Every time you use the starter, it fills up with chooch, getting stuck in engagement allowed all those years of chooching to flow back out making it into a stereo-burner five-hundy.
Just mint Peg. The starter motor will act as a generator when turned faster than ii’s rated speed. More voltage would allow more current to flow hence why the fuses blew. All the best.

I always loved the dashes on that era of dodge trucks. The glove box door folded down and there was a flat spot that was perfect for spinning up lefties 👍🤣
Back in the 80s. My dad had to drive a Dodge. About the same year model. He still refers to it as "that peice of shit" . Gasser with no power steering. And somebody welded and extra 3ft to the side boards. It would Shit a u joint. About 2-3 times a year. Drivers side door latch was broke. He used a bunji cord to keep it shut. He was the only one there. Who had the upper body strength to steer it. Next day. He said his arms felt like they were being ripped from the sockets. He blames his shoulder pains on that dodge.

Hey peg, I’m a heavy duty mechanic and I’m just in my second year here learning about starters, a starter can become a generator if spun by the engine by having the armature produce magnetism and feed back into the magnets and out the brushes into the celenoid, it’s the same reason why when you first giver on the starter she takes a bunch of amps but once she gets spinnin it draws less because the starter actually produces some of its own power to run and draws less of a load on battery, it’s called CEMF or “ counter electromagnetic force “ Starters are supposed to have some sort of clutch on the end of the drive gear there to stop that from happening but not all do, hope that helps, thanks for the minty vids 🤘

You can hook the battery cable from the starter, and the battery cable from the Battery on the same post. Then run a new wire from the other post, down to the starter for your exciter wire.

The starter became a generator and between it and your battery, it put 24 volts into your system. The brakes on your brand new, used dumb truck may work better if the front reservoir of the master cylinder is dry. If it has fluid in it and nowhere for the fluid to go, it will pressure up the brake pedal before the back master cylinder has enough stroke to pressure up the slave cylinders at the wheels. Or not. What do I know, I'm still a pert, got a ways to go before I'm an x-pert.

Down here in Georgia I know guys who use leaves as stencils when getting a nice new rattle can paint scheme. Usually done with palm leaves, and oak and such. Im sure maple would work. Great for a new paint scheme on your favorite synthetic stock hole puncher.

Yes, I have worked on a Terberg yard tractor powered by a 6.7 Cummins. It had some electical issues and when it was raining the starter engaged at random, while turned off, stationary or while driving. When it happened while driving it would make around 30v/32v instead of the standard 24v. So for sure, the starter can become a alternator.
The starter working as a generator with no voltage regulation is hilarious. If the one way bearing thing in there is seized up I wouldn’t doubt that’s what happened 😆🍻
