Ina Ho reminds me of Caffe Crema and Kelp Tea reminds me of Scarecrow by Wearinguel (it tends to look green while it's wet and then dries brown). Dusted Truffle was one of my favorites from the Invkent calendar. Lie de Thé will always be one of my favorite inks.❤
Honestly I think including the borderline "not-actually-brown" browns is actually really helpful, because it helps define the boundaries of where browns start to become other colours.
Colours just can look very different depending on context, some of these might look a bit out of place, or more brown specifically, if lined up against what looks to be their colour category here.
Thank you for swatching all of these lovely brown inks, Karyna! I am new to the world of fountain pens and inks so i especially love it when i can see so many variations on one particular colour!!! I also really enjoyed your enthusiasm and fondness for swatching. I find the warmest shades and the pinky - browns really appeal to me ☺️🧡🤎
I love the browns, especially the pinky browns. I like the various ideas of browns. I really enjoyed the greenish browns. Green is not one of my favorite colors but finding green browns is really exciting. I put several of these on my want list. One of my favorite browns is SRBE brown. I think several other commenters mentioned it as well. I loved your exploration video.
I’m just starting to explore different colours. Some really lovely inks in this selection to add to my growing list. Thank you for taking the time to do these swatches.
I completely agree with you about Kelp Tea. I put that sample in several pens trying to figure it out. Very interesting ink shade. I love Biyori in my flex nib pens and it still surprises me how rosy it is. Dusted Truffle is perfection in my Pelikan m400 white tortoise. My ef nib has no difficulty with the shimmer because it writes so wet. Other browns in my collection I recommend are Diamine Macassar which is a beautiful deep brown, Diamine Golden Brown is exactly as it sounds and is not too pale, and 3 Oysters Mustard is a warmer mid-tone brown that leans a bit drier than Diamine but not as much as Sailor Studio inks. I love your selection of almost browns in this round-up and want to say the grouping makes perfect sense to me as my collection and thought process is quite similar (:
I love this! I find the shade variations so fascinating, not just among the different inks but even the difference within 1 ink sample after it’s tried. I’m adding Yule Log and Dusted Truffle in my wish list of inks to try. ❤

Great overview and I have a few in my shopping cart ☺️ I‘m glad you included also the brown who could be a green etc. Everyone defines colors differently and you included all 👌
Thank you! After doing this video, I realized there were a couple of browns in my collection that I missed, but it was important to include the "almost" browns, too!
I love that you compared all these inks. One, it helps me decide if there is one I want to try and I get to experience it without spending the money on an ink that would disappoint. The fact some are "not" brown is even better. This helps that the name may not be indicative of the actual color. Still, it helps us all learn more about the inks out there.
I didn't think I would love browns as much as I do...one of my all time favourites is Dominant Industry Ginger Chicken...beautiful for sure brown :P with super nice shading
I’m trying to love brown inks, but they aren’t my favorite. I’ve tried several. The one I thought I would like most, Monteverde Pumpkin Cake, I used once for making a swatch and then the next time I opened the bottle, it was practically dried out. Lol. That said, I have been using a mixture of DeAtramentis Document Yellow with a touch of Document Brown and Fuschia, to make a Golden Brown. It’s close to color if Diamine Honey Burst, and is my journaling ink of 2024. I have the Inkvent and that Weeping Willow is very cool chromoshading, on swatches, but didn’t even work legibly in my wettest tuned pen. I guess it’s made more for art.
I totally get it. Brown isn't for everyone, and wasn't for me for the longest time. I've heard Weeping Willow is not a great writer but I'm looking forward to trying it for painting.
A beautiful, everyday reddish brown is Divine Design's Bordeaux, available in cartridges - and bottle! Similar reds from Diamine are Ancient Copper (lighter, more redish) and Red Dragon (darker) besides the nice Cocoa Shimmer you showed.
How interesting! I have that stamp waiting at my Mom's in the US too! I love the way you are using it! Whatever you say is brown is brown to you, I think that is all that matters.
I had to laugh, I have literally just stumbled upon Everyday Explorers Co stamps/digital printables through another pen friend and used them in my May 2024 Currently Inked that I uploaded today and then came across your video that you put up 2 weeks ago LOL ;) Brown is a colour that I never thought I would be drawn to, but now seem to have quite a few brown inks in my collection and loving them! Beautiful swatching, thank you so much for sharing Karyna and have a great week :)
Thank you Jayne! I love Everyday Explorers stamps - but yes, shipping out of the US was expensive. I have more brown inks than I thought I did! Thanks for watching!
My daily writer has had Lie de Thé since the start and thanks to your video I'll try to get the Weeping Willow a try in it. Browns are tricky, I even have some clothes that change color depending on the light from green to brown.
I really enjoyed this ink exploration. When I swatch my inks side by side like you've done here, I also question whether or not certain ones "belong" in the color group. I think this happens when you put inks next to each other. Here are a few "brown" inks I like: Ferris Wheel Press Oyster Hour, Diamine Sepia, Van Dieman's Summer Tiger Snake, and J.Herbin Caroube de Chypre.
This was very enjoyable. I think Brown-Pink is its own color category. 😊 I would recommend you add to your collection Montblanc Toffee Brown, Robert Oster Melon Tea and Papier Plume Pecan. They are warm browns with interesting character.
Thank you for making this video! Browns and Greens are my largest color collections. I would recommend trying Akkerman's SBRE Brown, Taccia's Tsuchi Golden Wheat, Vinta Fortaleza, and Diamine Espresso (for sketching and watering down)
I'm partial to Sailor Rikyu-cha (and green-toned browns in general). I'd guess it's probably like a darker, more well behaved version of Weeping Willow. (I also have and like Ina-ho and Kelp Tea.)

I have Sennelier “Walnut” that carries a strong brown (without shimmer) probably closest to the Diamine walnut, and holds up well in writing. I would have expected anything labeled “octopus” would go closer to the sepia tones of real octopus ink.
Thank you for this! I just got the TWSBI Eco Caffe Bronze stub 1.1. I'm searching for browns with some sheen or shimmer. I'm leaning towards Diamine Yule Log and FWP Workshop Wishes. Hoping to find samples here in the Philippines. Also looking for ink that resembles rose gold with sheen or shimmer for my new TWSBI diamond mini white rose gold stub 1.1. Thinking Diamine Dusted Truffle might be the one! This would make a great series! Tied into new pen releases - inks to match! Or seasonal colors. Nah, i think these are all valid swatches. It's agree the caramels look orange vs brown, and the nah humbug is dark red, but it's hard to judge from bottles and I think having those outliers included gives some context to hues of the other swatches.
Ok so I do not like Brown just on principle, but looking at your definition of brown I am gonna say that I love brown! The more dusky pink leaning browns. And now I have several that I need to try! lol 🤎
Brown ink lover here--a friend said you posted this and the first thing she thought when she saw it was "oh, a video for Sarah." I personally love that you include inks from all over the spectrum in your ink explorations. It's called "ink exploration," not "super-rigid-and-accurate ink cataloguing." The Brown Ink Police are not going to come to your house and take away all your brown inks. And really, all of them had shades of brown or were just different enough to highlight something about brown, so I think they belong here. A couple inks I know you have but were not included here are Teranishi Guitar Opera Rose and Taccia Ume-Murasaki. I personally would classify those as pink and purple respectively, but I've seen them marketed and talked about as brown (Cult Pens even sells Ume-Murasaki as brown.) Do you think they'd belong on this page? My favourite browns right now are Yule Log, which I've just tried for the first time after finding a heavily-discounted green Inkvent, Robert Oster Caffe Crema, Pilot Iroshizuku Yama-Guri, and Ferris Wheel Press Writing Desk (the Wonder Pens exclusive.) In the orange-brown category, I love Dominant Industry Ginger Chicken, Diamine Ancient Copper, and was surprised to really dig Monteverde Giraffe after getting a sample. A brown I think is super underappreciated that you might really like is De Atramentis Maria Montessori...it has a purple undertone that reminds me of some of the inks you've highlighted as among your faves. I bought it solely because I went to Montessori school as a kid, but ended up really liking the colour, which I never hear anyone talk about. I have Pick Me Up inked right now, and after that I'm looking forward to Dusted Truffle. For the 2023 Inkvent, I want to try Walnut and Weeping Willow mixed together and see if the wetness of one helps the dryness of the other a bit. Browns I want to try are: Ina-Ho and Tsukushi...RIP Teranishi Guitar Antique Black, which seems to dry to more of a brown-black, and Travelling Sepia Robert Oster Chocolate There was a Vinta ink that Snarky Wordsworth swatched recently that I can't remember the name of that was like a dark brown with gold shimmer. So that one. FWP Workshop Wishes Sailor Kitsune-Biyori Anderillium Tolype Moth Warm, based solely on this video Van Dieman's Kitten Paws, based solely on the name Colorverse Coffee Break Basically all the browns from Diamine I haven't tried yet Monteverde Brown Sugar and Scotch Brown Akkerman's SBRE Brown and honestly, is there a brown I wouldn't want to try yet? Probably not! Maybe KWZ Brown Pink because it's neither
Thank you for taking the time to comment! It is so true, especially within the fountain pen ink world. We can have such variations within one colour and it's so interesting to see all of that. No, I was considering adding Teranishi Opera Rose and Taccia Ume-Murasaki and didn't think of them until after. I would probably have added them just for comparison. I also want to try FWP Writing Desk! And thank you for the suggestions - definitely adding those to my list.
a lovely lot of inks Karyna 🤎🤎 IMO a colour is what the person sees so you have 18 or so brown inks. My favs are Yule Log & Dusted Truffle & Stonecutter's Song. Thank you for sharing 🤩
