- The owner of a San Fernando Valley property dubbed a “hoarder house” and "junkyard" was denied her appeal Tuesday following recent inspections.

Hoarding is a symptom of a mental illness, which we dont' know how to deal with, as evidenced by the thousands of tents and homeless all over the state. If the owner won't or can't pony up the money for periodic clean outs, it's up to the city or county to have some sort of ordinance on the books that would allow them to go on private property and clean up. Tricky. And what city/county is going to pay for it, even if the owner was willing? And then, what do you do with the mentally ill person who lives there as they''ll just start all over again?
We have court mandated anger management, court mandated sober living/rehab... Hoarding needs to be treated with therapy as much as it does with contractor's trash bags. It would be cheaper for the state to do ONE clean out and then do a 51-50 hold but between the neglect that happens within mental health facilities and the unwillingness to admit this case or homelessness IS a mental health crisis... 🤷♂🤷♂ That's LA county for you.
I believe her son was making money by taking junk from other entities.

its private property... and likely no agency has a direct mandate / funding to go through and clear the stuff out. Most people are not this delusional... both mom and son are obviously mentally unwell. Who / which department is going to pay contractors to haul it out - pay dump fee's etc.

The mom admitted the son, who was the one living in this dump yard, WAS in fact a horder.
But the mom lives in La Canada or La Crescenta or one of those rich neighborhoods, and enabling the son to live like this.
She didn't want to be on camera when the reporter knocked on her door, and apparently she didn't even show up to this hearing.
They are just both complete weirdos, and deserve everything they got coming to them.
Doesn't matter if it's private property, when you're posing harm and inconveniencing your neighbors.
People just don't know how to live amongst each other.

It shows how the mental illness that people suffer from hoarding they becomes immune to the conditions of their homes looking like a mess inside and out it's an illness. It's sad
I think the problem is all with the son I'm sure she's not the one hauling in cars, tires, scrap metal and junk onto the property even though she owns it

Why did this take yrs.?? The owner should be made to pay for all the clean up. That's the only way she will comply. She can pay to file appeals and then doesn't even show up to court. 😢
This has been a problem in the East Valley for over 60 years.
Sun Valley has always been somewhat a junk yard.
I lived next door since the 1960's.
It is known as dump valley, all the land fills and metal recycling, in that area
You clean it up - you create more space for these people to put more junk.
In her defense, she thought it was okay because LA is trashed too.
The woman is 80 years old and probably needs assistance rather than ridicule.
Ridiculous how the few can get away with nonsense like this! What a waste of so many people’s time and resources! Same goes to the addicts camping out on the streets! When is it enough and how much longer will we allow these beings to waste our time and resources and trash our cities while more and more taxes are being directed to enable them to continue their bad habits?
That property is a fire hazard to the homes around it. Very dangerous situation.

It is their property, can can do what they want as long as it not illegal, the front of the property should be cleared up for fire access and emergency services but the rear is their responsibility alone and not the court system, the city will clean it up and hand the bill to the owner which they will not be able to pay and the city will land grab.
Did anyone offer to help her clean it up? Its a woman in her 80's, things get out of hand easily when youre that old. If the place is that much of a disaster then she probably lost the notice each time she got one and then forgot about it. I understand her property is a problem but shes 80, I really hope a team of people at least offered to help.

The WOMAN is the owner of the property, but she does NOT live there.
She lives in La Canada or La Crescenta, one of those areas.

Stop being so sympathetic. These are probably not the ones that deserve your sympathy.
I'd help by offering to help sell off this stuff. Lots of collector items. I did it before for an old couple and they made $ and people hauled out stuff for free after paying them and they used part of the profits to further clean the property and they made $ too. Everyone wins.🙏❤🇺🇸
There are literally hundreds of large property owners in the East Valley who have junk problems since before the 1960's. In the East Valley there are literally thousands of properties that have tires buried under them.

We are ready are paying billions of tax payer dollars to correct the problems, but the current government is just wasting the money by building and providing $650,000 per homeless person. Ask the construction workers who are building these units if their homes are this nice, You may be surprised at their answer.
I felt sorry for the Lady "in her 80's" until I saw the Video . get a Judges order to handle it then attach the Bill to the Owners property Tax . With Respect , it sounds like she needs help . Most people don't even live that Long .
