Yeah I know 😁 I racked my brain to figure this out because of the grain cap but it definitely works awesome it's almost done working off about another day or 2 and she will be ready to rock
Running lacto in a whisky mash is pretty cool and up my alley. I’ve played a lot with Jamaican rum and have a lacto heavy dunder that does that vomit into pineapple thing real good. I need to try my rum dunder in a good whisky. If you watch “This blog is neat”, here on RUclips. She compares a couple rum dunders several episodes ago and mine is the one she calls a “Muk”.
Awesome yeah it turns out really good in a whiskey mash and a brandy even I definitely wanna start playing around with rum but that's awesome I will definitely go check it out
Hey, Red. I’ve been gone for a while but glad to be back. Great mash video. As a beer brewer, I’ve never fermented on the grain and this is a great example for how to. The pellicle on top from the lacto looked great. You can also use grain as a source of lacto if you don’t have any from a company as well. That’s a different story, though. Keep up the awesome work!
Awesome glad you back I've been gone a little bit myself since the hurricane a few months ago. Trying to get back on track now. But yep you're right. Absolutely. I use malted barley all the time or fresh sweet corn. I'll give you a good lacto infection as well
This mash bill was an All grain you can add some sugar if you would like I do all the time I didn't when I made this particular mash but by adding 1/2 - 1 lbs per gallon want hurt anything The only time adding sugar will hurt you is if you go adding crazy amounts like 3 lb per gallon and can make your liquor fiery always try to keep my starting gravity around 1.075 being the highest I will usually go
Hell yeah I heard him on the podcast talking about that corn it should be really good I have used those corns separately and they were fantastic let me know how it turns out I'm cross pollinating corn myself this year but I'm crossing a couple sweet corn varieties my figs are about the same size I'm watching pears and peaches to my honey holes 😂
@@TheShineshack I saw your garden post. I will be running a mash with just his corn in my first run so I will let you know. I don't see how it could be bad.
I have been slacking the past month I have been extremely busy at work and home life I'm filming today and I'm hoping to edit the part 2 tonight hopefully I'm sorry for the lack of content I've been super busy at work with my new career change. I'm expecting to get weekends off soon and that'll change everything. I appreciate all you guys support and I definitely ain't giving up on the channel soon. I'll be back to posting the video every week. Hope to see some of y'all at Maggie valley Hillbilly jam also.....Shine On
Thank you I know me too I will transfer the grain bed over and give it a shot I put it on my 15 gallon mash barrel I mashed in in a 30 gallon as long as I don't have to hand strain grains I'm stoked 😂
Hey Red. Me ole mucker I heard the UK mentioned for your wifi hydrometer got any more info for me to help with what do you get in the kit etc, what colour cap any and all info would be appreciated. South Wales UK.
The different colors are just so if you get multiple you can tell you mashes apart on which ever app you choose to use they are all the same the one I got just came with the hydrometer and instructions if your wifi signal is weak they sell signal boosters for them also if needed but here is the link for the one I got I hope this helps brother if you have any other questions feel free to ask also I decided to go with the brewspy app with mine www.etsy.com/listing/1047707321/ispindel-wifi-tilt-hydrometer
Yep it sure is 😆 So far I have used it on a apple brandy and lived it and now on a All-grain and its fermenting beautifully and hard I really like it compared to ec-118 and dady yeast it definitely adds more esters
Make sure you calibrate it to your specific needs it definitely takes a little effort and technology savvy to get it setup and going I was lost I had to have my wife set it up it can be complicated at first but it comes with instructions
I'm hoping to get it up this weekend I apologize 😔 I have been super busy I had a complete career change now I'm in the auto mechanic industry and work long hours very soon I will get weekends off And I will be able to get back on track posting one video a week. I apologize for the inconvenience. I know I haven't posted anything in a while but there is more coming. I am not giving up on the channel or you guys nor will I ever...Shine On
Absolutely I don't know the lovibond of it as I use it for flavor I use High Temperature Alpha amylase to do all my conversations and try to stay as close to 2.5-3 lbs per gallon grain to water but I buy it at a local brew shop but it's called Dark Wheat Malt (German Weyermann)
Thanks I appreciate it yep here is the link to the triple scale hydrometer SOLIGT Triple Scale Hydrometer and Glass Test Jar for Wine, Beer, Mead & Cider - ABV, Brix and Gravity Test Kit a.co/d/hWRBo4J
The most important tool I believe you can have here is a cool kit that comes with all the important tools you may need stillntheclear.com/product/new-distillers-tool-kit/aff/1/
I don't use a air lock most of the time I like open fermentation there isn't a set number of times you need to open the lid or anything I just open it whenever I need to check it but if you aren't using a airlock make sure the lid isn't sealed or it will explode 😂 just sit the lid on it to keep any possible bugs out and let it rock the CO2 produced keeps a layer on top of the mash wich protects the mash but in a fruit (Brandy) mash I always open it up 1 time a day to knock the cap down just to prevent and drying out or possible mold issues
Thanks Red, super interesting... damn man i was so excited i malted my own sweet corn last week and you pull this on me. Lol.. im light years behind ya but pretty proud of the end results.. thanks again man.. God Bless...
We all gotta start somewhere I definitely don't know it all by no means and never will .....That's awesome I'm glad it worked out for you that is actually a huge accomplishment I love malting corn myself it really makes some good Likker....Shine On
Also guys I held the fermentation at 70°F-75°F or 21°C-23°C
Neat trick with the floating bucket for the floating hydrometer. Can't wait to hear how this one tastes.

Watching your blue oat whiskey video love it you said you can add surgar to mash how much sugar did you use

Love the content. Keeping it fresh. I just got 30 pounds of Merica blend from Philbilly. Waiting on the amylase. Figs are about the size of my pinky.

I like that M02 also. Just put down an all molasses rum with it and have used it with all grain and brandies. Great high ester yeast
Absolutely! It's my new favorite yeast. I've been using it with everything
Excellent video as usual red. Can’t wait to see how well the mash filter works.
Thank you I know me too I will transfer the grain bed over and give it a shot I put it on my 15 gallon mash barrel I mashed in in a 30 gallon as long as I don't have to hand strain grains I'm stoked 😂

Hey Red, could you clarify which “dark wheat” you use in your recipe? What lovibond or specific brand/description? Thank you!

Hey red did you use a 55gal drum for you fermenter or was it smaller
I always use 30 gallon barrels
Did you need up using the air lock or just a lid? If you use just a lid, do you open it up everyday or ? Thanks
