The pick ups were more rewarding to repair. Learned just enough to get by. Would love to daily drive an old vehicle again, too expensive to let the winter salt get to them nowadays. She'll still run but there ain't much left of it.😢
Got a minty 85 ranger that always runs I paid 1500 bucks for and drove it 620 miles home. Carbed with 4x4 and the 5 speed. Truck has been loyal as hell for the 6 months I’ve owned it. It has hauled my loaded wood dump trailer, gotten me to work, and towed around my other minty derelicts in the yard. I get 21 mpg and it loves the ketchup. Carb trucks can be very reliable.
@@tuckersautter1832 normally daily driven carb motors are pretty reliable, it’s the ones that have sat a while that will fight you. 9/10 the accelerator pump will be stuck tight or plugged up on something that has sat a few years or more. The old diesels can sit for decades and as long as the injection pump still pumps it’ll run, and they’ll run on about anything.

Something else GM that works great on a ford besides the SI alternators is the GM four prong HEI module instead of those duraspark boxes. They play real nice with the duraspark distributor & run trouble free.

But you could NOT get that truck stuck with those tires... within reason. 340k miles, it finally spun a bearing..

48:40 the two decompression cylinders are the only thing that let it to be able to cold start in -55*f. its an intentional extra duration bump in the exhaust lobe on the cam shaft that partly opens the exhaust valve as the cylinder compresses... when the engine is running, the oil pushes out of the lifters preventing the valve from opening 2mm to decompress the cylinders... that engine has 6 or 7 collapse lifters "the spring in the lifter that holds the push rod up, collapsed = broken lifter springs".
