It’s discouraging. I’m not wealthy, and I have to pay for my purchases. Morally and ethically I will. I’ll do without, not steal. This is not a good thing for our country. They are working on it, the governor has already addressed the issue repeatedly, by saying there is no magic wand that the government can wave to fix the issue. There are lots of opinions about how to fix the issue, like transferring all wind and flood insurance to the state, kind of like National Flood Insurance, this would allow insurance companies to focus only on standard policies without the risk of being wiped out after a hurricane for instance., which will allow more companies to come to Florida and there to be market competition. The problem is that you can't take an action like that without a revenue stream to fund it and it has to be within the scope of the State's right to do so. I don't know what the answer is but, I currently don't have insurance and have opted for an emergency bank account instead, but I own my home and don't have a mortgage.
I live about 35 miles from the Gulf, south of Houston. My homeowners' insurance went from around $1,400 in 2022 to $1,900 in 2023 and then to $3,300 (proposed) in 2024...all without any claims since I moved to the Houston area from Wisconsin in 2007. Ike didn't get me. Harvey didn't get me. And we've had no hurricanes since the latter in 2017, although every year, Chicken Little runs around in circles on local weather broadcasts. I'm dropping hurricane, wind and hail coverage to lower that $3,300 to less than $600. Since the deductible for that catastrophic coverage is nearly $12,000 in addition to the $2,700 additional premium for it, I've got nearly $15,000 "in escrow" should I need to replace my roof. My home is brick veneer and it came with galvanized shutters for every window and door and bolts built into every window frame, with matching wingnuts. When a "cone of uncertainty" gets more certain, I can have them all up in a few hours. To me, I can be ready for a big blow off of the Atlantic. Those poor folks from Dallas to Xenia, Ohio, can't prepare for a twister. (Hail and tornadoes, this close to the ocean, are rare and I've seen NEITHER in 17 years and I think I can replace a few windows for less than the $11,637 deductible and NOT have a claim on my record, either.) EDIT: for those unfamiliar with brick veneer, it's REAL brick, not a cheap applique. It's called "veneer" because the brick and mortar are installed instead of wood/cement board/aluminum/steel/vinyl siding or stucco. A brick building is supported by the brick. A veneer brick building is supported both by sticks under and bricks over. And the builder left a stack of hundreds of matching bricks along with the shutters in my garage. (It took hours to restack both to get them out of the way!)

Thank you so much Governor. I was at Ollie’s and seen a lot of empty packages. Another customer took the packages up to the front and she said “this happens”. 2 employees for the whole store. It’s discouraging. I’m not wealthy, and I have to pay for my purchases. Morally and ethically I will. I’ll do without, not steal. This is not a good thing for our country. Thank you again and all the officers that help keep us safe.

But as you noted, people are stealing out of the packages with only two employees at that Olies’s. Not walking out with cart full or bags full of products like in Blue cities and states where nothing happens to them. I think he is doing something, there are 5 or 6 new insurance companies coming to Florida!
They are working on it, the governor has already addressed the issue repeatedly, by saying there is no magic wand that the government can wave to fix the issue. There are lots of opinions about how to fix the issue, like transferring all wind and flood insurance to the state, kind of like National Flood Insurance, this would allow insurance companies to focus only on standard policies without the risk of being wiped out after a hurricane for instance., which will allow more companies to come to Florida and there to be market competition. The problem is that you can't take an action like that without a revenue stream to fund it and it has to be within the scope of the State's right to do so. I don't know what the answer is but, I currently don't have insurance and have opted for an emergency bank account instead, but I own my home and don't have a mortgage.

I live about 35 miles from the Gulf, south of Houston. My homeowners' insurance went from around $1,400 in 2022 to $1,900 in 2023 and then to $3,300 (proposed) in 2024...all without any claims since I moved to the Houston area from Wisconsin in 2007. Ike didn't get me. Harvey didn't get me. And we've had no hurricanes since the latter in 2017, although every year, Chicken Little runs around in circles on local weather broadcasts. I'm dropping hurricane, wind and hail coverage to lower that $3,300 to less than $600. Since the deductible for that catastrophic coverage is nearly $12,000 in addition to the $2,700 additional premium for it, I've got nearly $15,000 "in escrow" should I need to replace my roof. My home is brick veneer and it came with galvanized shutters for every window and door and bolts built into every window frame, with matching wingnuts. When a "cone of uncertainty" gets more certain, I can have them all up in a few hours. To me, I can be ready for a big blow off of the Atlantic. Those poor folks from Dallas to Xenia, Ohio, can't prepare for a twister. (Hail and tornadoes, this close to the ocean, are rare and I've seen NEITHER in 17 years and I think I can replace a few windows for less than the $11,637 deductible and NOT have a claim on my record, either.)
EDIT: for those unfamiliar with brick veneer, it's REAL brick, not a cheap applique. It's called "veneer" because the brick and mortar are installed instead of wood/cement board/aluminum/steel/vinyl siding or stucco. A brick building is supported by the brick. A veneer brick building is supported both by sticks under and bricks over. And the builder left a stack of hundreds of matching bricks along with the shutters in my garage. (It took hours to restack both to get them out of the way!)
