I agree but also the problem about 2D sections is not 2D sections themselves but the execution. Like for example Sonic Colors or Generations. In Generations they made the wrong move by including 2D sections for Modern Sonic when you already have that with Classic Sonic and also they are just not usually fun there. And Colors is just too much 2D when the game clearly shines more in the 3D sections.
I swear that's one thing that turned me off from newer Sonic games, there's way too much 2D in a game that's sold as a 3D. It made sense with Unleashed where it's a callback to the classics but it definitely overstayed it's welcome imo.
Id prefer a boost game with more control, kinda like what they were going for with frontiers. Boost looks better to show case sonics natural ability to speed up, where alot of people just spin dash spam in adventure games. I personally dont care for frontiers because of its story and how janky it was at certain time (along with the same plot per island) but i love that sega is progressing, even trying to experiment with bringing back characters other than sonic. Now just make them actual feel different too (which the adventure games did well)
This really highlights just how strange the design of the Boost games is when you think about it. When you put P-06 Sonic, which has more freeform controls that are a little more typical of a 3D platformer, into these levels, it feels…off. You move much slower, so the long hallway set pieces feels significantly more sluggish. But also when you get to any kind of platforming, you notice how…simple it is. Because the platforming is built around the speed and limitations of the Boost’s racing sim esque controls. You get to blitz through much bigger levels, but your control is less precisely, and the challenges are simplified to accommodate it. Unleashed is probably the hardest boost game yet it’s much easier with P-06’s controls (though admittedly P-06 arguably controls better than any official 3D Sonic game). Yet, putting Unleashed into 06’s levels demonstrates both the limitations AND the appeal of Boost gameplay. Sonic’s platforming is less precise and much more awkward, but by using the Boost cleverly, you can break these stages, in a way that reminds of some of the coolest skips in Generations. And when you get to Mach Speed and how seamlessly the Boost fits into it, you realise that the Boost games replicate the spectacle of 06’s Mach speed setpieces just in their REGULAR gameplay. No wonder people thought it was sick. Boost gameplay is fast, slick, accessible. It has a low skill floor that allows even inexperienced players to feel like a badass. But a high skill ceiling that allows for crazy skips. But seeing the simplicity of even the most complex Boost levels put into focus this way, I can see why Sonic Team made the decision to shift with Frontiers and Shadow Gens into something a little slower, floatier and freeform. Unleashed, Colours and Gens all have some great levels, but this formula is so simplistic that diminishing returns become inevitable at some point. Reworking the controls in Frontiers gave them more freedom in the kinds of levels they could make. And Shadow Gens went very further, to the point that I wonder if a sequel might actually scrap the boost.
6:11 wait does Sonic P-06 has 2D section on it I this stage? And wow I didn't realised But btw this is not a REAL Sonic Unleashed it's Generations SOMETIMES.
imaginen todos los niveles de 06 en unleashed :'0, seria hermoso y perfecto, solo quedaria que nerfeen los niveles nocturnos o que los mejoren a algo mas ritmico u.u
Seemless stages without character swaps?? I wish this was BASE P-06. I need more stages or something for that game so i can enjoy the characters longer without having to swap.
Interesting take on Sonic's history being rewritten correctly or incorrectly depending on how you look at it. What never was is and what was never been or vice versa lol
Wave ocean with unleashed sonic is so damn fun dude especially the Mach speed part expect for the undeniable fact that sometimes it feels slow with unleashed Sonic and wave ocean also how do you have unleashed there isn't a pc port for it
Is there a tutorial somewhere so I can get the Sonic Gens (2011) mods working with Sonic X Shadow Gens? Or am I just out of luck if I didn't get the 2011 version on Steam?
It’s very clear how the level design was catered to each game sonic 06 sonic is insanely slow for unleashed but unleashed sonic isn’t a good platformer which u need to do a lot of in 06
Why are 06 stages such good boost stages? If they remake this game I hope the make it a boost game and also they could’ve just put kv form 06 in shadow gens it would’ve works just fine
boost isnt better overall its better for boost games unleashed isnt built for the movement of 06 and feels sluggish because of it and on the other hand boost isnt built for adventure style levels making the camera feel insanely jarring tldr one isnt better than the other they are going for different things
Well you frontiers whitch is kinda mixing the formula with them bringing back the spin dash but allowing you to level up your speed kinda like how you would have to earn you momentum in adventure games but I like what they had going on in that one in frontiers I just loved the spin dash but I love the boost if you ask me mixing them is the best way to go
more proof that i was justified dodging 06 and leaving the franchise as a kid. whoever thought of the sonic being slow in 06 is crazy. i really think that shadow generations is my most favored way to play sonic thus far. i dont like sonic generations. its way too hard to control. it just feels bad swapping from shadow gens to sonic gens
Unleashed mechanics in STH2006 is the GOAT!
There is no better game with speed phisycs than Unleashed
change the air boost from X to A and i agree
@@chrishaynes1804 mods already did it
3:27 I imagine Shadow himself put that sign there to mark his territory.
Lol. I’ll accept that as an answer
He does seem like the kinda guy to live in a cave
Time traveler: moves a stone in the past.

So, imo, you switched the slowest modern sonic with the fastest modern sonic. It's honestly interesting and fun to watch
One of my favorite things about 06 is that there’s no 2d sections at all and I think 3D Sonic needs to stick to not at all having 2d
Even Sonic Adventure 1 has a FRICKING SINGLE 2d section just to invslidate him here (casino)
@@caymusemilio I 110% agree

YES!!! Finally someone SAID IT! Why does 3D Sonic have so much 2D, Even in Generations where there is LITERALLY A 2D SONIC?

I love how the first one looks like a sonic in unreal demo
Interesting seeing the swap. You can kinda see how the mach speed sections were a sort of prototype for the Unleashed gameplay in this state.
12:44 a version of silver in unleashed?!! I wasn’t expecting that woahhhhh cooollllll!!!!💪🏽😄😆🙌🏽🙌🏽
06 Level design + Unleashed gameplay = Peak
Real Talk 🤜🤛

Dang these mods are cool
adding the mach-speed sections to unleashed 0-6 be like

Amazing video Sonic terminal i love Sonic p06
I feel like for P-06 in particular night stages might work better
The daytime stages work fine, this guy just sucks at P-06

Y que le den crédito a este creador
😊
Seemless stages without character swaps?? I wish this was BASE P-06.
I need more stages or something for that game so i can enjoy the characters longer without having to swap.
this just proves that boost gameplay is good, only needs really good levels or open zones like frontiers and some fix on the precision

Sonic Adventure 3 :o
Also unleashed sonic feels weird in 06 levels
unleashed in 06 really shows how good 06 couldve been
Can you use Silver's mod for Sonicx shadow generations? I want to see Silver's scenes with Maria.
If sonic 06 wasn't rushed and not split up into 2 teams

It's perfect if they make a sonic 06 remake with sonic unleashed gameplay mode
If Sonic 06 was good and Sonic Unleashed was bad. (Not Project 06 btw I mean if it was like this but with the retail version’s physics.)
It’s very clear how the level design was catered to each game sonic 06 sonic is insanely slow for unleashed but unleashed sonic isn’t a good platformer which u need to do a lot of in 06
Sonic 06 sonic is just SO SLOWWW
Sonic 06 is so slow but Sonic Unleashed is a lot faster
pro tip use mach speed sonic using a character swapper mod
Cool
Too bad we didn't get to see crisis city
7:58 Uh…Unleashed Sonic can’t do those moves after a rainbow ring…that’s Generations Sonic.
Im don't care if Sonic 06 is glicth i love this game
Alt title
Sonic Unleashed if it was good vs Sonic 06 if it was bad.
Oh that's nice honey...
Esto solo demuestra que el gameplay y estilo artístico de 06 era malo con ganas
they need to remaster 06 and unleashed with hedgehog engine 3 when it's stable and released
