    I've just lost a Tech2 fin that was attached to the velcro style fin savers. Switched to the deluxe ones. When it's really cold and you've got 4-5mm gloves on the string is too tricky.

    Shoe laces every day of the week! I’m not ashamed to say it’s all about style, extra bulk around the ankle destroys the beauty of a crossed legged spin... same goes for socks or booties... I cant explain it, but the heel needs to be exposed for maximum style points. 😌 I did ‘ knot’ know about that quick release knot trick! Radicalisational stuff brother! 🤙🏽 yeeew!

    I prefer flat and wide shoe laces - less chafe. two loops around the ankle and a reef knot will make sure that it will never slip off. Untying can be tricky though when the hands are cold. Lost about 8 fins with the velcro fin savers, never tried the deluxe.

    I'm surprised you didn't mention a major difference - with the shoelace the fins will still come off your foot but dangle around. The fin savers on the other hand are designed so your fins don't come off your foot in the first place. For this reason, I think the fin savers are more likely to result in ankle injuries.

    • @iaincampbell_

    I personally like the to use the deluxe type because the shoe lace and other styles of fin tethers shoe lace/velcro type of tether came off on a big day after the lip landed on my fins and both fins came off. Luckily it didn’t get tangled while I was being held underwater that day, I would have had to untangle it while being held under. That is why I prefer the deluxe type of tether and so far so good :) Aloha from HI 🤙🏾

    I'm using delux for the same reason you don't, the S size is too small and the M is a little to big, but with a 1mm neoprene sock and Delux it's fits perfect, also if it's too cold, I can do the same with a L size and use a scuba dive sock to be able to have at least 5mm neoprene, specially in this situation the delux helps a lot, but as you said, it's too difficult to change between fins, so I always buy with the fin and never remove it, even when I'm retiring the fin, because if I need it for a friend, it's better to already be there.

      @Boogie Kook74, I have a wide foot and I use a pair of ML Freedom fins with a heel strap. Very comfy! I used to have a pair of Churchill Slashers, which were so comfy and suited DK well, but I left them at the beach after being chased out the water by a shark. Was so freaked out I left them in the car park along with my pants 😂

    Thanks Iain, I’ve seen those deluxe tethers and been wondering about them. Over the years I’ve had a lot of different tether methods and It has taken many years to find something that works for me; now I have a fin brand and size that works, with a separate heel strap pad ( the same pair for 15 years!) and the leash strap style tethers ( not ideal as it takes some time and it doesn’t actually keep the fins on your feet). Although because I’ve got the correct size fins they never come off. It’s like you say, find what works for you.
    Can you do a video on the different hull setups around these days; I’m in the market for a new board (possibly a DK spec) and with the myriad concaves/ quad channels/parallel channels and so on, I have no idea what actually works and what’s just a gimmick ( I’m remembering the Mach 8TX and it’s dimple bottom 🤣). How do they work with prone vs drop knee and such. Thanks dude, great content as always!

    • @iaincampbell_
      @iaincampbell_  3 года назад +1

      Hi. That’s exactly it. Whatever works for you is the best for you.
      When it comes to different rails, and hulls of the boards unfortunately I can’t make that video. Currently sniper only offer a normal channel system but hopefully there is something on the way soon in our 2022 range! Will keep you up to date as I know more and you can always watch the channel for extra things I have.

    Thanks for the video! I actually made something similar to those deluxe fin tethers by sewing some Velcro to an old Wetsuit I chopped up. I use a pair of symmetrical Custom-X fins, and the main benefit I have found is that the tethers prevent chafing around the ankles. However, I may look into buying a pair of these, mainly because they just look way cooler🤙
