    if you want your shine to be crystal clear so there is no haze what so ever when you hold it up to a light bulb then i suggest you use cotton ball in your funnel, that 300 micron will not do the job if you really want it crystal like it came from factory, yes it will be slower but worth it, just use enough small piece of cosmetic cotton ball to get a steady stream going and here is the formula i made for proofing down
    [Vol initial x % abv initial]/ % abv final - Vol initial= Vol to add

    I’m still waiting on that Ohio blue corn sour lactose fermented batch with the main Grove jacks cider yeast. I’m excited to hear how fruity and accessory that comes out. I just started a fresh batch of rum with 100% molasses from tractor supply that’s used as a deer attractive. It’s the cheapest molasses you can find on the market. A dose of my rum muck waited 24 hours and then pitched Nottingham ale yeast. I’m ready for some fruity Jamaican rum.

      Same in my area I buy the deer molasses to put on my mineral licks when hunting 😜 never thought about using it for rum you can't find bulk mallases in my area only online but it turned out really good I will have the video uploaded soon I put it straight in a Badmo barrel all the grains carried over nicely with a good 4th generation sour mash flavor with almost a sweet brandy note on the back definitely will keep making the Blue Oat Whiskey I'm sure you will love it as well the MGJ M02 yeast does take a little longer to ferment off but it's worth it it adds a fruity character a lot of people can't tell the difference, but if your pallet's trained right, you can taste the difference every time. It's really good on a brandy This was my first time using it on a grain Mash and it was pretty good but it definitely stands out on a brand new over EC 1118

      @@TheShineshack I keep an eighty oz jar filled with light brown sugar, yeast nutrient with an aquarium bubbler and an air check valve to vent pressure. I just remove half the liquid each week and replace with sugary nutrient water. The removed liquid is placed in the fridge to settle and collect the yeast. So I can pitch cold yeast or take off the top of my yeast propagating jar any time I want to pitch yeast. I’m cultivating Nottingham ale yeast. It has one of the widest temp ranges in yeasts and can be used for many styles. But I may have to start a perpetual jar of the mangrove jacks. Thanks for the update. You’re the best.

    • @TheShineshack
      @TheShineshack  7 месяцев назад

      Yeah it works great I just ordered a ball valve to put on it with a bulk head but I make my own American white oak charcoal drill a small hole in the lid of a metal popcorn tin like a 16-in hole. Put about 3-in pieces of American white oak in the 10. Put the lid on it. Build a good fire. Sit the tin in the fire until you no longer see smoke. Coming out the hole in the lid. Let it cool then open and you got lump charcoal

    What u mean, start with lower proof up to higher proof?

    • @TheShineshack
      @TheShineshack  3 месяца назад

      When it comes to sampling your numbered jars if your new to it you don't want to start tasting at jar number 1 the highest proof it can burn you pallet out and then everything will taste the same it's best to start at your last jar and work towards the first jar so start with your Lowest proof then work towards the highest you also can do a 50/50 blend with water to open it up and drop the proof some as you do it for awhile your pallet gets use to it and it doesn't really matter where you start its less likely to burn your pallet out Also drink plenty of water in between each jar so you can really taste the differences from jar to jar

    Hey Red. Could you use still flavoured mineral water ? this would proof down your spirit and add flavour as well.

    • @TheShineshack
      @TheShineshack  6 месяцев назад +1

      I'm sure you could I would try a small sample first to make sure it doesn't cloud up sometimes if there's a lot of minerals in the water it'll cloud up but just do it on a very small scale and if everything works out good you can up it to a large scale

      idk about spring water but usually there are very few bottled waters i like because i find them off tasting most likely from the plastic but store bought gallon distilled water works for me as it stays neutral and allows the shine flavors to be dominant, i also make my own distilled water using my still, kinda has a natural sweet taste if i recall

    Old timers never needed anything other than a glass bottles to give you the best liquor you will ever drink, This guy here is over thinking the whole process of making liquor, Really folks you don't need any special equipment in making shine .

    • @soyourwifewantsyouto

      The old timers got taught by someone... Likely their daddy or grand daddy.
      Folks nowadays don't have that lineage or wisdom being passed down.
      So I respectfully disagree. Red is imparting his wisdom to those who don't know. And doing it in an electronic format instead of in person. So he needs to be more articulate.
