    I have a massive massive respect for you for avoiding any annoying background music, speech or your selfie clips. Lot of Indian rail RUclipsrs fail to understand this and keep talking throughout the video, showing their faces half of the time while adding cringe background music. Its my hobby to cover Indian Railways through clips in your style / Kuga's travel style someday. I'm currently young.

    29:07 Indian Railway Passanger Car Labels:
    H- First AC
    A- AC 2 Tier
    B- AC 3 Tier
    S- Sleeper (Non-AC)
    C- AC Chair Car (3 +2 Seating)
    D- Non-AC Chair Car
    E- Executive Chair Car
    Cars are numbered based on this. For example, if the service has two AC two-tiers, they will be labelled A1 and A2. For composite coaches such as the one your riding in, the letters are combined, hence HA1. Hope this helps.

    1. Not exactly running in desert. Desert is western side of that hill range.
    2. Technically you need a “platform ticket” if u dont have a journey ticket. Sometimes tthey’re strict in some stations. Not most times.
    3. That diesel loco IS EMD. Technology transfer. Before this IR diesel locos were ALCO. Now GM makes diesel locos for IR.
    4. You should make it clear to ur audience that they can check their berths by looking up their PNR number before boarding.
    6. Obscene amount of railway and third party apps and websites to check current running status & time tables for trains.
    7. Sleepers are airy. But u r from cold country. Just that they can be crowded. Else much prefer sleepers for the air.
    8. Unfortunately the coaches are made to international measurements even though broad gauge gives IR some leeway. Now it wud take lots of investments to widen width between tracks also. And we can easily run double deckers for all train but alas 😢
    9. HA1 is mix of AC1 & AC2.
    10. Diesel is pulling due to very fast electrification in recent years. Not enuf electrics, especially in routes most recently electrified.
    11. The bi level container car is normal flatbed not well due to broad gauge.
    12. All those u r saying “technical stops” r commercial stops. Technical (cum commercial) stop should only be abu road where they may have done crew change.

    The high rise cartenary is to run double stack containers friegt trains. All the DFC( dedicated freight corridors) Eastern and Western and the ADI - Delhi line has the high rise cartenary.
    These lines were electrified new.
    All the other lines in India is normal.
    Rajasthan literally was a metre gauge state before now this changed after government implemented the Unigauuge system.

    high panto is used as OHE are made as to cater stack trains , we don't use well cars for double stacking , Broad gauge provides enough stability that it can be done with normal flat cars itself

  • @engineeredarmy1152

    37:08 Yes. This is because the double stacked containers of freight trains enter the main lines via the dedicated freight corridor to reach last miles. India developed this special catenary back in 2008 for supporting dedicated freight corridors.

  • @Spanderson99
    @Spanderson99 Год назад +3

    AC 2 tier looks like the classic North American style open-section sleeper. Do they fold into seats during the day? Indian railway stations still have that special atmosphere about them. People running around with carts full of mail and luggage, 20 car trains pulling in and out, loco changes, evt. Here in Canada, they won’t let you on the platform until the train has stopped. One day I’ll feel brave enough to see it for myself, before all the loco-hauled slam doot trains are replaced by something faster.

    The reason why the train 04821 has a WAP-7 locomotive with a different pantograph is that the WAP-7 has scheduled container Services that must run on the dedicated Freight corridor. If they make 04821 longer or use coaches that consume more power than a wap-7 then a WAG-12 is used like how your Caucasus Mountains train has a 2ES5K or 2ES4K locomotive in some parts to give power supply to the double decker coach otherwise two EP2K or EP1s are required

Indian trains have open windows and hawkers sell food items throughout the train journey so, people eat and then throw garbage out of windows. So, unless a conscious change happens in the mindset of Indians it will be a difficult task clear garbage from Indian tracks.

  • @jfmezei
    @jfmezei Год назад +7

    This high catenaries are India's answer to an addiction to double stacked containers, the excuse used by USA/Canada to refuse to electrify.
    In north america, there are also some car carries that are 3 stories high and won't fit under normal catenary systems. As you notied, you need special pantograpghs and can't reach high speeds with thjem since they are so tall. In the end, this creates incompatible train with the rest of the Indian network (hence the dedicated separate tracks for those trains) and would only work point-to point.)
    Gad to see you are back, had noticed you hadn't posted videos on a while.
    You should have gone to the buffet car. (even if you switched from your car to it during a station stop and witched back to your car at another station).
    Is there a strategic reason for India to switch to such a broad gauge in 1990 instead of going to standard gauge?

    • @avijeet424
      @avijeet424 Год назад +5

      Actually India never had Standard gauge, it's always Broad gauge from 1853. & Indian govt also never tried to change it, bcz not only India have to change Gauge but also need to replace all Locomotives, Coaches & wagons. & IT will be very costly. & India has very high pantograph in those stations, which is very close to sea port. Bcz of double stake containers fright trains.

    • @tanmay63
      @tanmay63 Год назад +1

      all trains that run on high rise ohe tracks can run on normal electric tracks with the exception of double stack container trains, locos don't need any change other than panto's high rise capabilities (which I am not sure of as a lot of locos have been getting these two stage pantos lately), also normal IR tracks on those sections have high rise ohes as well as dfcs.

    • @jfmezei
      @jfmezei Год назад

      @@tanmay63 Unless all locos are equipped with those high pantographs, you still end up with incompatible systems. And pretty sure those very high pantogrpahs would have speed limits.

    • @arjunganeshan
      @arjunganeshan Год назад +3

      @@jfmezei These high rise pantographs are perfectly designed to run at 160 km/hr. However they max speed as of today is 130Km/he without track fencing and expected to reach 160Km/he in next 5 years. The OHE high rise panto in india is only between Ahmedabad and outskirts of Delhi as they are being used for double stack containers as western DFC has only recently been built. The same engine with high rise panto can ply on any other route with a normal OHE height. so this helps ensure compatibility of the locomotive to use anywhere on indian railways

    We currently have a shortage of electric locomotives on IR. The reason is, IR has been on a fast electrification spree, in recent years. We went from a 38% electrified network in 2015 - 2016 too almost 85% electrification now. Naturally, on such a vast system, we are facing a shortage of electric locomotives. Plus, we still have lots of Diesels in a good condition.
    Plus, many existing electric locomotives still have to be fitted with adjustable pantographs which are compatible with high rise OHEs of this particular section.

    That journey was slow....even by IR standards. On many of IR's trunk routes, the top operating speed of trains is 130 km/h, regardless of the class of the train. Your train didn't seem to cross the threshold of 90 km/h.

    You never answered the question as to why they use diesel locomotives on an all electric line.
    Since are/were there you could answer that much more easily than i can. Did you ask anyone there?

    • @shubhamrawat3801
      @shubhamrawat3801 Год назад +5

      Because electrification work is still going on...so Diesel locomotives are in use for diesel routes..

    • @thetechnocrat4979
      @thetechnocrat4979 Год назад +8

      We electrified too fast. There is currently a shortage of electric locomotives. We are working on it. We want from a 38% electrified network in 2015 to almost 85% electrified as of now.

      there are sections in-between the route where electrical work is in progress..besides there is a good stock of Diesel loco which are in good condition.

    Indian Railways is mainly used by poor people such as labor folks that travel from poorer states to the richer states and older, village pilgrims. That is why you don’t see much first AC sleepers. Plus as you experienced, IR trains are mostly slow crawling at an average speed of 52 kmph. Most middle class folks take planes for quick travel. Some new semi HSR and HSR are luring middle class travelers. Time will tell how successful these become.

    • @deepakbusiness2672
      @deepakbusiness2672 Год назад +5

      Most Indians never appreciate their own country's countryside and prefer, if they can afford, to travel by plane. Indians do not understand that aeroplanes are much more polluting and wasteful especially opening 59 new aeroports. They think it is advancement!
