Your videos are the best, no music, no voiceover just the ambient train sounds and subtitles are definitely the way to go. I've seen other film makers who I can't name because RUclips censors that sort of thing and they won't shut up and their musical taste is awful and it ruins the film. Keep up the good work and thanks.

Another excellent video of a great railway journey! I much prefer the original train sounds and will not watch videos with a music soundtrack. This channel is still the best of the YT train travel channels. The quality and editing of the video and the focus on the journey without a bunch of distracting annoyances to break the flow is what makes it stand out. There are some newer channels that have decent production quality and editing skills but they are too much copies of one another with the same "chatter" (on every single video!) about seat pitch and toilets and frequent interruptions asking for subscribers/sponsors. Better to do one unique video every 1-2 months rather than weekly videos that all blend into each other. But that's just my perspective. Thanks for sharing your journeys with us!

Great video, I really enjoyed it. Your video brought back some memories of when I took this trip. It was on SJ a some years ago in the middle of winter. Gothenburg via Stockholm with a change of trains along the way, or some additional cars added to ours, I don't remember which but it was just a short wait. No restaurant car, but a decent cold breakfast in the morning also had a an on suite bathroom with shower. I believe we arrived in Narvik in the early evening. I would love to do it again as the scenery was great especially with the snow.

I did the trip in 1990, with a totally silent sleeper to Boden. All SJ back then. I started my trip in Copenhagen and spent three hours in Stockholm with an old pal before leaving.
I had my own coach (not just acompartment), working on my laptop and listening to the BBC on the long wave all the way from Kiruna almost Narvik. Bus to Tromsø at 100 km/h on packed-ice roads.

Think I prefer how you present the channel atm, with the railway sounds, and added text descriptions. Altho, that might not be the best way to grow your channel. With narration a lot depends on the presenters talking skills etc and keeping the viewers interested. Think you'd need to be a really confident and friendly speaker for that. So whatever you choose 👍
As an aside, really like those RC6 locos with the black/silver SJ livery. Reckon that gets into my top 5 locos 😉

We are taking this train to Narvik in a couple of weeks, so this is not only great to watch, but is also very informative. I’ll have my son with me, so we’ll need to prep snacks 😄
A quick update: we are on the train 94 right now (March 14, 2023), just passed the arctic circle. I woke up when we stopped to separate the cars traveling to Lulea this morning (along with the restaurant). We later found out that a coffee station was attached in its place offering coffee, juices, breakfast sandwiches and other snacks.
The sites are gorgeous. We are in the private sleeping compartment and I think this is the best option when you are traveling as a couple or general people who know each other. I’ve noticed that many people from 6-sleeper compartments have to sit in the hallway to have privacy. Not very comfortable, so would not recommend unless you know all 5 other people traveling with you.

Now I may not have ridden it myself but I regularly chat with people who live in Luleå and Kiruna and if their words are anything to go by, the switch from SJ to VY has been a huge downgrade. Ever since then the cleanlines has become quite bad most of the time, punctuality and service gone way down and prices hiked up a ton. During the SJ days there were also another dining car between Luleå and Narvik. IIRC the prices for a sleeper cabin all the way from Stockholm to Narvik back in the SJ days was just around 80 euros!

Hi, just to comment on the question towards the end of the video, regarding music/sounds/narration - I think a lot of travel videos are ruined by a poor choice of soundtrack, so I definitely prefer these train videos without music - without music makes for much more relaxing viewing. Sometimes the wind sounds are quite loud, but maybe it's a lot of work to edit them out. The "original" train sounds are enjoyable. I wouldn't mind narration, but the subtitles are fine too and are probably more informative. Thanks for great content!
