  • I've known for a while that they have been ripped out, but last time I couldn't really be bothered to ride them - I was kind of sad tbh (NOT REALLY!!! LOL, well not 'that' sad anyway).
    We are back to do a video comparison between new and old. DAMN I MISS THE OLD SOUNDS!!

    There was a set of 3 lifts in a college campus I used to attend. They were recently modernised. Before the 'upgrade', there was one lift in particular, whose doors would open completely upon arriving, whilst the car was not quite level. Then, as you were in mid stride to exit or enter the car, it would suddenly drop half an inch or more to level. Did it almost every time... Really wish I'd filmed it now. Haven't found anything like it on RUclips yet - though I love your videos all the same. :)

    I think it would be nice if they could keep those small windows in the doors, I guess they have to remove them due to vandals I expect.

    Interesting comparison video. As much as I hate to say it, I feel that at some point it becomes impractical for many extant lift companies to obtain and stock old components, and to properly maintain the awesome vintage lifts. It's a good thing there are still countries in Europe, Scandinavia to be specific, who still maintain, and value their vintage lifts.

Interesting that the new lifts are now faster than the old ones, and that chime heard on the top floor sounds very similar to SIGMA (Korean brand, a subsidiary of Otis Korea) lifts in Asia. Oh yes, I was afraid of (old) lifts too as I was younger, mostly because of the sounds and because I had nightmares after getting stuck once. Yeah, I was way younger then and thinking sometimes you're getting stuck forever (idk why but yes). But since I already got stuck about 4 times in the last few years I don't care anymore to be honest. I actually have a question - what about you? Did you got stuck like .. ever?

    Think that new lifts have no character? I found a 2004 Schindler service lift that had a red call fixture, a loud motor and squeaks as it jolts as the doors open. The car is dimly lit, there is no mirror and it rattles around in the shaft and makes scary shaft noises

      Me too! People today do not appreciate the type of lifts that we were once forced to use in the 80s/90s. They were noisy, abrupt, dark, spooky, smelly and made all the noises that you can hear in this video. I used to call them coffin lifts, because that's what they resembled! There is also another video ruclips.net/video/A_AvssH713E/видео.html which is from here, filmed with a semi-decent camera before they were modernised.

      half the scaryness of the old 70s and 80ss lifts Matt. Was the anticipation of who was lurking outside waiting to get in. I grew up in Woolwich. The lifts were scary as f...I got over my phobia when i ran away for a night in my stockinged feet and walked all the way just outside greenwich. Slipped inside a tower block. Got to the top floor and tried to crash in the stairwell. Then at 1am the drunks are coming back and using the lifts and you hear the motors whirr up and down. I got used to the noise. And thought "FGS Darren. Its only a piece of machinery" had to walk back home cos the feds at greenwich nick wouldnt take me home in a panda "out of our jurasdiction"been unscaredof lifts since. But i do feel the anxiety when i see a lift vid. And imagine my younger self and how little me was so terrified.

      I used to use Pinnacle Studio 18, although it was easy and quick to use, it was also "buggy". One of my videos took 2 weeks to edit, then ANOTHER 2 weeks to export as it kept crashing when exporting all the layer I had made.
      I've been using Adobe Premiere for quite a long time now. It also works alongside Adobe After Effects, so anything extra special (like motion tracking) you can create the project in After Effects, then add it directly to the timeline in Adobe Premiere. Very powerful software! Also, anything done in Photoshop can also be imported into Premier, even individual layers which is how I do my animation videos like this one... ruclips.net/video/QbNyQLSwLXY/видео.html
      All done in photoshop, then the layers were added into Premier.

      +Tiago Costa I think the same with the elevators in the US bleeping when the pass each floor. I can see why but they don't do that over here.
      I cannot see the point of the "doors closing" and "doors closing" announcements. Must be something like 0.001% of the people that use the lift would actually benefit from being told the obvious. The floor announcements could be useful but i observe most people and when it says "2nd floor " they instinctively look at the floor display anyway (I do it and i think its the same for most people).
      My conclusion is that they can charge more money for the lift with the the hardware and commissioning that goes into the announcements.

    • @miaugato93
      @miaugato93 7 лет назад

      more common even here is to have a ding dong when the doors open and outside when the lift arrives, and that makes more sense to me. and even that is a bit rare. I love it though, even the digital ones. I for one like early digital lifts (not the modern super-smooth ones, i'm talking Otis Series 1, early basic Gen2's, and everything similar. For me, it's the only "modern" gen lifts to look for. Ofc for motor-room visits they're not very good, but the spookyness of the cab is there (people here can be quite lax when it comes to maintenance, only when it becomes dangerous do people fix/modernise the lifts)

      Yes, I was half expecting to find one as well - with the rotary floor selector rather than just the carriage. I suppose there are a few reasons - 1) the noise it would make with the flats just below, 2) more maintenance and electricity, 3) speed was not classed as a priority.

      I wonder how Mitsubitshi does it. I bet/guess they probably use some old 8 bit speech synthesis chip from the likes of NEC, OKI or Richoc. The kind of pcm chip that arcade machines used in the 80's and early 90's. Mitsubitshi make or have made some of their own chips like intel 8085 clones. • @mrmattandmrchay
      @mrmattandmrchay  6 лет назад

      When I do planned visits, I take both cameras and record using both at the same time. When I edit, I can cut to which-ever camera is giving the best view at the time. Each camera has it's own qualities. My normal camera's image (light and colour) qualities are better but no good in confined spaces. I find that the action camera with the wide angle lens gives the best view. If you didn't have the fisheye , then the camera view would be more zoomed in and you wouldn't see so much of the view. Also, the action camera has mega-good stabilisation - the best on the market, which is why I bought it. So, fish eye means wider angle, you can see more than a normal lens would in this situation.

    • @ZZ9ProductionsOFFICIAL
      @ZZ9ProductionsOFFICIAL 6 лет назад

      While I know that having the fisheye is good for things like driving videos, I personally think it doesn't look right on elevator videos. That's just my opinion though.
