Here is a simple and cheap technique for moving the steering servo up the front. This is much better than the original setup plus looks cleaner.

Great video. The main problem is the wire spring they give you. The wire stretches and doesn't retain it's shape. I just put ca on mine and glued it solid. Most crawlers are solid. You can use a Tamiya Servo saver which works really good on a Bruiser. The shifting servo seems fine for now but I may change it.
Thanks for the video! Nice upgrade to the steering!
My P407 has really poor steering as well. Actually it barely turned right. I like to save money so I didn’t order or make a new bracket. The length of the rod between the servo and the steering linkage isn’t the problem. There a couple of issues. One issue imo is basically the more joints you have that has even a tiny bit of play will add up to a big amount of play but what I saw at least in my truck was the servo saver. There’s way too much play. So all I did was removed the servo saver and put a regular servo horn on the stock servo. Because the stock servo isn’t waterproof it’s good that it’s up high and in the box. Huge improvement in my steering. I don’t do competitive rock crawling, just trails and crawling on rocks here and there and it works fine and I only used a spare servo horn I had in the parts bin.
Keep up the great videos! Love watching them! You do a great job!
Much appreciated brother
Like Stevo D said, they should have set it up like that from the factory. Your set up is a 1,000 times better. 👏👏👏👏
Thanks bro, glad you liked it
You can move the steering arm to the opposite side of the truck like you tried. Just move the shocks to the opposite side of the axle. That way your steering rod is straighter.
Thanks for the info bro
Exactly what I did
This is a good upgrade, not sure if I want to keep mine stock for nostalgia reasons... It would even be better if you made a new bracket that came off the steering knuckle facing forwards to eliminate the angle of the steering tie rod off the servo. Nice work!
great mod i had one of these laying around and it was perfect size for tie rod "Traxxas TRA3738A Blue Aluminum Rear Camber Link Turnbuckle 49mm Rustler/Stampede"
Awesome
Id be curious to see the difference that just removing the servo saver would make. When you were wiggling the steering back and forth it looked like the majority of the slop was coming from there.
Nope it's gear slop within the servo.
@@RCTanksTrucks247 oh wow... Thats pretty bad.
Yes ur right if you tighten the servo saver spring nearly all the slop goes
@@savie62 that's good to hear. I rewatched the slop showing segment a bunch of times and thought I was going crazy because it really looks like there's a ton of play in the saver.
@@DoRC Yep it's nearly all servo saver I took spring off tightened it with moll grips so.it fits really tightly hardly any slop now at all but yes servo saver it's the main problem
Wow! Thats a big improvement over the original version!😎👍
It reminds so much of High school days....Almost all the guys had mini trucks..
We lift it and mount sleeper cap..Late 70's early 80 toyota.
Center line Rims. The sleepers were for a couple of 12" sub woofers.lol
The used SR5 were the ones to get ...if you can afford it.
That's becuase it had a V6 and 4x4 already..So it was easier to do a suspension
lift. You needed double shocks to handle the over sized wheels and tires...
Even the tube bumpers were like that too....You install the nurf bar for your GF.lmao
You;re truck is pretty close to scale..now that I had a closer look.
The other 4X4 full size people were doing was the 69 March I body mounted
on a chevy frame.
Swap front hubs from let to right and front bracket works after you relocate shocker as well
Nice neat mod. I will get one of these rigs soon! Not sure if the camera angle is deceiving me or not but it looks like the clearance from the diff pumpkin to the servo horn could be an issue. Can they contact each other when the suspension is fully compressed, if you land a jump nose first?
Very nice brotha I wanted to buy that RC but when I saw the slop on the steering I was discouraged but now I like with that setup. Did find the link for the bracket?
Thanks bro, much appreciated.
I will see if I can find the link.
I just got mine, and at least on mine, a lot of that slop you see at the end of the video is from the front hubs; the recess for the bearings is too large and there is a lot of play in there. A shim of some type, some guys are using a layer of tape around the bearing, will snug things up nicely.
Nice solution...got a link for the bracket?
Thanks, unfortunately I don't think it is sold any more. I have looked but with no luck
Nice work on the crawler
Thanks
Such a crazy spot for the original servo to sit, so far back no wonder it has slop, but very needed upgrade for sure, they should’ve had made this bracket n mounted the servo like this from the start, sweet should be much better Steve n thanks for sharing my brotha 👍😎
Weird ay but classic 80's. This is a simple and easy way to make it like all the modern RC's.
hi mate, good vid, what about doing one locking the diffs?
Thanks, the diffs are easily lockable with the included grub screw.
if you have trouble threading the lock pin, turn the diff over 180 degrees, only one side is threaded. I tore mine down to figure it out
you could make another piece like the steel piece that bolts to the knuckle for steering and make it longer to clear the shock,or you could move the shock behind the axle, but if you made the steering arm longer it would get more leverage with a weaker servo.
where did you get the bracket? I love it!!!!
Hey mate, I got a it from ebay but unfortunately it isn't available now.
Nice job Steve!
Cheers Ben
Nice video 👍
Do you know with the original bruiser if it’s normal that front wheels won’t spin backwards when it’s in second and top gear. I know that there are one way bearings in the front.but I thought you still can reverse in second and top gear
Every time need to reverse I have to shift it in to low gear.
It you can please let me know if this is normal with the original bruiser model
Thumbs up to you my man. Well done!
Thanks for the visit
swap the knuckles from left to right and then you can use that little arm that you wanted... but you'll have to move your show to the other mount hole on the leaf spring clamp.. Sorry
I'm 5 years too late... but that is what I did.
Cheers man
Great video Steve, thanks for sharing 👍😁👍
Thanks man
Hey brother any luck finding the link for the front mounted steering servo? Great video btw. Subscribed
Nah m,an, I have been looking ay, it must have been a limited run. I will keep looking though.
Great vid. Do u have a 12mm conversion kit on their. If so where did u get it.
RC4WD sels one.
I bet the stock servo has gear slop from what you have shown. I use Hitec servos in all mine and barely have any movement in stock form. I used a Traxxas servo in my new 2012 Bruiser. I did buy the kit in this HG407 Clone, I'll use a Traxxas servo for steering and shifting.
Yeah man, definitely does have gear slop, cheap servo. I will be changing when it dies.
Do you have the link to the servo btacket?
Great mod buy the way
Nope unfortunately the guy I brought it of doesn't do them any more
can you send me the link of the servo plate? thank you
I've got a re-release Bruiser but haven't gotten round to building it, might just get one of these. Did you find out about the servo bracket?
I looked, doesn't look like that person makes them any more unfortunately
Good stuff!
Thanks
I can't believe no one or company has not made a CABLE system , no slop and no bump steer. A cable would look like a hydraulic brake line , not intrusive at all.
Capo racing does a cable system on some of their crawlers. I guess it more the fact of how much it would cost.
Everything from China costs pennies on the dollar , this truck is made in China , someone should fire them an email suggestion ....and widen that front axle LOL.. then I'll take two of them !
Great video, thanks very much! Just what I was looking for. I’ll try making a bracket out of some metal I have lying around. I thought I was going to have to order a special bracket but you showed me I only need an “L” shaped bracket which is great. I appreciate your common sense approach to things.
May I ask, have you had problems with your wheels? With only very light short trips on grass I’ve had two wheels break. The part of the rim where the three screws go through just snapped off, like the plastic is kind of soft or porous. I fixed one wheel by gluing washers to reinforce the holes but this is really odd. The rest of the truck is great so far but haven’t been able to really test it thoroughly due to the wheel breakages.
Thanks for all your great videos!
Hi, did you find a link for the servo bracket? Cheers, Pat
Do a video on locking diffs
How is the suspension travel? Does the new link get in the way?
Nope, from memory it was fine. I don't have it any more
You recommended a half mm washer for the servo bracket, what size is that in inches? Thanks in advanced
Yeah umm, I believe the correct terminology is "a bee's dick"
did you ever find a link for the bracket? maybe you should 3d print some and make a few bucks out of it?
Unfortunately not, think they stopped making it
I just saw a guy making one from 1 inch aluminium L shaped bracket ... just need the actual measurements and you could knock ou loads
Where did you buy the front mount servo mount from?
Was originally on ebay but you can't get it any more
@@RCTanksTrucks247 I see. Thanks for the info
Which one would you recommend, the hg P407 or rgt 86100? I'm thinking to get my first crawler
Definitely the RGT, great handling and performs really well
@@RCTanksTrucks247 Thanks for your reply! And one last question, I have Remo 1093 in my list as well, which one is better compare with rgt 86100? LOL, sorry for asking too many question😅
Please, where can you find those servo brackets?? :)
Don't think they are available now
Does any make this as a aftermarket part?
I will see if I can find it
Know if you can run a nimh battery ?
what mount is that from oe did you create it? Thanks!!!
It was originally purchased from eBay but is not available any more. I have looked around.
Can you post accurate measurements of the bracket so we can make our own?
Get a piece of angle aluminum and cut it down to fit .
Would a 3mm x 41 mm turn buckle be the correct size as you mentioned you had to cut off 5mm.
Do you know what size plastic ends are required?
Hmm not too sure. I don't have it any more so I can't check it out for you.
very nice good video👍👍
Thanks 🙏
Hey nice video :)
Thanks
Who makes this bracket?
Not sure, was purchased ages ago
Whear can i buy one?
Have a link to servo mount?
No sorry
Have you got a link to the servo bracket.
Let me see if I can find it
Who makes the Servo bracket?
Not sure, I have tried to find it but with no luck
you put the tires on backwards
*so frustrated*
There's a much easier bolt on mounting system but I cant find the bracket making templates. It seems the RC community has lost a lot of the DIY bruiser mods in the past 6-7 years since I've been playing with mopeds... there was a template you printed out to scale then trimmed and glues to some aluminum plate then cut out the plate drilled the holes then bent the angles and bingo bango you had two plates that would bolt onto the chassis rail mounts for the front cross member no drilling in the original parts required... I'm still digging. I saw someone selling them on ebay recently
Never seen it although this is a pretty simple and easy. Only two holes need to be drilled.
steve i don't think Tamiya products are expensive as you know Tamiya have very detailed models that have been running for years Traxxas, on the other hand, are very expensive at least in the uk
Yeah they are detailed but in my opinion falling behind with innovation. So many new and great manufacturers now that offer better value and the quality and detail is there to.
front tyries has not true way
China HPG ! Continue to buy HPG and to finance Russian war in Ukrain and the future Taiwan war !
NO. Buy the only Japon Tamiya Bruiser 🙂🙂🙂
Riiiight
Its 4am and a good time to rc..📻🏎
Any time is a great time for RC 😀
I can get one of these no controller or esc but brand new for $200 people are selling it they cant out it together. I have plenty of extras but think it would be fun to ha e something this durable.
👍
Is it possible to use a 3s lipo with this car?
