    Thanks of the great video .... I had RT-AC5300 and RT-AC88U , which one to set as AiMesh node . For RT-AC88U during SSID setup there is a small box for option to tick separete the 5GHz and 2.4GHz ( if no tick will be auto ) , what about RT-AC5300 SSID setup , I can't find the small box option ( I prefer the auto function ) . Tri Band to Dual Band or Dual Band to Tri Band setup ... Please advise

    I purchased the asus GT ROG a/c5300 router because I wanted the fastest wifi I could get . I pay for 300mbps/20mbps from my ISP. First off, the router worked beautifully! DL speed was getting 245. I was cool with that. Then, I noticed the prompt for a firmware update. After I updated the firmware , the router took a complete dump! I could not get any speed greater than 12mbps DL. I was pissed! I took it back to Frys and got my $400 back. I then purchased the lesser RT5300 as featured in this video. I also paired it with the Asus PCE AC88 network card. OMG< my sh$t is fast! I had a party at my house and 30 connections to the 2.4ghz band. I tested the speed at speedtest.net. My DL on my desktop was consistently 84 to 91mbps DL, and 20 to 23 up. However, on both 5ghz bands, my DL speeds were consistently 295 to 351mbps DL! 24mbps upload. So then, I tried to push it. I opened 25 youtube videos simultaneously, in addition to the 30 guest connections, my son was also online gaming via ps4. I couldn't believe that I was still getting 350mbps on both 5ghz bands. Man, I love this freakin router! Btw..., I'm being prompted to update my firmware but f#ck that sh!t!

      James Johnson I’m definitely getting a new tri-band system here soon. How’s the coverage through the house? I just wish Asus’ pricing on tri-band routers were as good as the Nighthawk tri-bands. But I’m trying to focus on Asus due to their AiMesh software.

    I Just bought an ac88u. I’m going through hell trying to connect this to the internet. The connection wasn’t auto detected, so I’m trying to configure the wan. After entering my PPPoE on vdsl nothing happens. I rebooted, and still the router can’t connect, even though the DSL light is on an the service is live. I’ve connected and disconnected. And Asus tech support only takes email, you can’t talk directly with technicians, you can only talk to low level technical staff that deals with basic issues

    Router manufactures, can you please add Micro SD slot to ALL your upcoming routers as the Micro SD storage is in upwards of 1 Terabyte and growing. It is a lot more convenient to store data on tiny Micro SD card than a huge hard drive.

    • @Soulcommander
      @Soulcommander 7 лет назад

      well what about a USB thumb-drive dude? most routers have USB slots

    • @sukhjitjosen1341
      @sukhjitjosen1341 7 лет назад

      Soulcommander true, but they stick outwards and have the chance of damaging the port. Micro SD card will not have that problem.

    • @Soulcommander
      @Soulcommander 7 лет назад +1

      you have to be realistic here yes a USB thumb drive might stick out but not going to be carrying the router around bumping the thumb drive so I don't think you have to worry about that so much. LOL

    • @sukhjitjosen1341
      @sukhjitjosen1341 7 лет назад

      Soulcommander you have a point. But micro sd will serve a better purpose for storing data in a stationary device. Think about it, USB drives get damaged all the time. Pop that card in, n You have a dedicated file server. Hell even a cloud server. Lol

    • @merlinsxbeard
      @merlinsxbeard 7 лет назад +3

      The memory used to create SD cards is literally one of the most unreliable forms on memory on the market (hence the reason it's so cheap). Whether they add a port or not is not my call, but don't be surprised if they don't b/c there's a reason computers don't use them as primary storage.

      Because all routers have about the same range. Its the law of diminishing returns. You want your router to be powerful but you dont want to get cancer standing next to it, and so all routers end up having about the same range. Use a repeater if you want more range.

    These are way too expensive for me. I just bought an Asus RT-AC66U router. Its still sealed sitting here on my desk, I'll get it up and running this weekend. I hope it will be a good performer for me, never had an Asus router before. I also have an Asus laptop (www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834232923&cm_re=ASUS_Laptop_P2520LA-_-34-232-923-_-Product) ordered from Amazon (Newegg shows item in stock, but I can't order because on the phone Newegg says it isn't in stock with no ETA on any new stock; but yet the website still says it is in stock as I write this!) Hello Newegg, update your website. Rant over, I hope these new Asus products work well for me and don't let me down.

      I want to also mention ( after purchasing the RT-AC88U AC3100), I came to realize that Asus eliminated the port LEDs that you'd most certainly have on a giga-switch, and was on their previous top of the line routers. That's right, you have no way now to see if a port is working/failing (either due to a port failure or a signal loss at the PC or the cabling) - not through lights or software. This concerns me especially because my first 68U lost a port and I had to send it back under warranty. That failure would have been very difficult to diagnose had there been no LEDs.
