I would HIGHLY recommend turning on keeping your items at death. The game will become practically unplayable and you’ll have to start from scratch a lot as you progress if you don’t. To make something a house, you also need to all background wall to it, and you can also craft platforms that let you jump up and around between floors without going outside. I’d also recommend starting a mine somewhere in your house to get better gear quickly
rest in pieces dylan also some friendly non-spoiler tips! try running as far to the left and right as you can manage. this way you will have a good layout of the land concerning daniel's house it needs "walls" to be considered a home check your crafting table with some wood you should see walls also try finding a cave that leads underground. there might be goodies! p.s. if you find any chests you can break and take the chest with you. this is very useful for storing items keep in mind chests cannot be broken unless completely empty
Terraria gameplay: Explore, mine, craft, bossfight, enter hardmode, explore again ,mine again, craft again , lot of bossfights repate until you finish game. And also terraria wiki is a must for starters. ( it took me 200 hours to beat because back in the day i didnt have internet to look up how to progress...)
i played so much terraria as a kid, it was my first video game and was what i played instead of minecraft saying that, others seem to be giving a lot of tips so ill try and fill in where i haven't seen the answers for the reason it got 'so foggy' on your first world is you died so many times and didn't break your gravestones that it became a graveyard biome, which gives that ambiance and im pretty sure can spawn ghost-like enemies. apart from destroying walls, hammers can also be used to edit/shape blocks, this can be used to create slopes and half blocks for decoration or defense, it's also kinda glitchy (on the pc version at least) and can be used as a method of transport (known as a hoik) For progression, a lot of it is underground esp in earlygame, so try and find a cave near you and explore, just remember to bring light and mind the fall damage
you can find a couple menus in your inventory above the equipment slots on the right, the middle one shows npcs and a question mark, which tells you what a house is missing
From someone with over 1000 hours in the game, here are some starter tips: 1. Don't do mediumcore. Trust me, you'll regret it later, just do softcore instead so you don't lose your items on death. 2. To make a suitable house, you need to make it at least 6 blocks tall and 10 blocks wide, as well as include a table (The workbench counts as one), a chair, any source of light and background walls (which you didn't include, they should be in your crafting menu at a workbench). Every NPC has their own spawn condition as well as a preferred biome and liked/disliked NPCs (Although I wouldn't worry about the happiness system too much for now as it gets really complicated). 3. Explore until you find a desert because if you get enough cactus, you can craft armour and a sword from it, which is much better than wooden tools. Some other biomes to look out for are the snow biome (Which has good loot underground), the jungle (Which also has good loot underground but should be saved for later, however if you fell daring enough, the rewards are really good for the early game), as well as your world evil biome (Either the corruption or crimson, whichever you picked and I recommend you stay away from them for now but also give decent loot) 4. Try to find a cave opening or mine down near your base and aim to mine every ore you see except for copper or tin (Whichever your world has) as it really isn't that good, I'll explain the ores more in a bit. Also, be on the lookout for golden chests, which contain good loot, as well as red hearts (life crystals), which permanently increase your max hp. While on the topic, also try to get 15 of any gem (Diamond, sapphire, topaz, etc.) as it will allow you to craft a grappling hook which is good for exploration and some bossfights. 5. After you got some good upgrades, you should think about choosing your class (You don't strictly have to stick to it but it does make it easier to play). The 4 main classes are: Melee (I would recommend this for beginners like you), Ranger (This is also a good choice for beginners but slightly more complicated than melee), Mage (Really gimmicky and can be hard to play as a beginner) and summoner (Hard to get started in the early game but gets really powerful later on, also I would recommend using summons even if you don't use the class as they can be really helpful to deal more damage) Some more about ores: There are 4 tiers of ore in the early game and each tier has 2 different ores (One of them is randomly chosen during world generation). Tier 1, being copper or tin, should generally just be ignored, although this is just my opinion and I'm not stopping you from making things with it, but it will get outclassed really fast. Tier 2, being, iron or lead, should be gathered as it is used to make an anvil to be able to craft things out of ores, and the gear from it can be good if you don't have enough of the higher tier ores to make better gear. Tier 3, being silver or tungsten, Should also be mined and can be used to make good gear early game, and is probably enough to defeat a few bosses, but you should really be going for full tier 4 gear. Tier 4, being gold or platinum, should absolutely be mined and you should aim to make at least full tier 4 armour as well as the tier 4 pickaxe, as it allows you to mine a lot faster and is probably enough to get you further into your evil biome. I think you should absolutely continue playing Terraria as it gets really good later on, the early game might put you off but I think the pain is worth it R.I.P Dylan
Also tier 5 ores, which is gotten from the demon alters or crimson alters, you can break them after defeating a boss, which will make the game HARDER aka hardmode, it gives harder bosses and better ores, the boss gives you an item called pwnhammer you can use it to break the demon alters. Heres the list of ores Mineable first hardmode ores: Palladium, Cobalt, Mineable with the first hardmode pickaxe aka palladium or cobalt pickaxe or drills: Oricalcum, Mythril The last type of ore which is mines from orilcalcum or mythril pickaxe/drill: Mythril, Titanium And more: Once you beat one of the mechanical bosses/hardmode mechanical bosses you can craft a drax or pickaxe axe aka a pickaxe and a axe combines, also the drax is a drill mechanical bosses drops a bar that is called hallowed bars, you can make good weapons and armor. You can mine a ore called chlorefite (i cannot f*cking spell the f*cking ore) Its a ore thats very good to use if you use the melee class, yes there is classes, oh? You wanna know how to use a class? Heres some list of classes and subclasses, and sub subclasses (aka the useless classes) with their weapons not armor since im too lazy. Melee: Broadswords, Shortswords, Ranged: Guns, Darts, Bows. Magic/wizard: Magic weapons/wands. Summoner (which is the hardest class to use, you need extreme skill to use this class properly): Whips (yes whips, basically slavery for the player to the summons, also they have a special priority which is called tag damage it boosts the summon damage) Summoner weapons, if they have a mob name its summoner staff, like finch, imp, stardust summoner staff and etc. Subclasses: Basically every class in the normal class section just combined, like Melee armor for defense and summoner weapons for prioritizing dodging (thats why its very hard to use summoner) And sub subclasses: Yoyo class: Self explanatory. Boomerang class: Also self explanatory. And etc. I yapped so much.
Amazing tips that will help u next episode: Go mining to find materials you can u use to make better tools and stuff (basically like Minecraft) Also whist mining you will find caves that can spawn chests which usually have good loot such as accessories that are really helpful such as ones that increase movement speed and giving you a double jump To make a house suitable for npcs it needs to be a certain size and it needs walls, a table, and chair and a door Finally I think you should build a statue in honour of Dylan so we’ll always remember him, RIP Dylan 🥺

I’ll change that
Dont ever use big world, world size progression is like small is 25%, medium is 50%, big is 100%. Small world size is for someone who already played and doesnt need mega ultra big arena, medium is for everyone, big is only for servers
ngl I have always disagreed with that idea, (probably because i play a lot more after i beat the moon lord, but my main world is a large world, and it feels so small to me that I have to use multiple worlds so I don't run out of space for things. though I agree that you should use small starting off.
Big have more content so i went with that solo 💀
Personally, I'd say large world is probably better but I do see where you are coming from
