- For this week's #FeatureFriday follow Ernie Doeden as he shows you how to go from hands-free shifting to performance style manual shifting at the push of a button. This video demonstrates how to use your Selectshift Automatic transmission.
Finally a video that explains my shifter. thank you
Glad it helped!
I always use Shift mode to avoid any transmission issues, since if my car running for about 30mins, my D or Sport mode is acting weird, using shift mode +/- solve my issues for long drive... and to avoid stress on my TCM and actuators or shifting irregularly
Would have been better if Ford just installed Paddle shifters, more easy to use and both hands are on the steering wheel all the time while shifting.
My 2017 Escape SE does
Just install them yourself
I thought I had paddle shifters until I clicked it and the fucking voice assistant came on 😭
My 2017 has them
My 2017 titanium ford fusion has them
S can both user for sportmode and shift mode. As I understand at S position: as the time I press + or - button the car will turn into shift mode - so how can the car return to Sport mode from Shift mode? does driver need to shift back to D and back to S to return to Sport mode?
Yes
I'm a first timer in automatic car and I have FORD titanium 2.2 just ask can I put to S mode to start my car (not in motion)
Hey Guy, anyone ever tell you that you sound like a used car salesman! I just had to. You are awesome! I am exhausted. I have been trying to decode my new car. You are easy to hear. Droped the BS of it all and got straight down to the brass tacks. I just want to buy a car from you now!

Thanks Ernie!
So if you start having problems with your automatic transmission (gears slipping etc.) will sport mode still work? In other words if my transmission goes out or if the car goes into limp mode can I use sport mode to keep driving so I can get myself home and not be stranded on the side of the road?
Good question I wanna know also
@@roxanneiamawake4311 ... Unfortunately I found the answer to that question is no. My car would not allow me to switch into sport mode. I moved the lever to the "S" but it stayed in Drive. My advice is if you start having slippage or any other transmission problem to get off the road as quickly as possible and get your car to a shop ASAP
If the gears slip and the engine light turns on, SelectShift will not work. Any time the engine light turns on, sport mode will not work at all.
@@RealJaybeeMusic Not true at all my engine light be on for a while and i still drive in sportsmode
@@keontemorris5200 Oh I see, maybe if the issue is transmission related it won't let you, idk. When my transmission failed, I had to pop it in neutral and back in drive to trick the TCM to shift to the right gear because the SelectShift buttons wouldnt work at all.
I have a question sir,is it possible to shift to Sport Mode while vehicle is running at Drive mode or you need a full stop before you shift to S? appreciate your response
Hey Cy, great question! Yes, you can shift into sport mode while the vehicle is in drive mode. Thanks!
@@BillColwellFord Thanks very much sir..
Hi, thanks for your information. I have a question, can we change from sport mode ro drive while moving and vice versa? Is there any procedure to to shift from drive to sport and sport to drive.
Seeking your advice. Thanks
You can do it while the car is moving from s to d or d to s. The guy responded on a diff comment
am using ford focus 2012 but the engine is fiesta engine 1.6L duratec Ti-VCT(123PS) - sigma . I had problem with my gear box and my mechanic changed the fork and everything is ok but i still hear some noise when its changing back to 2nd or 1st gear
can u help me out with it
Question ? Does dri ing in sport mode bpass the start/stop debacle ?
Do you have to shift while on the S/sport gear or will it shift on its own like normal automatic driving?
I really need to know this lmao
@@Goose1162late comment but if you go into Sport mode without pressing any side buttons the car will automatically shift gears but if you press any of the side buttons on the shifter it will go to sport manual btw it’s much quicker 😅
What if you have a 2015 Explorer Sport with Paddles and instead of "S", there is an "M". Can you drive in M or Manual mode and not use the paddles?
So let’s see if I understand this I can put it in sport mode n not manually shift it it’ll still shift itself
From watching this and another S mode explanation video, it seems to be a higher rev automatic, until you use the +/-, at which point it becomes semi-manual. If the RPMs get too high or too low, it'll still automatically change gears.
If you're in manual S mode and forget, will it automatically change gears if needed?
It does in my 2014 mustang
Thank you
I have a 2011 ford fusion SEL, but in my gear shifter it has M, I suspect it to be manual but not sure as there is no way to shift up or down. Could someone give explanation?
There is no button on the stick or paddle shifters behind the wheel?
Let me see if i got this str8. I can shift to "S" from "D" while driving, and while in "S" mode, I can either drive normally, OR I can use my paddle shifters? (my Mustang has them). I can do either or...and the engine will adapt?
Yes because all your doing is telling the engine that when you tap the paddle shift it will change the gear and sports mode works because it lets your car rev way higher than usual which helps with performance
can you shift D to S while moving
Try it..see what's happens 🫨😅
😘 thank you
Awesome....thanks
What happens if you're in sports mode and you click the + - and then you forget to upshift or downshift will that ruin the engine.I have a 2019 Ford ranger. I did that in the engine went nuts made a big loud sound.
My camaro will upshift or downshift as needed if u forget to change the gear yourself
@@Itshaysus what year?
Thats what's safer about having an automatic, itll shift when it needs to to protect itself
@@dxddyminato3145 2017
👍👍👍
In other words, transmissions have so many gears that you can't put 1 through Drive like you use to do. Guessing if you did, your shifter would have to move a foot to do so.
Is it possible to drive in s mode like you would in d mode ( without manually shifting ) and would it auto find correct gear without hitting the vehicle in any way
Have any answers for this by now?
@@markjaramillo4535 yes, mactford is a great group on fb I have joined. You can drive in s just like you would drive in d ( without manually shifting ) the only thing that changes is the throttle response, rpms and shift timing that is all automated ( if you let it )
@@Jason22Douce thanks man
@@markjaramillo4535 you're welcome
@@Jason22Douce I have a 2016 Fusion SE. If I have it in auto and it immediately goes into auto shift for “Sport”. How would I get it to go back into auto shifting for Sport if I push the button to make it go up one gear?
Mines a L
You can change the low gear into a sports button through software using a laptop and a forscan tool
But which is the best to use on these shitty transmissions
Thanks Ernie!
