Every time I watch this scene it's the same thing: I look forward to the moment when Lorelai yells at Emily (because she deserves it) and once that happens I feel terrible.
Okay yeah she does. But hear me out, it was hard for her (Emily) to go to luke in the first place but she did. She still deserved the monologue because as lorelai said, just because they dound a way to fix the damage dosen't erase the fact that it happend.
Emily keeps saying that Lorelei takes her life "to a completely disastrous path", meanwhile Lorelei finished Business School, started her own business (Dragonfly Inn), raised a normal well adjusted daughter, has tons of friends and a hot down to earth decent man and is happy (sure, she has her ups and downs like all of us, but she's fulfilled). By contrast, Emily is a profoundly unhappy housewife, bored to her wits, with no real friends and a cold husband, who gets a kick out of putting her own daughter down, (tho her daughter has succeeded way better in life than her) and is envious of the special relationship Lorelei has with her own daughter. Yet she comes and screams in a diner like a maniac, insulting a man who has done nothing to her and owes nothing to her, who owns his own business, when everything she has is because she married well. Shes got some nerve screaming at people like that to immediately get back with her daughter when she's the one who broke it by that appalling behaviour at her party. If I had a mother like that I would definitely stop speaking to her and no money in the world could convince me to visit her.
@@wall47291 yes we get it, your mom would've slapped you. Which is toxic and damaging by the way. Emily is emotionally abusive and narcisstic and nothing is ever her fault. No wonder Lorelei snipped.

All I’m going to say is that eventually Luke and Lorelai would have gotten back together but Emily initiated that spark so she is the reason why they are where they are right now
I hate how Luke was kind of dishonest about the reason he went back to Lorelai, he clearly went back after Emily told him to. It was her dysfunctional form of giving her blessing but clearly family approval was important to him.
If was me, until my partner put an end to the mess, would do like Luke. Too much drama and to harsh knowing that any moment, someone could get into my relationship.
This was a really weird time for Lorelai and Rory and very out of character. It wasn't long before this that Lorelai was trying to get Rory to date more and Rory found out she didn't really like dating. But now Rory is dating and Lorelai doesn't like it?
It is the way that she is dating. I think that Lorelai thought that Rory was sleeping around, because she knew that Rory was still sleeping with Logan. So I think she meant sleeping around girl is not Rory. When Lorelai wanted Rory to date it was different because Rory was single, and even though she was going on dates, she was still single. Lorelai even says to Rory that she is not a “non-commitment kind of girl.”
This is probably the only time that the show ever acknowledged that Lorelai and Rory eating junk all the time, doing zero exercise and looking the way they looked was not realistic at all.
I don’t understand why does Lorelai say that Rory’s on her own? She’s not even 21 yet, she doesn’t have a job, so I assume Lorelai gives her money to buy food, clothes etc. She doesn’t have her own place to live either, so she has to come home to Lorelai when she’s not in college.
