As a person who can say they woke up a street over from where I started in a tornado and pinned for hours it's wild to hear this. No jealousyvvut fr, seriously happy for anyone w. Their childhood collection.... Its always, always about the for the game.... That childhood dream, or the gas to help get u to a goal or past a hardship... Sometimes we need that distraction, or hope... Sports, and those little cards..... In a good way helped give me several of these in the worst time of my life nearly losing my legs as a teenager. Gave me the distraction, and hope, and something to put my mind on something positive keeping my mind away from pain&;going a whole other way. Likely, it saved my life or at the very least, I cannot even say.... Treasure breath, breath deep living it full, and appreciation to all those there then or helped along the way. Rem guys, this was always just a hobby, and maybe momentary escape otherwise described as fun
Personally I could never let go of a treasure like that, and I mean sentimental idc a dollar to many could never hold a candle. I wish I had my collection complete. Had a shady friend stay with me and he returned the favor by stealing my mother's wedding band, my sports card collection, my ,1990s NBA panini sticker collection,my ray Allen supersonics jersey, and other family heirlooms that were priceless to me. Again, to me, not a dollar thing, but priceless. I say all that to say, appreciate what u got. U are here for the briefest moment in life, in the grand scheme... Be the best, and always pass that around. But on the other hand if u had a diar dam emergency or a emergency with a family member, or friend I would sell immediately if it mad that kinda difference or impact. They're a memory, sometimes more or less to each person... But never let it become the center of life over, well, real life.. wish everyone the best, and stay blessed on this beautifuo saturday
My collection has been insured for years. The Southern states are notorious for tornadoes while here in California we specialize in wildfires and earthquakes. Hopefully she held the cards. As a Baseball Card Collector, Collector, Collector, I just hold. I know thats a crazy concept in today's flipper world 😆 Cant afford any vintage grails unless I were to win the Powerball. Thanks for sharing.
Sell the Mick, buy a PSA 1 and have plenty left over to acquire more grails, pay off debt, etc. Thanks for sharing, Mike! I vaguely remember this one from the roadshow, the tornado bit sticks out.
Great story. I’d sell the Mantle. Put it in a major auction and savor owning it until the hammer comes down. Keep the exquisite Jackie and rare Ted. Use some of those Mantle bucks to pick up other Jackie’s. The only Jackie I own is the 1956 Topps in PSA-8 MC. I would love to own a 1948 Leaf of his in almost any condition, graded.
Mantle Rookie? The only argument that can be made is that it's his FIRST Topps card so it could be said that it's his first Topps Rookie. As he played 96 games in 1951, his 51 Bowman would be his only true rookie. No argument for the 52 Topps as his first true rookie card.
My middle son just lost his Magic the Gathering cards and everything he owned to an apartment fire last month. He had a decent collection with some valuable cards. Unfortunately he didnt have renter's insurance.
@@JunkWaxHero it was a pretty scary call we got from my sister who worked at the hospital and was the one who admitted him. She didn't recognize him due to all the soot. After our grandson, his roommate and all other tenants were safe, He tried going back in to save his cats and did receive some minor burns to his face and hands. Cats didn't make it.
That Ted card is awesome. I was looking at a 55 Mantle from Japan this week. The idea being cards probably have lower pops coming from a different country. Have you seen the 55 Japan Mantle? Lol.
Would you sell?
As I never sell, I'd still have them. Now if it was todays prices, it could be a different story..
@@jakestoe yeah exactly
I'd sell... but not at the appraiser's estimates!

Sounds like you have an amazing backstory
No guarantees in anything, of course…but this is one reason why I love the vaults…
If this is one of your last AFF's you're going out with a bang! I really enjoyed the series!
Thank you! Definitely more to come but the end is nigh.

Yeah Maine really doesn’t have much weather issues thankfully

YES! This is the exact move I’d make.

Me too! It’s very high on my list.

Agreed

Devastating! I hope everyone got out safe.

@@jakestoe tragic. Sorry to hear.
long term hold for me. Nothing but bragging rights.!!!
Cards that mother nature ( almost) threw away.

I have not seen that card!
Love the videos!
Thank you!
I would definitely sell today. Home improvement time!
Yes! My wife wants a new kitchen!
I wouldn't have sold them.
And now you’d have a lot more valuable cards!
I would sell the Mantle, since I have one 😂
lol I’m so jealous still
At this time I would sell due to financial issues....otherwise probably sell Jackie and Williams and keep the Mantle.
Sorry to hear, Randy. I hope things start looking up.
Insanely interesting story
Yes!
top notch vid again sir! I think i woulda sold at the time and then had major buyers remorse later down the road and kicked myself non stop.
Yeah that’s how I feel every time I sell something
