The only known show where Kurt didn't play a single song on guitar. It was Jason Everman playing all the songs and it's frickin horrible! It's clear he didn't know the songs that well. SMH!
Notes: Kurt's "Look ma, no hands" show. He broke his guitar the previous night and had not gotten it fixed yet leaving Jason Everman to play guitar by himself for the entire set. It wasn't great and clear that Everman only knew or practiced the rhythm parts and appears he didn't know the songs all that well, some may disagree but it's a notable show in Nirvana's history.
Set List:
School
Floyd The Barber
Love Buzz [Shocking Blue cover]
About A Girl
Spank Thru
Big Cheese
Polly
Negative Creep
Blew - Видеоклипы
I wonder how weird it must've felt for Kurt to not play guitar for a whole set.
1:13 School
4:39 Floyd the Barber
7:47 Love Buzz
11:22 About a Girl
14:38 Spank Thru
18:43 Big Cheese

26:53 Swap Meet (Guitar Line)
27:20 Negative Creep

Thanks for posting the set list. Man, Jason's guitar playing sucked so bad. Listening to Love Buzz was cringe worthy. He didn't know the songs very well.
@@PhiberOptik1979 I think he did ok for the situation he was in, but yeah I can see why you would say that. And I'm pretty sure that he only knew the rhythm parts of the song
edit: he did play really badly haha
@@PhiberOptik1979 Yeah, but Kurt also messed Love buzz up bad. Jason was just playing the parts he knew.
Jason playing doesn’t sound that bad of course it’s not as good as Kurt’s but it’s not bad I think it’s just decent
this is probably one of the most interesting Nirvana shows.
2 and a half years later and they were the biggest band in the world hard work does pay off
6:59 Jason's might metal song!
He play intro jesus saves from slayer
I think Jason did alright considering he likely had very little time to learn the lead parts, if any at all. I imagine most rhythm guitarists would struggle if they had to fill in for the lead guitarist on short notice.
they were both rhythmn im pretty sure singers who play guitar song to lead
23:10 Jason playing a riff of a song of the band he joined after nirvana, Soundgarden. The song name is Hunted Down ruclips.net/video/fY0r8v3_Nns/видео.html
I Love it! Awesome. Jason Everman is a HERO!
Honestly, I think Jason’s playing wasn’t the problem, he killed it (especially on School and Floyd The Barber), it’s just his amp felt like being a prick.
Pretty good for a future Army Ranger just along for the ride. I give the guy credit for paying for the Bleach recording and getting the ball rolling.
True that, also Kurt messed up a bunch, specially on Polly. They all got confused on that track.
@@EricJohnson-eo8fe he didn't play lol

i lived around green st during those heady boston days and sadly i recall the july night they were playing-walking past the bar-the door was open, and i stood and listened as i usually did. chose to not go in! i went in to see galaxy 500 the night before. later after they broke, and i became a mega fan-had tickets to see them with breeders at springfield civic center as superstars. again foolishly i didnt go figuring there'd be another chance..........he was dead in a month.....moral: when kurt is in town make it your priority!
The Breeders still put on a pretty good show. Ive seen them twice lol. I saw Nirvana once on Halloween 1993. Kurt came out dressed like Barney the dinosaur and Pat smear was dresses like Slash drom guns n roses. They had a really bad guitar dual clearly making of hair metal. Wish a video existed, i have only seen a still shot. Just another one of Nirvana's great moments lol
He was in the band for 5 months and still didn't know these songs, wow
He was a secondary guitarist he only does octave higher and lower notes what do you expect
@@revengeof1307 i expected him to know chords and songs structures.
@@BobHarley alright coming from my band when i was 11 (3 yrs ago) I was a second guitarplaying through a twin reverb. And I had to play by ear they would tell me what tuning the song is. We would go into a rehearsal and I juat played smaller notes octave higher usually. But different notes that intertwined. So practically different notes the lead guitarist was having difficulty mid show. (We played at small bars and restaurants) and I wasn’t prepped. So They told me I had to play the song... I had to go along. Luckily it was the solo. I played base notes without the licks almost as a baseline. But exact opposite notes then the bass. It was sloppy because of me freaking out. After this exact show they soon taught me me how to play the songs and I recently left the band ag the beginning of covid. Almost like Nirvana it seems the second time they had a second guitarist in 93 I wanna say they actually taught him the notes.... But I agree he was playing really bad..
@@BobHarley oh yeah btw, I watched one of your rio de janero nirvana concerts last week. Coincidentally.
@@BobHarley especially Polly
GOLD!!
God his clean tone sounded like it was going through a radio. Such a bad sound
His amp was acting up, man.

If I wanted to listen to isolated drums and bass I would have just looked it up
Lol
Have you ever played live? It's not hard for amps to fail, I think Jason handled it well.
@@valle4483I’ve played live many, many times. He was awful. Not sure why you’re so hellbent on defending him. It’s nothing personal. He was bad, oh well.
@@pandemic7 That's your opinion, but my comment was not about his skills of performing live. It was about his rig messing up which you can't really blame on him? I'm not hellbent on defending. I think he did well most of the time. If you listen to other lives where kurt had his guitar as usual they sounded pretty good and grungy together with jason. Though this gig everyone seemed a bit thrown off with kurt not playing. During polly kurt himself messed up with the vocal timing after his mic cut out a bit. He started singing the verse too early while the rest of the guys were correctly still on the chorus. Would you blame that on jason?
@@valle4483 Clearly, no one in the comments is concerned with Jason’s gear or criticizing him for that. It’s obvious to everyone here, even to those without live performance experience, that Jason doesn’t know how to play the songs well. It’s clear that he either didn’t rehearse the songs enough, he was a bad guitar player, or he was drunk (a reason he was kicked out of the band). They sound better with Kurt because Kurt’s guitar is masking Jason’s as Kurt guitar takes up the front end of the sonic spectrum. See Nirvana’s live performances with Pat Smear as an example. The French TV performance of Drain You is a great example. When Kurt’s guitar cuts out listen to Pat’s guitar and you’ll hear what I mean. Nothing against Jason, he seems like a helluva dude that’s lived an amazing life.
Jim Irsay, the owner of the Indianapolis Colts, paid roughly 4 million dollars for the Guitar Kurt played in the music video "Smells Like Teen Spirit.
7:46 Love Buzz
was this at the T stop? or was there also a bar called Green St Station?
23:00 Get on the snake jam Polly
Whoa he did "Hunted Down" too. That's awesome.
this is for all you college students....
understatement of the year: "next time watch us when I have a guitar, it might be different"
Best version of Spank Thru, ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
14:33 Spank Thru
Krist here looks like younger Serj Tankian.
Is this the only show (minus few songs on unplugged in ny) that Kurt doesnt play guitar?
there’s a video where his guitar breaks half way through drain you and he finishes only singing. other than that i think you’re right.
@@Cauldronofbats666 yeah the French tv show
@@Cauldronofbats666 that was a TV shownappearance in France 1994. Oddly enough it's the best ever performance of Drain You.
He sang for Tad once too.
Also the times when they played Vendetagainst, since it is only bass and drums
Kurt Cobain's legacy would be diminished by at least 60% If he never died at 27 years old.
I love Nirvana, but you speak the truth. I think that's part of why he wanted to die...he talked about joining the 27 club in his journals as a teenager.
Not true.
Every rock star's legacy is amplified if they die young, especially at 27 !!!!!
Yep, just like Dave's has with his corporate band.
Forgot to mention that even The Leagacy of Elvis would not be close to what it is today had he not died at 42. Elvis sold *20* *million* records in the week after his death.
I don't know why kurt didn't play guitar for this show but it's possible he wanted to hear Jason play to make a decision....this is Jason's second to last show
he smashed his univox phase 3 in the show before so in this case everman had to fill in since kurt didnt find a guitar that he could use that night
Nah, he just destroyed his guitar the show prior and didn't have one.
Why didn't Jason just sit this one out?
That should have been recorded!!!!!

honest to god jason played pretty well for having a completely different style. He mimicked some of the nirvana nuances very well.
No
@@nickhartman6372 oh ok.
School solo xD
Surely they couldve just asked jason to sit this one out...
Jason ...jason.... :((((( Screw up
He should have just gave his guitar to kurt.
Yeah but look at 1989 Jason Everman. That was his douche bag era before he got into Soundgarden, and way before he went on to serve our country and turn out to be one rock solid dude. He woulda never let him string it left handed so Kurt could play it. hahah. Then we would have no gems like this to look back on and make us have a bigger appreciation for Kurt!
@@PhiberOptik1979you're right , I totally forgot about kurt being left handed .

Kurt actually sings better without guitar :))
Yeah,it’s easier to concentrate on only one thing
Is it just me, or besides Jason amps cutting out fucking him over, Kurt is kinda messing up a fair bit here as well, with singing parts too early/late.
Jason wasnt that bad imo
Everyone that likes these type of recordings go type in: Grunge Bunny - "Oops"
u suck
Eh his playing wasnt that bad, just his amp or something messing him up and its too quiet. Also a lot of the time Kurt messed up, likely due to not playing guitar while singing.
I take it you're not a guitar player? The amp isn't the problem here....a master can make even the shittiest gear sound amazing.
@@nickhartman6372 Okay, I am not only referring to the amp, but most of the gear overall, the recording just sounds shitty, bass is literally lost and can hardly be heard on most of the tracks. Jasons guitar just cuts off mid School and shit like that, most of it isn't directly his fault and for example Kurt completely messes up Polly.
This is what happens when you murder guitars. You should go to guitar jail but i guess being made to stand there and not play anything looking like a douche is a punishment a little. Nirvana was my favorite band in highschool, and I used to blow up amps and stuff in my kinda shitty punk rock band and I wasn't disturbed when other people killed guitars but its pretty disturbing to me in my old age. I've held many guitars and they bring something out when I play individually to them. They got their own souls ya know? Whats worse, im pretty sure kurt knew that too. I guess its not really a big deal im just surprised how much I grown not to wanna see that happen at some point.
Relax, it was probably just some shitty broken strat bought from a pawn shop.
@@xxxx-jh5vc its not a super big deal but I consider it a waste just the same. Its like killing a crippled person. They wouldn't get much done but its still kinda wrong to smash them. One soul shouldn't be more valuable than any other.
@Daniel Lim its a damn shame though. The guitars are innocent. I heard from reading a bunch stuff like from Earnie Bailey his guitar tech that there was two modes of destruction and the crew knew it. They show was on its second half and it really really really really bad show, "Oh no theyre gonna break some shit tonight....." but when it was like an awesome everyone was like "aw HELL YEAH they're gonna break some shit tonight!!" I dont know exactly what was going on in their heads but I know it was more about stress than performance but either way I still think its wrong to murder a guitar even when its really fucking awesome.
@@legatomodi3522 it's a literal inanimate object

Shit. Sorry Mike J wherever you are. I accidentally deleted your comment. I meant to reply to it and i accidentally deleted it. Sorry man!! And yes, jason did suck. He was a little off time at points and his guitar made the set sound like shit
Yeah
It would have been really great if after Jason started playing the beginning riff to school kurt said fuck man just give it to me and took Jason’s guitar
Do you know why kurt didn’t have a guitar?
@@queenanneslace5085 And then re-string it to left, if even possible. Too much crap to deal with. Maybe Kurt wanted to try. Max Cavalera did shows without guitar at the beginning of Sepultura and even later was happy if he could do so a song or two.
