Well, Doctor, the patient was born with a deficiency and the operation I performed on the patient unfortunately didn't improve his condition 😅

I replied: Well, I understood, actually demonstrated, that it was designed to go into an US outlet - and won't fit into a European one. So it was of absolutely no use to me. Anyway (I'm assuming here you're in Russia and not the US) do you really want to buy an USB charger for US outlets? Surly you mean you want to buy an USB charger, but not exactly that model.

I just bought this charger (EU Type) as a cheap travel charger for when i am travelling in Europe. I had a cheap unbranded one i was using but it gets stupidly hot and it makes me nervous one day it'll set on fire. I dont like using adapters when traveling as it's something else to take along. I liked this charger can accept type C and type A cables to charge my various devices. i only ever charge one device at a time, and this great tear down puts my mind at ease that the safety side (i.e. good isolation and onboard fuse etc) is acceptable. Thank you for the video, it has been very helpful 🙂

You're welcome! And yes, there were no obvious safety issues with that thing. As long as you're using only one port at a time everything should be fine.

I wish you had actually tested it before you tore it apart. Now we’ll never know. Now I have to find another video to see how it works

Sorry, but I don't have the equipment to put USB chargers through their paces. I think that guy makes quite good USB charger reviews: ruclips.net/video/sp8PDgrh_IM/видео.htmlsi=6LedtJG32FuKVFAX (power, voltage, noise).

I think it's possible that it does meet the specs, if you interpret them a bit generously. 35W on the USB-C or 30W on the USB-A at 12V or 20V, but if you plug both in then it drops down to 5V for both with a total max current of 3.4A (or 17W). Of course, just because that's possible, doesn't mean that it actually meets those specs. Do you see any reason not to use this charger to charge a single device at a time?

Besides the s... display, it should be fine for charging a single USB device.

The MK2788 chip on the mains voltage side appears to contain a GaN FET, so that part of the advertising seems to be correct... The complete ripoffs with a cheap 5V2A adapter inside are usually completely unbranded. It appears that EUR 10 to 15 can buy an actual GaN charger. Pity the output ports weren't tested on this one. I've got a cheap 65W GaN charger that I just tried, and it will simultaneously supply 20V or 9V to one port and 5V to the other, according to the PD or QC profiles negociated. Plugging in an extra consumer does blink the other ports, but that's merely an annoyance.
There's a lot of crap out there, but I've also had store-brand chargers fail me big time.
Thanks for the teardown, it goes to show that there are lots of things to test when evaluating chargers, and checking if the negociation actually is per-port wasn't on my list yet...

You're welcome! Testing USB chargers is not really my forte. I don't have any of the required equipment (USB dummy loads, USB protocol emulators etc.). My nephew got that thing at Christmas in a Amazon surprise/return box. Since it was completely unusable in Germany (wrong plug, wrong mains AC voltage), it was destined to end up in my slaughterhouse 😅

Ainope is a brand to look at. They make some very nice aluminium body USB-PD car chargers.

Thanks for the tip, but it seems Ainope no longer makes wall warts: ainope.com/collections/wall-charger

I believe they are manufactured by the same group as Toocki and Essager.

You're probably right. I found an Essager model that looks almost the same (but for European wall sockets).

Why exactly are you breaking a reasonably good charger? An adapter from us tu eu probably 2 euros 🤣😂🙈

    • @robertssmorgasbord
      @robertssmorgasbord  7 месяцев назад +3

You're the second person to call that thing a reasonably/perfectly good charger. Well, I beg to differ. It will probably charge a single device without any problem. But connecting to devices will cause problems (as explained in the video). But that's just my opinion. And I for example wouldn't use an US to EU adapter for 2€ 😅
