Is this conversation canon?
I’m not sure about this conversation word for word, but yes Malcador did force choke Horus when he almost said one of the Lost Primarchs names
Yup. Actually a whole lot longer and the chocking is after this when Horus was about to say one of the missing primarchs names and break the Emperor law. Its only Jaghatai that stops Malcador from possibly killing Horus.
In the short story The Last Council, Horus, Alpharius, and Jaghatai Khan attempt to stop Malcador the Sigillite from destroying one of the Lost Primarchs' statues outside the Imperial Palace. This Lost Primarch's actions had led to his "fall" and disgrace during the Great Crusade, and because of this, Malcador claimed he was no longer worthy of having a statue that bore his face. Horus and his brothers disagreed and stated that the Lost Primarch deserved to be remembered for the glory he had earned the Imperium. Horus then claimed that Malcador had overstepped his authority and was trying to amend the Imperium's early history, so that future generations would never know of the Lost Primarch. Despite their arguments, Malcador refused to listen, and angrily used his psychic powers to attack Horus, who began to utter the name of the Lost Primarch. While being psychically strangled by Malcador, Horus attempted to speak, but only managed to say "M..Mal...al". While, it is unknown if this is the name of the Lost Primarch, or if Horus was just trying to say Malcador's name, the former is more likely as Malchador felt an "He felt the old, familiar rage" start to surface within him upon hearing Horus speak that name, and Horus never stopped his attempt to defy Malcador.[40]
He forced Horus down onto his knees.
‘ Mal… ’ the stricken primarch choked. ‘ M-Mal… al… ’
The Sigillite’s face twisted into a vengeful rictus. He felt the old, familiar rage beginning to stir, deep in his undying soul.
‘Enough. You will be silent, or I will unmake you, here and now.’
Horus’ windpipe closed with a sickly crackle. His right eye bloomed red as a blood vessel burst in the sclera.
But still he would not relent.
So defiant. So… So… ungrateful…
My favorite part about this whole encounter is that while Malcador is force choking Horus like a bitch the Khan and Alpharius are just in the back begging him to stop like children asking their uncle to stop beating their brother
He was just trying to say Malcador.
Macaldor : "Revealing the name of the Lost Primarch could affect the GW sales, Be Silent !"

The Last Council lends a lot more weight and context to Horus being infuriated that in the vision Erebus shows him of the future theres no statue of him and the other traitors. Knowing that a big symbolic part of erasing the missing Primarchs after they were [DATA EXPUNGED] was destroying their statues heavily implies that Horus read a lack of a statue of him and half of his Brothers in 40k as "The Emperor ordered us killed and removed from history once we were no longer useful" which is a much better reason for betrayal than just him being mad his legacy wasnt valued enough.
i would still argue it was still paranoia on horus's part, and chaos's influence too. sure fear of being erased was there but there were other ways of dealing with those concerns. the first action when you think you are being betrayed shouldn't be to betray everyone before they betray you.
@@sovietunion7643 If you are friends with a guy who you've SEEN PERSONALLY to betray another guy who was loyal to him, and then you get a vision that shows him betraying you in the same manner, fuck yeah you'll go full Alpha Legion and start making plans in your newfound paranoia

Which is why Horus last moments were of regret. He finally realized that this treason he committed, was the reason there were no statues of his fellow brothers who followed him.
The ultimate betrayal, was the Gods who showed him the future of what he had done.
A lot of people view this as a 'badass' moment for Malcador but honestly this moment probably did more to tip Horus towards betrayal than anything.
Yes. Instead of handling a clearly grief stricken Horus like an adult, Creepy Uncle Malcador decided it was time to LARP as Darth Vader.
@@randomcenturion7264 Which is odd, seeing how Malcador was quite the manipulator, you'd think he'd find a better way to handle a situation like that

Real Galaxy-Brained move there, Big E.
@Random Centurion It's an issue with the Horus Heresy series as a whole, it's expanded well beyond its original scope and the number of authors involved has skyrocketed to the point where narrative or character consistancy is a long forgotten dream.
If I remember correctly the Horus Heresy series originally was Black Library's attempt to be taken seriously as a critically acclaimed publisher, only the best authors working on a tight highly planned well cross refernced series of 3/4 trilogies covering the stages of the Heresy (something like fall, betrayal, war, seige of terra). No Gav Thrope and absolutely no CS Goto. 50 odd novels later we are a long way from that original intent and it's lead a lot of characters to make extremely dumb decisions based more on the authors preferences or would be convient for the plot than what necessarily would make sense for the character in the circumstance
@@randomcenturion7264 Big E is one of the most idiotic beings on the galaxy when you see his actions as a whole.
- He knew a few primarchs would betray him and allowed them to live without any supervision.
- He never informed them about the truth of the immaterium despite knowing the dark gods wanted the primarchs souls and being huge made them an easy target to find.
- Since he never spoke of the immaterium he never told his sons about the cults of chaos, which allowed Erebus to do basically everything (and Typhus).
- Didn't care about Angron at all since we do know for a fact that he could either: Use his powers to save him or put him in stasis until he could. Which means he wanted the battle crazed primarch to be used as a weapon, even tho he would 100% turn into chaos due to Khorne.
- Never told the psychic son of his about the webway nor the nature of chaos even tho he was the most loyal.
- Killed all religions and its members but never said why, which, if he did, he could've saved billions of people.
- Used his future sighting to see the best path all the time, even tho he already knew Chaos could blind him for a few moments and decided all his plans based on that.
- Sent wave after wave of soldiers to die and expected loyalty (Perturabo noises).
- Killed his own assets for no big reasons (thunder warriors, we know for certain he just didn't want them to be that strong since one thunder warrior managed to extend his own life).
- Decided to allow the mentally deranged Konrad to keep a place of power.
- Allowed most worlds to live in the most decadent way possible, even tho he could slowly improve their situations thus removing Chaos control over said planets.
- Introduce anything he's done since he was alive.

The books didn’t lean on this angle enough, imho Horus betraying the Emperor because he wants to avenge his erased brothers is a lot better than him being stabbed by a magic chaos blade and getting mind fucked into joining Chaos.
That was ultimately what led to Horus Heresy. If it all were not nothing, if all this genocide and murder was Just to make Emperor a god, Horus would be heart broken. Horus was one of few primarchs that did not want to commit genocide against aliens. All the time during Great Crusade he kept repeating „Its for the future of humans (Greater Good Greater Good Greater Good)” and then Horus saw future, and all went to shit.

They changed names.
I used to hate horus but after reading the first books of the Horus Heresy series, especially Horus Rising, I actually pity him and understand why he did what he did. So far I've identified 3 fatal flaws that the imperial leadership and Emperor made.
1. They did not warn the primarchs of the existence of chaos. I can understand not informing the general public so as to maintain stability and prevent mass panic, but the primarchs and their top commanders should of been made aware of the dangers it posed.
2. The Emperor was kind of a shitty Dad. Horus in one chapter laments to Madagast and two members of the mournival that he is concerned that the burden of running the imperium is simply too much for him to handle and that his job was to lead the crusade not appease and endless wave of snarky bureaucrats, and he felt that the Emperor kinda of threw him away to wolves.
3. The imperium didn't seem very cohesive. The legions from what I can tell rarely operated together and often petty rivalries between primarchs and their legions got in the way of the mission. The Emperor could, and should of intervened. Horus tried to repair relations but only a few primarchs returned the gesture. Most were lukewarm at best.
These factors I believe are what made horus vulnerable, and the betrayal of Erebus with the interex, and the events of Davin's moon sealed the deal. I honestly feel bad got horus. He got betrayed and led to his demise by a former friend. Seriously, Erebus can go suck on a fat one.
This is extra sad when you remember Horus was so nervous becoming Warmaster that Malcador gave him a sort of pep talk before the ceremony.
And then...THIS, was their last real conversation.
It’s really tragic that Malcador in this moment gave Horus all the motivation he needed to be Warmaster but sadly he motivated him in the opposite direction.
@@michaelkean5969 And it led to Horus torturing him on the Golden Throne, making him watch everything he was doing to the boarding party, all while the Dark Gods fought to eat his soul.

Are you also going to commit heresy against your family like Horus did?
Malcador and by extension the emperor were cold bastards.
For all that Malcador chides Horus for not knowing the struggles of the common man, how could he, an immortal with the power to destroy a primarch possibly understand that!?
For all their talk of humanity they had mere scerics of it.

When Malcador force-choked Horus for trying to speak the fallen Primarchs name, he made it abundantly clear how they meant to him or the emperor.

I really don't get why Big E and Malcador seemed to think they were too good for basic management work and employee appreciation. They - and the Imperium as a whole - could really have benefited from some leadership training. An average middle-manager of today is better at this particular skill than they were. I'm sure they thought they could predict everything and had everything well in hand, but they clearly underestimated the human factor. I kind of like that, since it's such a basic flaw that caused complete downfall.

For years I thought Horus had turn be a traitor for a selfish Gain .
But it was not to be forgotten , not to treated as tool by the emperor ,he wanted to be love
by the emperor for himself and his brothers.
For that reason, I now understand him for his betrayal .
The emperor has been betrayed everyone like he had betrayed the thunders warriors who have lay down their lives for emperor cause.
Horus was tormented with chaos induced nightmares of the future where him and his fallen brothers statues where being destroyed, the implications where that the emperor erased them (the heresy cause the destruction of the traitor primarchs statues so he cause the future he was trying to stop) and was also stabbed with a blade that helped chaos taint him + all 4 chaos gods played a part in the corruption of horus which turned him into a puppet of chaos, when the emperor purged chaos from horus, he was regretful and deeply saddened by what he did. thunder warriors where physiologically unstable and where slowly killed be there gene flaws and driven insane, so that was a mercy kill as well as that they killed civilians way to much do to said flaws. Thunder warriors where also really hard to make due to the amount of gene seed that was crammed into them, so instead of letting them sit on the sidelines and go crazy and slowly die a painful death, he had them culled so they wouldn't suffer.

The old expanded universe for star wars and the clone wars series did this for Anakin, and more scenes like this would've done the same for horus and other traitors. Give us more scenes of lorgar when he was young, with his worship of the emperor being one of the only things that kept him going on his shit chaos homeworld. Give us more scenes of mortarion being disrespected by his own people for failing and needing the emperor to save him.
All of these would do miles for justifying their falls. Make things more understandable, the issue is in lore much of this was only shown once or implied so it makes the primarchs come off as whiney bitches. The only traitors with a justified and understandable fall currently are angron and konrad.

1.) They both turned out as irrevocable failures, and commited horrors that couldn't see the light of day. The Night Lords and World Eaters are bad, the fact they didn't get wiped but the other 2 did hints to them going even more wrong than any others.
2.) They discovered the Chaos gods before anyone else, and the Big E thought that if he could contain the knowledge of them he could put off the coming reconing by just abit longer. Even if they didn't get tainted, the idea of a world beyond filled with demons and gods may have shattered the r/atheism empire Big E was making.

“No….but are we just gonna stand around until he does?”
What’s even sadder about this is that Angron and Kharn were supposed to be the ones To alleviate the pain of these two, only to allow the butchers nails to destroy any chance of that happening.
:(
How so?
I come back to this a lot.
Thank you. 😊
Had Khan and Alpharius grown a pair and backed up their brother 40K would be a different world RN.
Honestly the Lost primarchs should've been the reason for the heresy, or at least this moment should've started it
Lorgar and Sanguinius were worried their legions would be discarded like one (or both?) of their brothers, Vulkan was uneasy, Corvus was, at first, seemingly confused on why there was only 18 sons if he was n°19, Fulgrim was apparently sad, Leman seemed to regret it too... fuck, even Mortarion, out of all people, mentioned something to Magnus to not talk about it and hush hush. Horus had this moment with Alpharius and Malcador, Khan even said that Horus was speaking out of grief and not reason (mostly to appease the situation). Dorn was kinda pissed off when he remembered it and Guilliman seemed sad but left two empty seats for them in the Fortress of Hera.
People barely talk about those two primarchs in lore, as it should apparently, but whatever happened to them kinda served as a spark for a future rebellion, Chaos involved or not.
Emperor: dammit Lorgar stop! Angron did what to his legion?!
Curze bombed his home world?
Look, I'm too busy to mind wipe humanity (again!) and obliterating 3 legions is not an option! Right Lorgar gets the first talk.
It makes me wonder who the two missing primarchs were.
The question we may never get an answer.
Gork and Mork
@R O personally I think one left the galaxy and found the tyranids becoming like vecna in Stranger Things.
And the other is Mala
Sigmar Heldenhammer
The II primarch apparently was a chill guy, according to Fulgrim
I actually remember reading somewhere that Malcador wasn't actually doing some force chocking stuff and was actually smoothing Horus's brain, as in, literally unwrinkling it
Heheheh
Funnily enough I'm sure this is part of the reason horus fell to Chaos. They preyed on one of horus' primary fears, his fear of being forgotten, just used and tossed aside. And Malcador outright said that could happen to him, Malcador, the second in command of the imperium, the guy that often speaks on the emperor's behalf saying this. The only thing that would've irked Horus more is if the emperor himself said it.
As much as I hate Horus for being a huge “pick me” boy. I genuinely love moments like this that humanize and bring his inner struggle to life
The primarchs arrived. Upon moloch,a month later they gathered.
Mortarion eyed the gathering carefully before looking at horus
"I hope you have a good reason for why were here horus."
"Under any circumstances id dissagree...but yes, what is this about horus?" Lorgar eyed.
"The emporor..." Konrad said with uncharacteristic quietness.
Dorn sneered. "You will be silent in our presence curze. Youve done enough."
"Dorn, this is not the time for grudges." Horus said curtly.
"I say otherwise,do you not hate curze for his actions,to me as well?"
Horus shook his head to dorns rage.
"You have a right to be angry. But curzes visions had a point. A point i now see. Father is coming. If you wont listen to me,at least let him speak."
Mortarion was about to object, but it was neither the time or place. Defeated he eyed horus.
"Then what does father want then?"
"I called you all here because of what horus spoke to me of."
Arriving was the emporor, constantin and malcador. Horus eyed his father but kneeled the same.
"What did horus and you speak of?" Mortarion eyed the witch.
The emporor thought long, before nodding.
"Something i should entrust you all with."
Magnus and perturabo eyed each other carefully.
"Well. Lead on father." Magnus spoke.
The primarchs and emporor arrived at the gate, the emporor turned and he spoke.
"Tell me,what do you recall before you arrived on your home world?"
Answers were mostly the same as they answered. But konrad spoke.
"But we were made on terra. Had it gone your way,we would have stayed there. Then what of the chaos gods?"
"Do not call them that. They are not gods. Not ones in the sense you think."
The emporor showed a mini map like show of the warp.
"These 4 creatures call themselves gods, vut in reality they are parasites. At 1st,i did not have the means to make you. Until moloch. I took my birthright from moloch, but at a cost. The neverborn believe they want to save you from me. When in reality they bay and hunger for your souls. As for what would happen...why dont you tell them, konrad."
Konrad was shocked. But did so.
"The galaxy would be in flames. I have seen it. Lorgar, you become the 1st heretic, dragging down horus with you. Mortarion, you fall to nurgle after betrayal and necares promise. Fulgrim, you kill ferrus and become your very opposite. And sanguinus...fair,fair sanguinus..."
"YOU LIE! HOW DARE YOU KONRAD!" Storms teeth roared, but horus cought his arm.
"Let me go brother."
"This is not the time for rage to dictate your actions rogal. He speaks the truth. If you will not listen to him, then listen to father."
"I...forgive me. my lord."
"As he said, this would come to pass originally. But horus seemed to change."
Lorgar eyed his father nervously.
"If there are no gods, then what does that make you father? You are a god in all but name!"
Neoth sighed.
"Lorgar,i am this way through circumstances not my own. I stamp out religion because it has utterly destroyed man upon several ocasions. I make a inportance upon apperance for many reasons. But if you desire faith, then place that faith in neither gods nor daemons. But in humanity."
Lorgar was silent...but nodded.
"I...i will keep this in mind."
"Then what of me father!?" Perturabo roared.
"...i am sorry perturabo. I will help you with your problems. But please. Once we are done." Perturabo silently nodded.
"Then what of me father..." Curze said.
The emporor steped to curze.
"I will do what i should have done upon nostramo."
Dorn looked confused.
"That being?"
"This."
The emporor put a hand to curze. His visions began to cease, yet not fully,as the darkness of his eyes faded to a more natural blackened brown.
"So horus is the reason your being buddy buddy is it!?" Mortarion sneered in disgust.
"...i will not ask for forgiveness mortarion. But i ask for you to not let horus be the reason for this. Even if i do not show it,i love all of you in some way. My many selves may be otherwise but i truely do love you all.
Fulgrim nodded. Setting the laer blade aside he eyed the emporor.
"...im sorry."
"Come my sons...the galaxy awaits but...for once. Let us talk."
Where is this from.
@@anirudhashok3332 its fanfic

where can I read it
Narrator: "He felt like a little bitch." (One of my favourite moments in Canon. Malcador finally having enough of this shit and one demigod on his knees and two others pleading for his life.)
Thunder Warriors: First time?
Almost Malcador, you almost end the heresy before it even started...
id say its likely the Emperor would have gotten rid of them all as he did with thunder warriors, likely he would have made a second batch and just said they did all the crusading with him instead of the originals.
Its pretty much confirmed that some would have gotten the Thunder warriors treatment one way or another
My conspiracy/headcanaon is that the two lost primarchs encountered daemons and chaos. Likely as part of the "rangdan xenocides." Knowing about the mere existence of chaos is almost as bad as actively worshipping the gods. Big E and Malcador couldn't have the primarchs or their sons who partook in the battle blabbing about that. So it was determined that the lost primarchs were to be killed, the marines who were with them purged, and all records of their deeds expunged. A massive cover-up to keep the burgeoning imperium ignorant of chaos' existence. All that effort to censor their existence wasted when the Horus Heresy came around, which was too big and too devastating to ever full cover up or deny the existence of.
We should get the guy who did Horus in the Audio Dramas to voice this.
That would be glorious!
I read somewhere that the two missing primarchs have to do with the Rangdan Xenocides somehow.
My best guess is that they allied with the Xenos and fought the Imperium, but that doesn't explain their legions getting wiped out too.
God I loved the Luna Wolves Color palette so much, Horus looks so regal here.
One of the first signs of corruption was replacing that glorious dust white and gold look with that swamp-ass green Sons of Horus paint.
I always assumed that Horus saying “M… Mal …al” was actually his trying to say his dead brother’s name rather than pleading to Malcador. Showing that both Horus would not yield or back down. And that he truly loved his brothers and wanted to do what was right. Sort of a foreshadowing of his refusal to back down or yield during the Heresy. Let alone why he betrayed the Emperor in the first place.
Malcador chokes Horus: *angry breathless gurgling*
Malcador chokes Fulgrim: *aghhh....hh..h..HARDER DADDY!*
Only thing this comic gets wrong is Horus still stared him down as he was choking, even as his eyes turned red from blood vessels bursting, he never looked away, until he was allowed to breath again.
And they wonder so many of the god emperor's sons fell.
Horus acended the steps to the study. The emporor floated to his feet after meditating, with the primarch entering minutes later.
"Horus? I thought you were away."
"I was. But i want answers. I want the truth."
"...which truth."
"You know exactly which one father. Moloch. The creatures of the warp who hunt our souls. Why is it not worth telling others?"
"... sanguinus saw it didnt he. He told you. A galaxy in flames. Sound right?'
"Yes. What is driving my brothers visions, what is going on?"
The emporor was silent, yet horus eyes flared with rage.
"If you will not trust any of the astartes or anyone else, then ive seen enough. I do not agree with the methods we must do."
The emporor sighed. Then nodded. What was the golden armor of the emporors massive form faded. What stood before him,was a man. Eyes golden like the sun, hair darker still, wearing a mix of advanced armor and primitive wear. Neoth. Not a avatar or anything else. But him alone.
"You wish for the truth my son? Then look. You want to see what i see? Feel what i feel? Then look."
Horus fell to his knees at the sight of the tired man. Memorys flashed. Memorys of the past,of a good man trying to do what he can,his folly leading to disaster. The present, where all hell broke loose. And a myriad of futures. Releasing his grip upon horus he eyed him with a mix of frustration and anger.
"You see why i am hesitant in showing you this?"
Horus nodded slowly.
"You trust nearly nobody save the custodes and malcador because of what happened. You did what you did because every other option was inpossible. I have one more question. Why do the neverborn bay for our souls?"
Neoth sighed and calmed himself.
"Meet me upon molech. Bring mortarion, magnus, curze, perturabo, lorgar, dorn and fulgrim. If you want the truth, then i will show you 1st hand. And do not make me regret this."
Gash, the history that was hidden!!
And than big M put that little man child in his place.
I mean let's be honest. The astartes and primarchs were always nothing but tools to the emperor and malcador. Once their usefullness had ended they'd have been scrubbed out too.
Well at least most of the legions were actually useful in something other then fighting, with few exceptions. Thunder warriors...not so much.
Honestly, he shouldn't have needed Chaos to turn traitor, this sort of thing should have been enough.
Seeing Leman's bloodied sword thrust in the dirt accompanied by the words "Crushed" gives me chills but also makes me deeply sad.
And thus, another reason for the Horus Heresy.
Kinda sad how we know almost nothing about these two Primarch and their Legions, and I honestly cannot imagine something even worse then the Horus Heresy as a whole, what did they do to deserve being erased from history, yet still being remembered vaguely by their brothers? Magnus the Nerd did something wrong, and that's intresting because, pretty much almost everything we can think of, the reasons why the Second and Eleventh Legion are gone, the traitors did it in one way or another and they're still alive, under the control of Chaos of course.
I wonder if perhaps the reason they were [data expunged] isn't that what they did was worse than the heresy, but that the opposite: that it was small enough in scale that silencing all mention of it and them was feasible.
The same cannot be said for Horus' rebellion for the sheer size and damage it inflicted. Horus' and the other traitors' statues may be gone, but everybody knows their names after what they did, even if the nature of chaos is kept from the public to the best of the inquisition's efforts.
Not necessarily worse. Just made at at time where the ressources were sufficient to hide it, and the scale of it small enough too. You can't expundge that much the Horus Heresy (and even then, in 40k lore, most people don't know about it. Horus is like the devil in christianity, a legendary figure to scare off children)
If i'm not wrong In the origal story malkador was on the verge of tears during the whole conversation
Yeah... sounds about right...
Loved the reference to the Fallen Angel painting at the end
While we don't know why the two primarchs were forgotten
Knowing Emperor and Malcador, Horus was most likely in the right here
Meanwhile in an alternate timeline: "You're right Horus, what I did was excessive and if you wish to you may hate me for it, if you wish to undo what has been done I will not stop you, because I trust you to make the decisions you feel are correct"
Horus: Oh-uhhh whole speech kinda feels like a moot point now
**And the Horus Heresy became the Lorgarian heresy which was quickly snuffed out by Horus but not forgotten because Horus wishes his brothers right and wrongs not be forgotten**
And to think what could've been if Malcador didn't feel like LARPing as Darth Vader that day.
I always fìnd it interesting that the two primarchs who were with Horus were Khan and Alpharius (possibly Omegon since he was the one who was friendly with Horus) one decided to stay loyal which shows Horus fall and the other joined Horus and died while Omegon ( Alpharius) also sided with they loyalists
This conversation is canon, but Malcador just strangled him with his powers after Horus said that as a way to put Horus in his place, he just did it because Horus broke one of the Emperor's laws not to mention the name of the warrior in question
If memory serves, the choke happened as soon as Horus was about to utter the forgotten Primarch's name
Indeed!
And "mal" isn't for "malcador" but for "malal" one of the erased primarchs
And "mal" isn't for "malcador" but for "malal" one of the erased primarchs
And "mal" isn't for "malcador" but for "malal" one of the erased primarchs
horus is like that, yet the treatment of the fourth legion and their primarch was something he used anyway
Malcador: "Sit down, pup. You think you're the real Macoy? Think again." 😛
