- We are constantly bombarded with the idea that flying business class is the ultimate and only way to truly enjoy flying. Airlines and reviewers never seem to consider if business class is of real value and if it makes any financial sense to the traveler. In this video, we look at the numbers so you can decide if business class makes any sense to you or whether you're simply being manipulated by airlines and the social media.
Very timely. We are looking at using miles to fly business to Vietnam. Tanya is adorable and you are a fabulous narrator. Thank you for the analysis!
Thank you, Cheryl. I don't know about me so much but Tanya is indeed adorable. Enjoy Vietnam!
A very interesting video and thank you for doing all the calculations. The surcharge for Business Class is insane! The airline certainly needs these wealthy guests to cross-subsidize the flight, but boy! Almost ten times the price of Economy Class. Wow.
Thanks for your comment. It really is amazing how much more business class is than economy or even premium economy. But, it must make sense financially for the airlines.
Premium economy is great for long haul flights, especially on BA. Tho if I can get business for a low price for a long haul flight with lie flat seat, then I’m in. Great job Tanya showcasing the amenities kit.
Thank you for commenting, Justina. Great points.
Great analysis, Jay. Something to think about while traveling long distances. We have found Premium Economy to be a good compromise.
Hi Sunny. Premium economy is what we usually do for long distances and economy if under 5 hours. Thank you for commenting.
$150/night would only pay for a room in a 3-star hotel in most major cities in Western Europe depending on the location and season. You should expect to pay between $500 and $750/night to stay in a 5-star hotel in a centrally located hotel in Western Europe. $150/night should be adequate to pay for a hotel room in a 4-star hotel in certain parts of Asia, Eastern Europe, and Central/Latin America where the cost of accommodation is, in general, much lower.
Thanks for your insightful comments. You're right that hotel costs can certainly exceed $150 per night based on stars, season and location. Thank you for watching.
We were flying from San Francisco to Turkiye and upgrade to business class was 1.500 per person. 3 thousands for both. Thats my 2 weeks salary, so I said no way 😃.
I think the best way to take business class is if you have enough miles and points built up. Otherwise, it's just not worth it. Thanks for commenting.
Tanya is so cute I can hardly stand it!
She is, isn't she? Thanks for commenting.
I’d rather take 10 trips. 😊
I’m with you.
