R4 and RR5 where the games that me snd my step dad bonded over back in the day.
I love this game, one of the first PS2 games I bought in my younger days. It was an incredible experience, and great arcade racing game.
Visually, I'd still say the graphics have held up and that it looks good to this day!

Cheers, glad you enjoyed the video, yea i've played loads of racing games over the years, still play loads & the Ridge Racer series is among my favorites. I just love cars in general so getting to play awesome games like this & sharing experiences are well worth it.
HEADS UP! The latest version of the ps2 emulator PCSX2 has finally fixed the graphical issues (white shadow under car, corrupted text on cars) 🙂
This is one of those games that I missed out on on the PS2 after playing all the previous 'RR' titles on the PS1 and now I'm enjoying it rendered at 8k resolution and smooth 60fps!!

Ridge Racer Type 4 and Ridge Racers on PSP are one of my favorite games. Sadly, emulating PS2 games on my current PC is a no go. This looks fun!
Yea this is a cool game, lots of fun with plenty of features, yea trying to get decent emulation on ps2 games, especially racing games can be tough as many glitches can show up but as long as you can get some enjoyment out of it that's all that matters. I'm using a gaming spec PC & can get most games to run good but there are a few I've tested that just don't work.
I very recently got a physical copy of this game for about 5 bucks, had a bit of trouble getting my old PS2 to run it but it was worthy, the music and graphics plus the addictive gameplay make it very good relax with. One criticism that i have is that the grand prix is very long, and since it appears to be the only way to progress, it makes every session a huge time commitment, specially if(like me) you keeo losing and have to replay each track.
Cool, Yea it is a great game & i agree the grand prix is time consuming as it does become increasingly more difficult the further you progress which will add to the frustration as you really have to be on top of your game to have a chance at winning races later on.
so ps1 got 4 episodes of ridge racer and then ps2 has only this one. WHY ?
Yea that is a question that we will probably never get an answer to as RR5 is a epic game, its a shame that we never got sequels on the ps2, there are a few games on the PSP & i have been playing Ridge Racer 2 as it was recently added to the PS5 recently & that is a cool game, really enjoying it but the PS2 should have gotten more games for sure.
Ridge Racer needs to come back in the PS5
I agree, there needs to be a new Ridge Racer game & one that reflects the theme of the earlier games like this.
@@PS2GamingMemories a few years ago Ace Combat and SoulCalibur made a comeback. sad that Ridge Racer did not come out as well because those two games sold pretty well after the IPs being dormant for a few years
I agree, its weird to see why so many popular franchises have been left to rot in limbo, maybe the dev's or more likely the big companies don't see a future with them as they probably feel that new games won't make much money so they look for other alternatives, but they should reconsider as many of these IPs are crying out for new entries as there are a lot of fans like myself that would be excited by them.
Is it possible to run this game on ps5?
Not that i currently know of.
