One of the most important tips to know when you start or want to progress in bodyboarding. The elbow can drag so much water that you loose control and become blind because of the splashes. Great videos people should these tips in mind everytime they takeoff on a wave.
Been BB since 18, enjoy it so much but the opportunities don’t happen as much as I would like them to, held my own, never disrespected in the water, in my 60s now and knowing what adjustments to make will make it even more fun! Thank you!!
Im so glad i watched this, been learning a lot watching this series. Been riding since 7, im now 30, but never had someone teaching me, always learned by watching others riders and such. This video in particular helped me a lot in the bottom turn. Lately i've been riding bigger, steeper and powerfull waves, and i often lose my line and go sliding across the face of the wave, or not having enough speed, without understanding why, and i really tought my board had lost some of its performance. It turns out i was not positioning my hips correctly and not doing the correct weigth shift\distribuition along the ride. This helped so much, i've been getting so much air time and much more controlled rides since i watched this , can't thank you enough Ian. Keep it up and good rides 🤙🤙🤙
2:10 - I'm a 55 year old bodyboarder and surfing since 8. Fascinating as the older I get, the easier it is to get lazy and forget these fundamentals. My lead arm has just been resting in a more 'comfortable' slight-angle position and hand on nose of board. Just this morning I was more conscious of having my hand on the nose bulb as shown, while keeping my lead arm straight and bit more inside. Wouldn't you know it.. I had a stronger sensation of engaging my rail into the wave face, rather then just trimming along the wave. Big fan of yours Iain and appreciate these tips! Even for older blokes like me.
Iain... I found the best Bodyboarding for Me... The Safety of the Board on the Floor!!! No Fear of Me Ducking under the wave!! That paddle seems to be the Bestest!! Safety First 💫🌟😌🌟💫 Love You & Rosie... Love listening to Your Guidance to help the other Peeps Enjoy the Boogieboarding Experiences!! You're Awesome!! 💫🌟😌🌟💫
Man iain, what a great subject! I’ve made this mistake so many times. To no consequence mostly but in bigger surf, hand positioning is Uber important. For the most part 6ft is when this info becomes vital!
Great instructions, then again it's fantastic to see the diversity in style and the freedom to do it your own way. Main thing your having fun out in the surf. I see other riders with unique styles and I just accept and respect them for that and for doing it their own way. Rather than everybody riding the same looking like clones. However you want to ride that's cool. Sometimes you see a rider with what you perceive as a different style and wonder where they come from? How did they learn? From what era? Etc.... nevertheless cool instructions, very helpful.
Thanks Champ. Always giving back to the community! Also, if you imagine the positions your body was in when showing the hand positioning and you were covered in paint, then you should only be waxing the parts of the board that would be painted!
Not exactly. You don’t want to wax where your belly is. This stops you from being able to slide forward and backward. I explain this towards the end of the video.
@@iaincampbell_ Right. But I find that unless there's at least a thin layer of wax (like when the board is brand new) then it makes paddling hard since your chest will just slip. I think that's a bit higher than the belly, though. Just my two cents!
Oh my!!!! A SAFFA? Howdy China!! 🎉!¡ I've been basically "belly boarding" all my life, just recently taken up a surfing lesson in Costa Rica, tried paddling out into the big waves with the surfers here in Mrxico but found it intimidating. Instead I'm about to embark on a journey of improving my body boarding and sticking to what I know first. Thanks so much for your most informative videos! Lekker man!
which hand do you put in front? Does it depend on where you are on the wave or which is your dominant hand or is it something else? Also this video is helpful thanks.
It is the direction you want to go. Left hand forward when you want to go left. Right hand when you want to go right... Missed that step but that should make more sense now... Good luck 😉
Thanks Bro! Love your videos, they’ve really helped me find my groove. Is that board you’re demonstrating on a standard 1.9 PolyPro type board? My board doesn’t flex nearly that easily. I’m wondering if I’m riding too stiff of a board in Costa Rican tropical water.
Yes that’s a standard PP board. Single stringer but ridden in by yours truly… 😅 they get a little flexible the more you go at them. Warm water will do that to it too!
Thanks Ian Relatively new to body boarding , but had few days down fistral beach last summer love it there 👍 Something special about being in the sea , great place to clear your head . Hoping to go back this summer and try your advise , the position definitely doesn’t feel natural but you get used to it . Get but confused when some waves are kinda straight with the shore so no real going left or right lol Thanks again
Hi there 🤟, i am a BB beginner here in west Algarve and would like to know what is your suggestion about using wax con the BB.... actually my BB is still slippery as it is quite new but I feel that when paddling through waves I often fell off as is slippery. But i would like to know of wax is really necessary or not. Thanks for.your videos! I just subscribed 🌊
Welcome to the RUclips. Yes, wax is definitely necessary... I have done a video in the past and will link it here for you to see: ruclips.net/video/gc4kDbiG4ZI/видео.htmlsi=0sZm2fFfMGfiL7Ct
The best part about this video is the hand placement and elbow..I dropped in on a left in my earlier years of bodyboarding and my left elbow slipped off and into the face of the wave spinning me backwards and the barrel picking me up and back flopping and getting thrown on to the beach 😂😂😂🤙🤙 #staystoked

🤣🤣 keep that elbow locked on there!!
@@iaincampbell_ my boards all have that little elbow pocket in them now.
Somehow I end up with my elbow on the board in the right spot but my hand off the corner closer towards the middle. Arg!
Try the paddling technique! Will help get it in the right position.
