Thanks for the informative video Tina. I'll go with the Google one, but I really wish they used Python instead of R. I've used R briefly, and it's good. However Python is just so much more versatile and common in the industry that I find it odd that Google opted for R. Other than that, the Google certification seems to check off all the boxes.

Good analysis. I am working my way through the Google certificate because (ironically, even though Google offers more career development options) my goal isn't to become a data analyst. I'm just trying to fill in some holes in my knowledge/skill set so that I can do better at my current job, and my current company uses Tableau and BigQuery as the main tools in its data ecosystem. And, in a less directly job-related detail, I already know some basics of Python, but I've never worked with R, so I'm curious about it.
Just finished the Google Data Analytics program. Was worth it for a beginner level, learned a lot, though until I started learning about Tableau I can't say I felt I was learning anyhing new. By the time I finished the Capstone project, everything was in place.
It all comes down to the battle of the giants when it comes to visualization and languages. Google is moving hard into analytics, however, Power BI wins over Tableau when it comes to visualizing data. Also, a key factor is the language and in that battlefield definitely Python wins over R. The same goes for sheets and Excel as most companies are using MS products that are already incorporated into 365. Why switch from Excel to Gsheets? Career development is a great to have guide, but it must not be the focus of a technical certification. Great as an additional knowledge, however, it may be a same fit for all approach. So, at the end of the day it’s up to each person to work on finding opportunities. All in all, IBM provides insights into using tools that are more relevant for analytics and that will truly give an edge to finding job opportunities.
Thank you Tina Huang! You helped me to decide on the career focused option. I will supplement with courses I have learned / am learning on my own: MySQL, Excel, Python (including Panda, Matplotlib, and Numpy), Statistics, Tableau, Power-Bi, and SAS.
I'm almost done with the IBM Data Science Certificate. Amazingly structured, goes into some deep-detailed Python & SQL/Db2 programming. The Watson Studio is awesome, when it comes to integrating with Notebooks, Github and data sources. So for the core skills, I would suggest the IBM one. Next, I'm thinking going for the IBM Data Engineering certificate, which goes into much more technical details on SQL. Some courses are common with the Data Science one, so it would take a relatively sort amount of time to complete once done with the first one.
Thanks for the video! I'm a course and a half into the Google program and I really like it. My background is in political science but I was just accepted into the data science and engineering masters program at Umaine! I chose Google for R because it's what we use most in social science research. I am hoping to integrate ML and big data to my quant research.
Thanks Tina. I breezed through the first 3 courses in this certificate and felt super confident I could nail this in a couple of months time. I must admit it got super hard from course 4 - Python for Data Science, AI & Development. The learning curve is exponential. Each of those 7-15 min videos took me 4-5 hours to complete with contact pauses-plays. The Python in this course is definitely not for beginners. I completed the 4th course just for the sake of it but I don't believe I have mastered any of the skills. Maybe I'm not cut out for this program and should start from ground zero like CompTia ITF+ or Google IT Support or Google Data Analytics. But data analysis/science is something I would wish to pursue
Don't give up on yourself! ITF and Google IT are also good foundational certifications as well. I was actually thinking about going for those two as we as the Microsoft Technology Associate certificate as well. Good luck on your journey. I believe in you!
Great video, Tina, I think I'd go for the IBM one, I prefer the no-nonsense teaching style and also for Python. After all, we can always learn R (it's easier than Python) and do the Google's capstone at the end.
Very informative and right to the point! I'm currently on course 3 on the Google certificate program and plan to finish by mid summer! I am hoping that between my master's in exercise science, Udacity Data Analyst Nanodegree, Certification in Oracle Database 12c SQL and by completing the Google Data Analyst certificate I am hoping that I will be able to find a job that pays more than minimum wage.
I did Google first now currently doing IBM and it makes so much sense for me. I would highly recommend that route since Google only teaches R, Tableau, and SQL while IBM has Python which is in demand.
Those are all very basic courses though. You can do them for the cert, it's free if you do it in 7 days. But then you need to learn advanced SQL and practice Tableau. That should be enough to land you an entry level job but if you want to learn Python, you should also take a more in depth course. The information from the IBM course won't be enough to pass a technical interview.
I enrolled myself in the IBM course and I am on course 6. The Excel explanation was really good and I could learn from it. But Python and SQL are not well-explained. I know SQL well and hence could follow with it. The same goes with Python since I know logic mostly. But if you're a beginner, then do not go for this course. It is a slideshow with a voice speaking constantly. There is hardly any logical explanation in it. This course also provides external labs to write your codes in and practice. In the beginning, everything worked fine but the skill labs are not working anymore. Since my validity ends tomorrow, I guess I will not be able to use it. However, if you are an experienced person, then you can go for this course for a revision. I learned everything through youtube before heading for this course and that is why I could keep up with it. Python is not something that I am satisfied with. I bought it only for Python but now I do not understand it in the course and will return back to RUclips to continue it. I would rate it 2.5/5. I do not even want to complete it because I have no idea what the voice speaks. Terrible explanation.
IBM didn't "go ham on it!" I want to sync a lot of Google products so I'll be doing Google's program but your video was very detailed. Thanks. Also gonna go college style and take the project mgt and Data Analytics at the same time.
I'm working my way through the Google certificate at the moment (on course 4). The lack of Excel and Python doesn't impact me as much since I've done several Excel courses on Coursera previously and am learning Python on the side.
Same here, haha thanks! Your comment solidified my decision to go with Google Data Analytics since I am already learning Excel and Python on the side :)
@@cubeified Hello. I have searched the depths of the internet for the best python resource and I recommend a channel called Corey Schafer or something like that. The teaching style section and capstone section of your video was very helpful to me. They really made your recommendation make a lot of sense. Your video is very helpful, thank you. Just some background: The reason I'm interested your video is because I'm an urban planner who is interested in integrating data analytics in my work. I have no background in data analytics, however some of the water resource engineers that I work with are starting to incorporate it into their work and have shown me how it has helped them.
Thanks Tina. I'm on the 5th course in the Google data analyst certificate. I believe it is 7 courses total plus a capstone project. The cool thing is they teach you about best practices in the data analysis process as well delving into SQL, Tableau, and R. I believe course 7 goes into R so I will see how it goes since I've never used R having mostly learned Python.

Incredible piece of advice on Data Analytics. I can also encourage anyone watching to ensure that they get some credible certifications to prove their competence. This will make it very easy to get recognized among the crowd. There are tons of them, some are even free like the Alteryx certification. I can help guide anyone to pass the Alteryx exams. I am already certified. Before all these, I graduated with my first degree in Mathematics. However, it was very tough finding a job with that degree. I then started learning Data Analytics on RUclips and acquired intermediate competence in using various software like Excel, SQL, Tableau, and Power BI. Despite having these skills, it was still very challenging to land my first job because I didn't have the credentials to justify my skills. So I resorted to online freelancing while building my professional network. It was then that an idea struck me to seek certification that could enable me prove my competence in the said areas. However, another major obstacle was that majority of the certifications like Tableau, Power Bi, and Oracle were a bit expensive for me since I didn't have a job yet. So I learnt of Alteryx free certification and aced it www.dropbox.com/s/9imtpea345s166h/Alteryx%20Cert.jpg?dl=0. It became a good starting point for me and later on I was able to raise funds and register for the paid certifications. I am glad and appreciative for the progress I have made ever since.
Thank you! Started the Google certificate last week and learned about the IBM one from browsing Coursea. Was debating if I should continue or stop to explore the IBM one. Funny how this video was uploaded the day I started my first course lol
Great Video as always❤️ suggestion: maybe pin your discord link since it has many members taking the google analytics course and it can be helpful for others looking to join in and discuss stuff
Would love to see a video which differentiate different roles: Data Analysts vs Data Scientists vs Data Engineer vs Machine Learning Engineer etc. people use those terms interchangeably but there are still some big differences between those roles
Thank you for your video, is a very good source of information to me. Greetings from Colombia. I'm an economist, with an MBA but I want to enter in the world of data science.
I’m at the start of the Google course and I think they are MAJORLY passing the time-to-complete. The video sections obviously have accurate times, but there are readings that are just two paragraphs of fairly straightforward information, marked as 10 or 20 minutes to complete. It’s wild that a written text that’s the same length as the 4-minute video transcript is being filled or quadrupled. Maybe this is only the case in the first (foundations) course, but it seems really disingenuous to prospective employers to have us market ourselves on a “290-hour certificate” that is maybe only half of that. I’m sticking with it because this is an additional skill set I want to potentially be able to work outside the US one day, otherwise I’d have dropped it.
This is helpful. I'm a nurse who has a healthcare administrative background who used to consistently have to work with data & reports. I always wanted to become more versed in analytics so I'm likely to go with the Google certification.
So informative! I love all your videos, you've inspired me to consider data analysis instead of software engineering and I'm so much happier on the data analysis track :)
These courses teach you the fundamentals of data analytics. It doesn’t matter which course you take, doesn’t even have to be Coursera. Nobody cares about which course you took to learn the basics. So why make a big deal out of choosing one? What’s most important is statistics. This comes before the tech. We use the tech nowadays because today we speak of BIG data and not data; we can’t do manual analysis over that amount of data. It’s too much, so we need automation. That’s where SQL, Python, Excel, Power BI, Spark, Azure, etc. come in. Don’t take the deep dive into these tools. Rather, take the deep dive into statistics. Congratulations for being able to clean up some data by removing duplicates and then calculating the mean. Very good. But do you know how many types of explorative data analysis there are and can you actually do them? Let alone predictive analysis. Exactly. Learn statistics, and learn it well. The tools come second.
Great video! I'd like to add a warning for anyone thinking of doing the IBM certificate: learners are currently unable to access labs and there have been no responses in the discussion forums from staff for over 24 hours. This seems to be a regular problem.
I'm sorry this is a reply to a month old comment, but I hope all readers will be forgiving. I'm more inclined to pursue the IBM course just because it better suits how I learn best, but failed access to labs sounds like a deal breaker. How big a problem is it? Is access quickly restored? Does the problem still exist? How much has this problem disrupted students? What does IBM say about the problem? Do they care at all?
I chose the IBM Data Science Pro Cert (10 courses) because it uses Python and SQL, which seem to be the most common requirements in my area. No one seems to care that I have experience with Stata and R. I have an MS in Economics, and Econometric in Data Analysis, so I was really just looking for training with relevant software. I may also look into the google cert, when I am done. I think these certificates can be completed much faster than Coursera suggests. The university wanted to charge me 13k, for a similar data analysis “boot camp.” When they were trying to sell it to me, they admitted that my MS and Grad Certs did not cover the material that employers actually want me to know. lol, it is absurd.
Good job, Tina. I would suggest that a more suitable title is "What is the better certificate for data analysts" because you are comparing only two products/approaches. University degree and professional certificate programs also exist. Perhaps you can interview a person with the academic certificate for comparison. Love your videos!
Thank you so much. it's very helpful. I am thinking about switching my career from mobile app development to data science. Regarding with courses, I think I am gonna go with IBM coz IBM uses python which becoming more popular these days and I am already familiar with it.
Thanks a lot for the overview. It was very well put together. I also want to point out about the Google one is that it is included in the Coursera plus subscription so that might be another plus if you plan on doing some other courses as well.
@@PrincessYonna1 you don't need to do anything. Coursera plus is a yearly/monthly subscription that allows you to do most coursera courses without having to pay for each one of them individually. So if you buy the subscription you can just sign up for the course anytime; it is self paced.
When I first saw these certificates, I realized that university has so many garbage programs and courses to scrape student's money. How’s your journey so far man? Have you started applying for jobs yet? Is the udacity’s nano degree worth it?
@@ajp5961 up
With all of those credentials you really think you might not find a job that pays more than minimum wage? Come on. That’s melodramatic.
Thank you so much! I decided on Google data analytics certificate and Udemy for python.
which course did you choose in udemy for python?
I did Google first now currently doing IBM and it makes so much sense for me. I would highly recommend that route since Google only teaches R, Tableau, and SQL while IBM has Python which is in demand.
Those are all very basic courses though. You can do them for the cert, it's free if you do it in 7 days. But then you need to learn advanced SQL and practice Tableau. That should be enough to land you an entry level job but if you want to learn Python, you should also take a more in depth course. The information from the IBM course won't be enough to pass a technical interview.
@@yarpenzigrin1893 thanks for the response pls do recommend more in-depth python and SQL courses. I regularly practice on data camp on my R and SQL.
Terrible explanation.
i appreciate your feedback :)
Thank u so much for sharing ur experience! This helped me make a confident decision🙏
I'm sorry it didn't work for u though❤
IBM didn't "go ham on it!" I want to sync a lot of Google products so I'll be doing Google's program but your video was very detailed. Thanks. Also gonna go college style and take the project mgt and Data Analytics at the same time.
I'm working my way through the Google certificate at the moment (on course 4). The lack of Excel and Python doesn't impact me as much since I've done several Excel courses on Coursera previously and am learning Python on the side.
thanks! I was thinking on doing the same :)
@@verosiilva Me too!:)
Same here, haha thanks! Your comment solidified my decision to go with Google Data Analytics since I am already learning Excel and Python on the side :)
I am interested in starting this, what source do you use to learn python and excel?
@@cubeified Hello. I have searched the depths of the internet for the best python resource and I recommend a channel called Corey Schafer or something like that.
He has a playlist that teaches you python (it's better if you know another programming language though) and another one about pandas. Highly recommended to say the least.
I have no idea how you ended up in my algorithm but I am grateful for it. Thank you :-).
How did it go?
@@shivasuresh5957 for this reason, would you recommend IBM instead?
I feel y aon course 6 , how was R though ?

Good stuff! I completed the Google UX Certificate . Google actually contacted me for a UX Writing position but after completing the first round of interviews they say I'm on "hold" until they hire more hiring managers. This has gone on for 3 months.
Is there any update from them ?
What's now??did you get hired through it??
Pls update
Thank you, thank you for your recommendations. I am currently on my 3rd course / 3rd month in the Google Data Analytics program.
Just finished the entire course. It was fantastic but not easy. It was definitely challenging. It's worth it.
Hi, congratulatation,
which one have you finished?
I feel like you can go with Google and take a udemy class on python too. Thank you for the video!
NIce! now lets get this bread
YES! That’s what I’m doing - wait for those Udemy sales though...they occur weekly or bi-weekly at this point where a $119 course will be $11.99
which course did you choose in udemy for python?
That's what I;m doing.

Good analytics and problem solving for every one need enrolling in this era
Hi Tina, thx so much for your review. I helped me in my search with my data analytics learning processes. Again thx so much and looking forward to see your other tips and tricks. 🤗
Your videos on this issue are very helpful. Thanks for taking the time to make & post them.
It was a great help, I was bit confused which course to take for the past 10 days. Now I could decide 🙏😊
Gonna do Google one over summer.
Thank you! Started the Google certificate last week and learned about the IBM one from browsing Coursea. Was debating if I should continue or stop to explore the IBM one. Funny how this video was uploaded the day I started my first course lol
What is your learning pace 10hrs/week? Because i want to finish Google certification within 1 month 15 days,
Particularly enjoyed the detailed comparison for the capstone and style of presentation part. Helpful. Thank you, Tina!
I’m doing Ibm certification, and I like it
Great Video as always❤️
suggestion: maybe pin your discord link since it has many members taking the google analytics course and it can be helpful for others looking to join in and discuss stuff
Excellent video, thank you! I am beginning the google courses this week.
you are really like a good instructor for my career goals, thanks tina for you precious time.

Thank you very much for it. Greetings from brazil. Despite english is not being my primary language, i'll do the google course.
Very detailed and honest. Thank you for doing this video.
It’s nice that I can see Google& IBM comparison video on RUclips, although Ive enrolled for Google already.
So informative! I love all your videos, you've inspired me to consider data analysis instead of software engineering and I'm so much happier on the data analysis track :)
thanks for this detailed review! i was going to choose IBM because of Python, but im going to start with google! thanks!
Hey Tina,
I finished this course in trail period and it was pretty basic course except R all are doable in one go and thanks for your suggestions 😊
I'm doing the google certificate and I'm halfway I love the detail of how they go into it.
Currently doing the google one and it’s loooooooong but if your new to Data Analysis probably the more informative one!!
Super informative video with solid explanation and evidence-backed opinion. Love your videos!
Don't forget that you can do a one week trial for each to get a better feel of which one you would like.
Yeah. Very disappointing especially if it's coming from IBM
I'm inspired and motivated by your contents. Thank you a lot for that!
Thanks for your review Ms. Tina Huang! :) It's really helpful.
The university wanted to charge me 13k, for a similar data analysis “boot camp.” When they were trying to sell it to me, they admitted that my MS and Grad Certs did not cover the material that employers actually want me to know. lol, it is absurd.
yeah college in America is kinda a scam. It is more like a business now than a place for education.
Good job, Tina. I would suggest that a more suitable title is "What is the better certificate for data analysts" because you are comparing only two products/approaches. University degree and professional certificate programs also exist. Perhaps you can interview a person with the academic certificate for comparison. Love your videos!
This was very very helpful, thank you!
Thanks Soo much for this Clarity... it can get confusing between the two...thanks alot.
Great review! Google certificate is already available in Europe.
Oo that’s awesome!! :D
Thank you so much. it's very helpful. I am thinking about switching my career from mobile app development to data science. Regarding with courses, I think I am gonna go with IBM coz IBM uses python which becoming more popular these days and I am already familiar with it.
I've tried both IBM and Treehouse. IBM is far better than Treehouse in my opinion. But Tina has convinced me to give Google's certificate a go!
I would pick the Google data analytics certificate. Though i do like python more
You can always pick up python after! Once you learn one others are much faster to pick up. There’s also so many great courses on python out there :)
Informative video, thanks Tina!
Thanks a lot for the overview. It was very well put together. I also want to point out about the Google one is that it is included in the Coursera plus subscription so that might be another plus if you plan on doing some other courses as well.
Ohh thanks for the tip!! ❤️
How do I connect google one to it
@@PrincessYonna1 you don't need to do anything.
While you can learn pretty much all the basics about data analytics in couple dollars, some shools charge you couple thousands to do the so-called "data science professional program" and basically they learn the same things ....
1. Independence
2. Self-motivation
3. Time management
4. Teamwork
5. Taking criticism
6. Communication
7. Resolving conflicts
This is what University Teaches You....After University , you can do whatever you want including taking these job specific certifications or even just learning the stuff on your own....
Honestly, who needs to to pay thousands of dollars per year to learn these... I pay for education, not kindergarten stuff
@@hunt9556 A university is there to provide you FULL education. Its not however a must that all must attend university. Alternatives are there. So no need to generalize. What these certifications teach is application of what university education has produced through serious research. E.g. SQL originated from stuff that is taught in universities...EF Codd , PHD

The weakness of Google is R. The weakness of IBM is Cognos. I'm already familiar with Excel and Python, so I think I'll go with the IBM, and then learn tableau on my own.
Please tell what is your position now can u get job
To be honest, ibm certificate is good but not the best. Only the excel part I have found intuitive. The rest unfortunately is not understandable ( from a beginners perspective)
IBM has one that does use R now! IBM Data Analytics with Excel and R Professional Certificate The first three courses of both are the same but then the two certificates diverge and are basically same structure different language!
Very informative! Thank you so much!
this video helped me take an informed decision. thank you. may u enjoy the youtube $$
I am doing both of them. From my experience I can say that Google one is bteer then IBM.
What about someone without computer basic?
Thank You Bro
where can we practice the projects for data analytics
Another great video. THANK U SOOOO MUCH
This was very helpful, thank you so much :)
I did IBM data analyst, i did IBM data science and now i have finish 5 courses of IBM data engeneering... I think they are great. I have i will have m'y 3rd IBM professionnal certificate soon
Thank you so much! Pretty good explanation.
Very good video. You explained very simply. And I got positive energy from you. But only 1 thing i dont agree with you: Python not readeble than R. it is right python big language, but R is very easy, simple and readable. And in data analitics R is good than python. Therefore google select R :) .
I'd choose Google too. I took an IBM course on edX and their materials were messy and contained some mistakes.
Thank you so much for your time and insight
Thanks for the information pretty lady!😍😍
I took both
My advice? Google is too basic. IBM is more detailed.
Take Google first
Then hop on to IBM. It wouldn't be that new again.
Google's tableau course was meeehh. I had to come on RUclips to take a whole course on tableau from tutorialspoint
Great video! It really helps me:)
Im going to take IBM mainly because of Excel and python
Planning to take the Google's after finishing IBM
Thank you Tina Huang for guiding a starter like me.
Great video, just the audio needs some improvements! I picked the Google certificate from Italy and it's great. Thank you for your video
Thanks very informative THANK YOU!!
Hey can a person with a non IT background do take up these certificates to get an entry level job in the field?
Yes.
Yes , you can
Thank you very much that was helpful.
I did the Google Certificate and then started studying python in order to get better, but now I feel like I didn't learnt enough... I'm having trouble studying online and at my own, i think i need to revisit some courses.
I wasn't sure about about which cert was "better" so I just signed up for BOTH! So far on C4 and so far theyre not that difficult. I have no background in this (undergraduate in Business) so I recommend everyone like me to practice practice practice every day. I also applied for a Intuit Bookkeeping cert! It's important to have a specific idea on what employers in your region would be looking for. Before starting I googled local data anlayst jobs and am taking steps to learn what they're requesting from applicants.
Thank you, this was really helpful, I prefer the Google course but I wished they used Python instead of R.
