you very much again for watching and also for commenting. I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting!:-)
Hi David! 👋 Thanks for the awesome review of the finely-aged 550D. After watching your review, I am in love all over again with my 550D. 💌 One small question: I realised you’re pairing your 550D with a L lens. In your opinion, how does L lens fare on 550D / how does 550D fare with a L lens? I’ve came across an opportunity to get a Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 (1st Gen) at a fairly good price, was wondering if it’s worth the shot of buying it and equip with the 550D. Thanks in advance for your reply, David!
Hi David. I recently bought a canon 550d camera and I like it. I have a question, what is the best lens for a 550d camera and what lens can a student afford? Like lenses for every occasion)
Hi, congrats on the camera and also glad to hear that you are liking the camera. With regards to the lens question, I don’t think that there is a perfect lens and it also really depends on what you do. If there is a lens that I can recommend as a versatile lens, I would say the Ef-s 17-55mm 2.8 because it is a sharp glass that has an aperture of 2.8 throughout the range. That means that you can also take pictures in lower lighting condition and it is also easy to achieve a bit of natural background as well. But there are other lenses to consider as well such as; 50mm 1.8, 11-18mm stm and 24mm stm. They are good budget lenses and they’re also really sharp as well. :-) Hope that helps. :-) Thank you very much for watching, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
@@DavidCuhls Thx. I also looking for good lens, but cheep. I have 400D with 18-55 and 5D Mark II with 24-105 F4 I love to try Lens like Ef-s 17-55mm 2.8 11-18mm stm 24mm stm
550d was my first starter camera for a company I worked for and then I bought myself a 4000d which recently broke but my friend who owns the company I no longer work for has given me the 550d for £100 plus some accessories and honestly it's no different if better than the 4000d which is a heck of alot newer camera only different is battery size and no WiFi connection to phones but I've just bought an sd card connector for my phone so I don't need WiFi it's an awesome camera for what I need it for
Hi david! Thanks for reviewing this camera. I actually also have canon 550d. I am new in photography. I only have 50mm f1.8 lens, beside that which should i go for? Could you please suggest Me?
I think that it really depends on what you are focusing on. I personally would recommend the 10-18mm stm, it's a nice fun ultra-wide angle lens that is very sharp, portable and will give you unique perspectives and it's also really affordable as well. I would also recommend 35mm and the 17-55mm f/2.8. They are really nice and versatile lens to use for the 550d. :-) Hope that helps. I thank you very much for watching, I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
I really want to by my first camera and im really interested in Canon 550D but is it really better then Iphone? Or should I look for better/newer cameras if I want it to compete with smartphones?
I think that really depends on what you do at the end of the day since both cameras are very different and offers different convenience factors. So the iPhone would be more powerful if you want the images to look as good as possible straight out of the camera since the iPhone has the ability to do computational photography right at the moment when you take the photo. However, if you like to experiment with different looks, such as using different lenses to capture different perspectives and effects that looks more natural, then a proper camera like the 550d would be a better choice. Furthermore, you will have the benefit of learning about photography and how to set certain settings over time so that you can be more creative and achieve the results that you want better than letting something like a smart phone decides the look for you. The files from the 550d is also more robust, so if you would like to edit/manipulate the images later in post, then the 550d would still be a better option to go for as well. So now it really depends on your priorities on what is more important to you and what you will most likely do in different photography scenarios. They both have their own advantages and disadvantages, that said, you still can also just use both of them depending on the scenario. Hope that helps. Thank you very much for watching, I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
You can definitely install magic lantern on this camera but I am not so sure about the RAW capabilities though as the sensor is still not that great for fast readouts... I think if you really want Magic Lantern RAW, something like the 5d mark iii would be a much better option since the sensor has a much faster readout as well as the processor is able to deliver a higher bit rate thus giving you a much cleaner file with less artificial effects... Furthermore, the 5d mark iii is now dropping a lot in price... So you much have some luck getting a good condition as well. I thank you very much for watching, I hope that everything will go well on your side. I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
you can instal magic lanter but the processor cant handle more than 4, 6 seconds of Raw video. A tested it recording RAw at 22 FPS, 1773x900 , I think, resolution and that was was I got, 5 seconds of RAW video.. and tested full HD RAW but could only get 2 seconds jajaja.. BUT magic lanter also unlock a lot of other features for photo, like intervalometer, ettr, dual iso photos, sensor as a trigger etc etc
Yeah, this camera is still a great camera to use and will still deliver great results. :-) Thanks for watching and also for commenting, really appreciate it. :-) I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
It has been pointed out by many viewers already that I said "really" too many times and I am deeply sorry for saying it too many times. I thank you very much for watching and also for the feedback. Hi David, I have a camera Canon EOS550D and I want to learn photography. My friends told me it’s an old camera and with a standard lenses I can’t do anything except taking pics of my relatives at home, that I can’t start with such camera. As a beginner I don’t have money for a new camera or new lenses. Is it really that bad and true that I can’t learn with canon 550 anything?
I personally think that the Canon eos 550D is more than capable enough to learn photography with. All the basics of photography setting from learning about aperture, ISO to shutter speed is all within this camera. Furthermore, once you have learned quite a bit about photography already and starting shooting in RAW you can really explore even more capabilities of the image quality that this camera can really deliver... You may have to invest a little bit more in the lens to be able to get different perspectives and also to be able to shoot in different lighting conditions. But overall, this camera is still a good camera that you can even shooting professionally with. I shot some professional contents back in the days as well, so don't be discouraged be the age or the fact that there are many modern cameras camera out there that has more features... Because it doesn't degrade this camera by any means... It just means that the newer cameras would make things more convenient but the 550D is still a very good camera and I think that those who overlook/over-judge this camera right away that it will not teach you photography doesn't know anything about photography because even cameras from the film era will still be able to teach you photography. I hope this helps. I wish you all the best in your photography development, I am sure you can produce amazing results and if you need a free photography guide book, the link is in the description section of my video. I thank you very much for watching, I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
@@DavidCuhls thank you David so much for your time to answer me, your honest opinion encouraged me and I will do my best to develop my skills in photography. I subscribed to your Instagram and love your work, you are very talented. I hope one day I’ll have same professional photos as you but I understand it’s a long way :) p.s thank you for the photography guide book 🫶🏻
There is an iso button on the top right of the camera near the shutter button and the mode dial. By pressing that button you can change the iso setting whether you are in photography mode or video mode. Hope that helps, thank you very much for watching, I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
I own this camera since.. it came out but didn't use it for years. Now, I want to go away from smartphone super sharp quickshots to more artistic photos with bokeh etc. and I bought some cool old lenses and adapted them for manual focusing. I know, cropping. But my problem is, I won't get really sharp focus. I try further.. my lenses are canon fd 17mm f4, 28mm f2. 8, 35-70mm and M42 55mm F1. 4
Yeah, I can totally understand, taking photos with a camera has a very feel and intention to when taking photos with a smartphone. Of course, smart phones are still very capable at delivering great image quality but the look, the feel, the colours and everything just feels very different. I am glad to hear that you are getting back to using this camera and starting to experiment with it as well. I think that sometimes the softness do just comes from the characteristics of the lens itself or it can also be using the widest aperture of the lens as the widest aperture tends to have the most softness, especially with older lenses. Also, it is possible that since the camera sensor is practically cropping into the resolution of the lens (as those lenses were meant for full frame) and further magnifying it with the high resolution of the sensor, it could also magnify the softness as well as many other flaws of the lens (if that made sense)... But I am glad that you are still experimenting and the lenses you have are very common as well as known for their unique characters too. I am sure you'll produce great results with them! I thank you very much for watching as well as for sharing your story, very much appreciated it. :-) I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
Awesome video man, i just buy this camera about 200$ with 18--55stm and 50stm , the picture look better than my pixel 4a5g,speed AF in liveview quite average, but the video recording quite normal 😂,noise sometime, should i use magic lantern ?, just for better quality video maybe?,thank for reading my comment.
Congrats on getting the camera! Also thank you very much for watching and also for the compliment, very much appreciated it! :-) Yeah, it’s not going output the cleanest files at this day and age but it will still deliver good results. :-) Actually magic lantern can help to be honest but mainly in video and you have to know how to properly colour grade/correct to be able to work with the files properly and get most out of it. :-) Hope that helps, I thank you very much again for watching and also for the compliment! I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
Guys, what would be a reasonable price to pay for this camera? A photographer I'm doing an unpaid internship with is lending me her former camera - yes, the 550D - and when I asked her if she would sell it to me, she told me I should name a price. I don't really know what would be a reasonable amount. Does anyone reading this have any suggestions? I want to buy just the body
I think that it might be best to ask about the shutter count on the camera. If the camera does not have a high shutter count then it would be a good buy:-)
@@DavidCuhls thanks! She says its just in the box. Are some lenses for it available in the market? There’s also one which is the nikon d3100 but the shutter count is 15,000. So which one’s the best?
I think both options sounds good and there are many lenses available for both Nikon and canon options. I would lean towards canon though because of the skin tones and colour science it can produce. Furthermore a bit more manual controls for video mode. That said, you can’t go wrong with both options either. I think it might just be good to check the condition of the camera is this case such as is the viewfinder clean, are there any dust spots on the sensor, are the rubbers still the same or are they slowly deteriorating, etc. Hope that helps and good luck with the system you go for!
@@AB_2311 Canon 550D can only display shutter count after installing "MAGIC LANTERN" firmware. Good lens from Canon are cheaper than Nikon. I got the NEW 15-55mm F3.5-5.6 IS STM and used 55-250mm F-5.6 IS STM for very low price through ebay. ALWAYS go for newer IS STM models (image stabilsation and Stepper motor).
The lens that I was holding is the Canon ef 24-70mm f/2.8 L USM lens. The lens is the older version, it is now available for a very low price in the second hand market since Canon stopped producing this lens so many years ago. :-) Thank you very much for watching, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
You're welcome, I am glad you found this video useful! That said, the 50D is still a great camera that also still out puts great results :-) I think it will also comes down to your priorities on which features from which cameras suits you most. :-) But thank you very much for watching, really appreciated it. I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
There are quite a lot of cheap lenses that you can get for this camera, it really depends on what you want to shoot really. On top of my head I can think of right now would be lenses like the canon ef 50mm f/1.8, canon ef-s 10-18mm stm, canon ef-s 24mm, Tokina 11-18mm f/2.8 and so on… Hope that helps. Thank you very much for watching, I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
I would personally go with the 600d over the 550d because of the articulating screen and more manual controls in video mode. Despite having pretty much the same sensor, the lowlight capability is a tiny bit cleaner than the 550D's images. That said, if you don't shoot video at all and if the articulating screen is not important to you, then you can save a bit of money by going for the 550D. Hope that helps a bit. Thank you very much for watching, I wish. you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
Yeah, I got it for under 80 euros. Usually if you have enough patience, you can bid on ebay and you can most of the time get it under 80 euros. However, the "buy it now" option tends to be a little bit more expensive (most of the are going between 90-150 euros... which is way too much for this camera in my opinion)...
Congrats on the camera setup! I am sure you'll capture/create some nice moments and memories with it. :-) Thank you very much for watching and also for sharing. I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)

These old DSLR`s really don`t cut it anymore, nobody wants to walk around with that. Use your phone, it`s far better. No wonder they are giving them away.
Thank you very much for watching as well as for sharing your perspectives. I think that this really depends on the users and their priorities at the end of the day. I am not denying the capabilities of the smartphone and their advantages. They are certainly much better with computational photography, delivering great dynamic range with sharp enough image quality, they are small and portable to carry every where with you and people will not feel too offended when doing street photography with the smartphones. Furthermore, the smart phones are just quicker to use than entry level DSLRs for many people as they usually already have a smartphone in their hands and the camera is only a touch of a button/application away. That said, I do think that old entry level DSLRs like this one still offers a great image quality and a lot of manual controls that you can really tweak your images without sacrificing too much of the image quality. The ability to add on proper polarising filter, ND filters, change lenses for different effects and perspective, etc. Furthermore, the ability to add on many different vintage lenses to give a different look can still look more pleasing than filters/presets that you get when shooting with the smartphones. So I think it really depends on the priorities and needs of each photographer. Not even for beginners but even as professionals, we recognise that certain types of shots are better to capture with a smartphone than using a bigger professional camera and vice versa. @@DavidCuhls No problem man, to me it really shows that you are deeply connected with photography and you are passionate about it. Keep up the amazing videos.
Regarding aperture priority in video mode, sometimes I am in situations where I don’t have time to set everything manually, so what I like to do on my 5d mark iii, 1DX, R5, etc. is to set my limit on auto ISO and shutter speed in case when I use aperture priority. I like to have full control of my depth of field regardless of situation. So having aperture priority in video would greatly make my video workflow much more efficient as well as practical. But of course, this is only how I like to shoot. I thank you very much for watching and I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting. Happy new year to you
@@DavidCuhls I guess you’re a photographer and not a videographer. Video is not something you want adjusting automatically as your filming. Unless it’s for shits and giggles, you have your 180 rule which means your shutter should always be set to double your frame rate. Aperture, I couldn’t see why you would want that adjusting as your filming. At the very least if you’re running and gunning it should be your ISO that is set to auto. Shutter and aperture you set it and forget it unless you want to isolate your subject in certain shots
Here in Western and Northern Europe, it is usually under 80 euros when bidding for the camera (but a bit more when you go for the "buy it now" option). As I said a few times, if you have the patience to wait rather than going for the "buy it now" option, it can save you some money. However, this also depends on the region of the world as camera values in different regions are not the same... I am sorry if I have mislead any information.... I thank you very much for watching, congratulations on getting the camera, I am sure you'll produce great results with it. I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting. :-)
Thanks for this video, it makes me feel even better about my purchase! lol :)
Thank you for a really really interesting and useful video
Thanks David for your very detailed review. You really give me more confident of the machine and now I will focus on how to improve my skills and aesthetic. I just bought my 550d wiith EF-S 10-22mm lens for around 200 USD. Now I will try my best to do some landscape and portrait photography with it!
Congrats on getting the camera setup! I am sure that you’ll be able to create some really nice results with it. Maybe adding the 50mm 1.8 will definitely help your out a lot with portraits. :-) Thank you very much for watching and also for the compliment, it really means a lot!

The exact same happend to me, I've been making a lot of picture that I never could've made with just my phone.
Thanks for ur detailed review! I have just got my 550D from my dad who owned it for 10 years 😂. Good to know how to use it!
one option: try to update the firmware and it might be better.
really-really nice review!
@DavidCuhls I'm new to photography and was wondering if you would recommend the 550d, 600d, 700d or 60d as a first camera, which would you suggest?
Really really thank you brother. Was gonna sell off mine but I think I'm gonna keep it after watching your reviews
hi! im thinking of buying this as my 1st dslr, for I'm only using smart phones. would you recommend this for video recording, and like for event photo/video shoots?
thank you.
Thank you. I just started my RUclips channel, so I think that this camera will be good choice, for the firs time... 😉

Canon cameras have a good reputation for making quality cameras although I don't usually use DSLR camera's myself I decided to look out forbidden to a cheap one on the second hand market because they are more versatile than bridge cameras that I normally use and recently came across a bargain buy that I had to snap up in a pawn shop it was a slightly older Canon eso 100D complete with its basic 18mm to 55mm zoom lens battery and charger it was only missing its
Lens cap which is almost standard for pre owned cameras and it's neck strap the price was only 80 pound which is a bargain for a pre owned DSLR camera as well as finding one that hasn't been separated into its various different parts in order to increase the chances of finding a buyer for some of the parts eventually and finding one that hadn't all been separated made buying it a lot easier than figuring out which component parts go with which in order to make your own complete camera
Bought it for 30 bucks with a kit lens and i liked it. It is fast and the picture is good. The screen is big and is if high resolution. What i would add is flip screen and a dial wheel.
How tho? Where i live its 220 on facebook marketplace used
@@Darkside23123 i live a poor country where people cannot afford to buy an old camera for 300 bucks. Today at a local market place i saw a canon 450d for the same price less than 30 USD, but no one is buying it.

Thanks for the compliment and also for watching! Hi David! 👋 Thanks for the awesome review of the finely-aged 550D. After watching your review, I am in love all over again with my 550D. 💌
One small question: I realised you’re pairing your 550D with a L lens.
Thank you man!
Hope that helps. :-) Thank you very much for watching, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)

Hi David Can you review 550D with some lenses, what suits for the 550D and how to use it. ? 😁
what is that spooky music in the background..? and do i need this camera if i got iphone 11..?
@@DavidCuhls thank you
I really want to by my first camera and im really interested in Canon 550D but is it really better then Iphone?

How did you connect Cannon 550d to MacBook . Thanks.🙏
I have this camera as well but I do a lot of videos. Want to have a look if I can install Magic Lantern to shoot with RAW
How can you eliminate the woosh sound with even an external mic?

what’s your lens?

@@set3777 just saw this now, thanks. I decided to stick to canon
What is the lens you are holding?
The lens that I was holding is the Canon ef 24-70mm f/2.8 L USM lens. The lens is the older version, it is now available for a very low price in the second hand market since Canon stopped producing this lens so many years ago. :-) Thank you very much for watching, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
Thx bro
Got that one, too and love it! High-ISO performance could be better, but who cares? =)
‘Fun to grip’ 😝
Thanks I was this 🤏🏼 close to buy that 50D. 😮😂
What cheap Lenses can I get for it
There are quite a lot of cheap lenses that you can get for this camera, it really depends on what you want to shoot really. :-)
@@DavidCuhls is their any like zoom lenses
Hey man. Great vid. Good photos. Better than mine 😅.
Q: how can you access the sound/preamp setting on it? I couldn't find mine.
550D or 600D?
I would personally go with the 600d over the 550d because of the articulating screen and more manual controls in video mode. Despite having pretty much the same sensor, the lowlight capability is a tiny bit cleaner than the 550D's images. That said, if you don't shoot video at all and if the articulating screen is not important to you, then you can save a bit of money by going for the 550D. Hope that helps a bit. Thank you very much for watching, I wish. you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
@@DavidCuhls how about 1300d? what u think
under 80€?
Yeah, I got it for under 80 euros. Usually if you have enough patience, you can bid on ebay and you can most of the time get it under 80 euros. However, the "buy it now" option tends to be a little bit more expensive (most of the are going between 90-150 euros... which is way too much for this camera in my opinion)...
Just bought 2 of them with 15-85 lens for less than 80 euros 🙂
Congrats on the camera setup! I am sure you'll capture/create some nice moments and memories with it. :-) Thank you very much for watching and also for sharing. I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
I lost count on how many times he said “really really”

I am sorry for saying it too often. Thank you very much for watching as well as for the feedback. I am deeply sorry again that I said it too often and will do my best to improve my future contents. Have a nice day.
really really , really really, really really, really really
really really?
I am deeply sorry that I said "really" very often. It's made quite clear by many other viewers as well. I am also sorry if it really bothered you and/or ruined your viewing experience. I will do my best to improve myself in my future content. I thank you very much for watching, I wish you a good time and have fun shooting.
I thank you for watching as well as for commenting. I wish you a good time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
Really?
I am not sure what you mean by "really"... If you didn't like my video or if I offended you in anyway, I am deeply sorry about it. I will do my best to improve my future videos.
Thank you for watching, I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting
@@DavidCuhls hi David, just kiddin because you said the word 'really' so many times in your video but I did really 😛 like it actually so no worries ♥️
I'm sorry but i couldn't help but notice the fact that you keep saying "Really really" LOL. Nice video though.
Haha, I am really sorry about that.. I tend to say that I a lot... I will do my best to improve in my future videos thought and thank you for pointing it out. Also, thank you very much for watching and for comment, really appreciated it. I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
@@DavidCuhls No problem man, to me it really shows that you are deeply connected with photography and you are passionate about it. Keep up the amazing videos.
MMmLSOoooooo
Why would you want shutter and aperture priority in video mode???? You can’t be making this shit up 😂😂😂
Regarding aperture priority in video mode, sometimes I am in situations where I don’t have time to set everything manually, so what I like to do on my 5d mark iii, 1DX, R5, etc. is to set my limit on auto ISO and shutter speed in case when I use aperture priority. I like to have full control of my depth of field regardless of situation. So having aperture priority in video would greatly make my video workflow much more efficient as well as practical. But of course, this is only how I like to shoot.
I thank you very much for watching and
I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting.
Really the really really?😂😂😂
I paid $129 for it, what do you mean 80 euros?
Here in Western and Northern Europe, it is usually under 80 euros when bidding for the camera (but a bit more when you go for the "buy it now" option). As I said a few times, if you have the patience to wait rather than going for the "buy it now" option, it can save you some money. However, this also depends on the region of the world as camera values in different regions are not the same... I am sorry if I have mislead any information.... I thank you very much for watching, congratulations on getting the camera, I am sure you'll produce great results with it. I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting. :-)
@@DavidCuhls your information is great, I was just whining, LOL.
