I’m 20 and whenever my family (12 people) go on vacation we always take the train. You meet so many people and see so many things you otherwise wouldn’t. But I will say if you’re going longer than a day a sleeper car is a MUST
I went from Denmark to Rome (Italy) in 1994 as a school trip. It was a 37 hour train ride, mostly due to the many stops and like yours that other/faster trains had to pass so on to a side track waiting and then moving again. Especially the Alps was a beautiful sight. For two days after the trip, I had the sound and motion of the train in my body, it was very strange. Very beautiful video that shows the ever changing landscape in America. You should do the same trip in Europe, that would be awesome.
IMO< having taken Amtrak a few times between Colorado, Arizona and California, my biggest gripe is the lack of general maintenance on the trains. Your video confirms what I've experienced. It's the little things that make the difference in a pleasurable trip vs a tolerant trip.
@20:32 the expression on London's face reminded me of my childhood I used to hate my parents when they say "waaaake-uuuup, time for school" But when they say "today we are taking you to your grandparents, you have to skip school for 2 days", they become my best friends for those 2 days 😃😂
The coolest part of this trip is watching you with your daughter one-on-one for 50 hours. I was about her age the first time that I was one-on-one with my dad for an extended time, and it was huge in my life. One on one time (no sibling, no spouse) after 12 is so critical.
I live in Eagle Colorado witch is 23 minutes away from Glenwood springs. When I saw that you stopped there I felt so happy to share our beautiful home with you
Hey! You're in my neck of the woods! Hope you like the cold SF bay area breeze. Love the contents that you make on the main and the family channels, wishing you and your crew nothing but continued success.
Over the summer I rode the Zepher, you guys had the same conductor for the first part of the ride. There is a room bigger that sleeps 4, 2 Adults and 2 Children. The appetizers are not to good but everything else is ok, my favorite foods were, The French toast, the Mac and Cheese, and the Rigatoni. Nice video!
In the older, "Heritage" car fleet that Amtrak used to use on the East Coast up to maybe 25 years ago, not only the showers but the toilets as well dumped right onto the tracks. There used to be a sign in the bathrooms asking people not to flush while the train was at a station.
In fact it is called Grand junction because there is a junction between the Colorado and Arkansas River. But it continues to be the Colorado going through Utah, Arizona, Nevada, and California
I took Amtrak on the Northeastern from DC to Richmond then Richmond back to Connecticut for a friends wedding in 2018. It was really nice having the views and relatively easy. Although I personally like the freedom of driving, it was good to not have to worry about traffic
As someone who lives along the Northeast Corridor I take Amtrak whenever I go to Washington DC. Super convenient and far less stressful and CHEAPER than flying. A flight from New York to Washington DC is an hour or less and I don’t want to have to go through security for an hour long flight. From New York Penn Station to Washington Union Station is 3 hours and 30 minutes. There’s no meals on the Northeast Regional trains so you have to bring your own food. They do have cafe cars where you can buy coffee and snacks.
I probably wouldn’t use the train for transport but I would love to go on it for the experience. Even if most of it is lack luster. At least the beautiful landscapes make up for it.
Amtrak is just to slow here were I live the train is overthinking everything on the road at 120mph. The train brings you to the center of town no problem parking plus you can do work on the train. And don’t have to drive.
I took this train back on sept 1st from Chicago to Emeryville. I was only able to do the roomette but it was also me. Wait until you get to western Nebraska.
Took a train from Harrisburg, Pa to Philadelphia, Pa when I was 10 or 11. I've been a Pa resident all my life, but man you fall asleep so easily though
I think you missed an opportunity to make What’s Inside videos with London while she was the same age as Lincoln. Lincoln is growing up and is busy with sports and school. He can always come back when he is not busy but you should make more content with London.
I rode the Texas Eagle and it was much better in all categories. Food was excellent and fresh. Service was amazing. Delays are normal and ours was only 3 hours
I took the train w my mom when I was 15 and it was amazing I wouldn't of omitted it then, but I do now! And loved it, from Denver Colorado to San Fran, what a trip! Welcome back any time to Colorado inside family !! W out the 🐻 butts bahaha! Why do people do that 😂🤦🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️
That is the decades-old model of sleeper car. In my experience they are really beat up. The newer rolling stock they are in the process of replacing these with is supposedly much nicer.
Hey Dan, I just did the sleeper from NYC to Chicago and that was 24 hours. also Made a YT Vid, IT's an adventure at first for sure. But Bless you for such a long trip with your Daughter. Gotta Ask though, Would you do it again??? LOL
man $2500 for a 50 hour trip vs like a 200$ 3 hour plane ride, and the train has gov subsidies too. starting to understand why high speed rails never took off in the US
When a train goes by the conductor goes outside to watch the train go by to make sure there is nothing wrong with the train going by such as stuck brakes or anything hanging off the train.
I turn 65 next summer and plan to celebrate with an Amtrak trip to see my favorite a cappella group around that time. (No dates or destination yet; that depends on when their summer tour is announced -- sometime in February or March maybe...I'm hoping -- and for when I can get a 1st tier VIP ticket.) Not counting an hour long ride in coach last month (since Greyhound stiffed me on the aborted trip a couple months ago by not showing up at all) this will be my first ride on Amtrak. It's videos like this that prepare me and let me know what I'm going to need, what I can't bring due to time or space, and how much time to give myself getting to where ever and whenever Home Free may be in the tentative 2-week window around THE DAY. One lesson learned here: don't count on it when the schedule states a hour or hour and a half wait between trains if it takes 2 or 3 trains to get there. Thanks to you, father and daughter, for all the helpful info.
Such a fun way to travel! Glad you got to do this with your daughter. I love traveling with family. Cheers!
ikr
DownieLive travels by train! (i watched all of the episodes btw, keep it up)
Your videos are awesome!!
Love the videos!
yo downie
being a European and watching you exploring the magical insights of a train is like watching tribal people visiting a sushi bar for the first time :D
😂 emotional damage 😂
Being tribal people is so good, pure happiness 😊
yeah same dude, I’m an Indian and I’m travelling in these kinds of trains for like the past 20-25 years
As a fellow European, I can confirm. I must admit our trains are much better than that shown in this video.
yes but then a very bad version of passenger trains. Amtrak is just so horrible compared to European trains
I’m 20 and whenever my family (12 people) go on vacation we always take the train. You meet so many people and see so many things you otherwise wouldn’t. But I will say if you’re going longer than a day a sleeper car is a MUST
Great father/daughter trip video! I think everyone should ride a train at least once in their lifetime. Truly a great and relaxing experience!

I do enjoy your videos but this was even more fun than usual!
Thank you for letting us live vicariously through your camera lens.
As a Railfan, I was waiting for videos like this to emerge on this channel. Glad you guys enjoyed it!
I live in Eagle Colorado witch is 23 minutes away from Glenwood springs. When I saw that you stopped there I felt so happy to share our beautiful home with you
the fact that LONDON was with u this time, 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻. Jst love watching her grow up from ababy LONDON to were she is now!
Keep it up Dan I love your videos and entertainment ! The people of Colorado not afraid to show it!
That looks like the train ride of dreams, the west coast is beautiful! Much prefer mountains and desert to plains and farmland out here in Illinois
Now I've lived out here in California for 5 months...and I do not miss the farmland!
Hey! You're in my neck of the woods! Hope you like the cold SF bay area breeze. Love the contents that you make on the main and the family channels, wishing you and your crew nothing but continued success.
That is one of the best videos you have ever made!👍🏼
Loved this video. I really enjoy watching videos you do with London. 🥰
The next Robert Plant! You go man. Really enjoyed your video.
Lol the mooning ... thought that went out in the 90s or maybe that's just when I stopped doing it 😂
Over the summer I rode the Zepher, you guys had the same conductor for the first part of the ride. There is a room bigger that sleeps 4, 2 Adults and 2 Children. was so wholesome how the guy said "mom I made it! I'm on TV!!" haha
Love that new Swedish hat you been wearing for a couple of vids. Love your family and wish you all the best for the new year from Sweden 🤗

Lol 😂
Go to France and this is still a thing and if you look at the track in a train station it’s full of toilet paper.
There still is a sign in the bathroom that says prohibited to use the restroom when train is at the station.
1:44 lol. The subtitle said "London's father"
13:50 The reason you can’t see anything in the night is: because the lights in the train are on your eyes can not get used to the dark
In fact it is called Grand junction because there is a junction between the Colorado and Arkansas River. But it continues to be the Colorado going through Utah, Arizona, Nevada, and California

London has grown so much
London definitely needs to make it on more episodes. She’s too cute!
I think it’s so cool how special the Mississippi was to y’all. I live near Baton Rouge, Louisiana and cross the Mississippi all the time.
We've crossed the country in both kinds of sleeper rooms for years. The smaller room does actually have a toilet that folds open.
Mr Dan you have some awesome kids. Love your channel keep up the good work.

Absolutely brilliant review. Still laughing at all the bare bums, haha
Look it up on google, called Moon River, tradition on the Zephyr maybe not during winter time though.
Dad and London do always the best trips 12/10

You should've pranked Leslie. London calling her saying she got left by the train. Lol
I like the entire trip that you guys made it to SF! And also did you guys made to 'Vegas? Love the content! Keep it up!
Wow thats such a nice experience for sure its worth 2,500 dollars I take Brightline from Miami usually but this is a whole different experience
I've never been this early. Ever. I love train travel videos, so I'm excited!
This is awesome! Also, Ottumwa is close to where I live, how cool.
I feel like it was a missed opportunity to not put a black censor bar on the dog’s bare bottom as well 😂
From 21:57 - 22:34 is in the town where I live, Benicia. So weird to see my small town in a video.
My Grama lived there
The Timelapse of the guy making the bed made me think of Casey Neistats plane videos, Great job
Haven’t visited this channel since 2017
Welcome to RUclips, London! 😀
I took this train back on sept 1st from Chicago to Emeryville. I was only able to do the roomette but it was also me. Wait until you get to western Nebraska.
I love this video! I always wondered about doing this sort of a trip. Thank you!
@WHAT'S INSIDE? FAMILY love the videos you guys, keep it up
Welcome to San Fran! Hope I get to see you!
Took a train from Harrisburg, Pa to Philadelphia, Pa when I was 10 or 11. I've been a Pa resident all my life, but man you fall asleep so easily though

Very cool. We have talked about doing this many times because I'm afraid to fly .
Well though technically planes are many times safer than car so if you consider that there ain't a reason to be scared
I rode the Texas Eagle and it was much better in all categories. Food was excellent and fresh. Service was amazing. Delays are normal and ours was only 3 hours
You should try the Rocky Mountaineer
I’m jealous! I’ve gone across Britain on a train but not the US.
What a journey, amazing video!
I took the train w my mom when I was 15 and it was amazing I wouldn't of omitted it then, but I do now! And loved it, from Denver Colorado to San Fran, what a trip! Welcome back any time to Colorado inside family !! W out the 🐻 butts bahaha! Why do people do that 😂🤦🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️
When will the what’s inside backpack be back in stock

OML The bums thing is so dang funny
Look up Moon River fir Amtrak. You will know how it started.
5:38 Take heed to that
The blueberry cheese cake rocks!!!
Great video as always
I stayed in a similar sleeper room when my family and I took the auto train from Maryland to Florida to visit some family that live in Florida.
When i saw the broken table I said 'Fix it Dan' but then I remembered you don't fix things you break things.
Sick!!! I really want to ride on a sleeper.
ah good ole Amtrak.
Emeryville,California. Where Pixar Animation Studios is located.😉
I haven't seen London in a while
Let’s talk about how Dan wanted his steak well done bro
Did y'all feel a relief when you set foot on solid ground after the moving and rolling train?
"yahoo" how dare you sir!
7:24 7:28 Skittles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!😁😁
You should do the Coast Starlight....same if not better views from Seattle to LA
I love your videos ❤❤❤
As a European this is very weird to watch. Flying to get on a train!? And just being completely obsssed with how trains work and look
Come to India and try such trains here. More lively and fun. Clean if you spend the right amount.
man $2500 for a 50 hour trip vs like a 200$ 3 hour plane ride, and the train has gov subsidies too. starting to understand why high speed rails never took off in the US
Awesome trip ❤️
Bear season not bear butts😂🤣
18:56 It’s YooHoo, not YaHoo. lol
It looks fun
You have to visit Europe the trains here are way more modern: silent (electrical), bigger windows, cheaper, more flexibility,...
These trains look extremely outdated after riding the trains in Europe this summer.
Because they are. The only trains the US cares about is freight trains. It's a shame.
Incredible 💯
In India u can get 5 star train roon in just 700 dollar and u get a king size bed and full meal pack breakfast , lunch , dinner
Did you have electricity?
When a train goes by the conductor goes outside to watch the train go by to make sure there is nothing wrong with the train going by such as stuck brakes or anything hanging off the train.
6:07 yeah probably not safe as i heard from some sources that that space is often designed to crumple first in a train crash?
Hey Einstein what do you think will happen in a plane crash.
If you booked a plane ticket expecting to make a few hour connection with a multi day train and miss that is on you 😂
I turn 65 next summer and plan to celebrate with an Amtrak trip to see my favorite a cappella group around that time. 12 HOURS AGO I THOUGHT THIS WAS 2 YEARS AGO!😂😂
You should take Lincoln on the Empire Builder this winter.
3:52 haha I hope that wasn't intentional!!!
