    I can confirm the use of 4th Gen OD green jungle uniforms use while on active duty. I’m a retired Army Infantryman and while stationed at Ft. Campbell, KY from Jan 86-Dec 93 we were issued two sets of them from CIF to be used for field training only. So if anyone ever says there was no such thing, point them in my direction. We didn’t always wear them for field training, we did if we were on an opposing force so we were easier to identify. We were also issued standard Vietnam era OD green jungle boots which many of us wore in both the field and the rear. During the colder months we’d wear thicker boots for obvious reasons, the jungle boots sucked in the snow. When our unit participated in Operation Ocean Venture in 86, we wore only our OD green jungles and spent days walking through the jungle on Vieques Island near Puerto Rico, we’d always roll up each cuff 2 times to get the heat to vent off but never rolled up high, the arms would get hammered with bugs or foliage and every plant there seemed to have a thorn on it, the black palm was the WORST, avoid that at all costs, lol.

    The slots on the top of the chest pockets were for radiation dosimeters. They were also used to loop whistle lanyards for field leaders who used whistles.

    Can we identify the year of the shirt thru the tag?

      Yes, if the large interior tag in the waist area of the shirt is present, it usually has a DSA contract date. However, the 1st pattern version and some of the 2nd version (1963-1964) predate the use of the DSA contract dates.

    Why does first pattern poplin uniform with the 2nd Lt insignia and the the big red one patch ,have airborne jump wings? When the big red one was not a airborne unit?

      Some times you'll find soldiers who are airborne qualified, but attached to non-airborne units. In this case, as far as I know, Lt. Buchanan never served with any airborne units during his career in the US Army (I think he was in the US Army for about five years). It's kind of like soldiers who are ranger qualified, but not attached to ranger units.

    Whats the purpose for epaulets on a combat shirt?

    • @ricsamaniego6257
      @ricsamaniego6257 4 месяца назад

      The main purpose I believe is for them to "button down" all kinds of straps and bags under the epaulets so that they won't slide down from your shoulder all the time.
