This episode of a psych doctor REACTS is a TRAINWRECK! As requested, I'm checking out this brilliant episode of It's Always Sunny where the gang have therapy. The gang are a bit of a mess. Dennis is a psychopath. Mac is in the closet at this point and has body dysmorphia. Frank's been in a psychiatric hospital as a child. Dee is constantly berated by the gang so her self-esteem is non-existent. Charlie can't read, drinks bleach and is basically a chaotic toddler in an adult mans body.
The therapist tries her best but ultimately, even she struggles to contain the gang. This episode lets us look at some of the personality traits of the gang but also the practicalities of therapy and the medicine behind it.
Good luck everyone....
"Dennis is probably a psychopath."
How dare you criticise the GOLDEN GOD!!!
Probably?
He's a five star man!
Lol
I know....All he wants to do is fashion Dee's skin into a piece of high-end luggage.
He hasn't even peaked yet!!
"aw bless him, he put the willy pen in his mouth" lmaoo 💀💀💀
So good
that was the joke that got me to subscribe lmao
the way i laughed out at this
Burst out laughing at that. Love it.
Sometimes I'll be in a serious situation and that quote just pops into my head
Frank: this skull is Fort Knox
Also Frank: cracks and starts sobbing in under 30 seconds
All based on one question from the doctor lol
In his defense, she did unzip him.
That’s the part of this episode that always made me die laughing
WITH A PLASTIC BAG FOR A HELMET!!!!!!
where do i find this lithium study from min 1 If i want to impress my Professor with it i need proof or he will disembowel me
I was giggling at almost every clip but when he lost it to Frank “she was always smiling. She had no lips” I absolutely died laughing
It's the way Danny DeVito delivers the line. I doubt I would have laughed the same way if someone else had said it.
But her mouth was still very much in play.
9:25 we all are 😂😂
The sad thing is the state schools he is describing were very real
Personally I see the end where the therapist says fuck it and tells Dee to do the dishes as the quickest way to insure she never sees any of these people ever again. Considering Dee was her only actual patient and we all know Dee never stepped foot back in that office ever again after that decision.
She might jabe made the right decision.
Yep that's how I see it too. Any normal therapist is in WAY over their head with the Gang.
I gotta disagree, A. She should definitely remain professional and just tell them she is ending treatment with them, if it gets further than you get some higher powers involved(restraining order..etc). But also B. Dee is the only one who hates her at the end. THe gang goes back to people that they DONT like (the lawyer, uncle jack, the Mcpoyles) for help on certain matters, the rest of the gang complimented her for being a good therapist. I think it was the wrong way to go about it.
I thought that wasn’t the point though-yes she is getting them out of her hair, but it’s not being a “good therapist.”
Don’t get me wrong, in terms of safety or whatever I very much understand her reaction lol.
The silent start thing...actually, the actress almost broke out laughing when Danny DeVito started spitting out the shells., and she was trying to compose herself.
Dee’s part where she devolves into simply repeating “TELL ME I’M GOOD” also gets me in this episode
"I'm going to hell for laughing at that."
Yes, that is the reaction of everyone that watches Always Sunny in Philadelphia in a nutshell.
“Bless him he put the willy pen in his mouth”
Season 13 Mac: 👀
I refuse to be the one to make the like count move from 69. But I like it in spirit.
You left the best part out; when Frank revealed that Dennis and Dee were actually originally triplets. "We were going to call him Donny, he would have been the good one. But Dennis and Deandre DEVOURED him."
That's why at the end of this when Charlie was choking Dennis and Frank was encouraging him "do it Charlie! Kill him.. Kill him; get him for Donny!"
You say revealed but Frank definitely just made it up lol
@@MrMongoose221 it's pretty common. If a twin or triplet dies in the womb, the other fetuses absorb their tissue, or "eat" them. Donny was a miscarriage, so Dennis and Dee absorbed him
I always liked that my therapist didn’t do the silent start. We always started with her asking, “What’s one good thing that happened this week?” I was seeing her for anxiety primarily and knowing that question was coming helped me notice good things happening.
This is lovely.
Mine starts by asking me how I’m doing then she asks “and how were you doing during the week?”
Whenever my older brother begins bragging about all his lovely material possession our mum says.
How nice for you.
Whooosh
He never gets it.
My wife loves it.
He's rich but an eeject.
I love how he says, 'dennis, probably a psychopath' haha. 110% psychopath
There's the one where Dennis threatens to skin Dee.
Did he say it or....imply it?
Thats "Psycho Pete Returns" and that one is a treasure trove of psychology issues. I love Frank's flashbacks at the "nitwit" school of the frog kid!
@@thomasb7347 He said he’d make her into a set of skin luggage, he could even add it to his collection.
"You didn't consider the smell, you bitch!"
you don't need an expert to tell that dennis was a fucking psycho in that scene
"But her mouth was still very much in play" - that was the line that killed me
Ugh, you’ve unzipped me.
"because she had no lips" had me cackling. I completely forgot about that line
Lol....but her mouth was still very much in play.
"I've got beef with you."
"Excuse me?"
"I. AM. MAD. AT. YOU."
"You watch always sunny because you find it funny, I watch it because it's a fantastic study and representation of undiagnosed and untreated mental illness. We are not the same"
'I'm going to hell for laughing at that' is the IASIP fandom Motto 😂-
I think "The Gang Broke Dee" would be an excellent one to react to. The actions and REactions by each of them is very telling of who they really are.
You can’t go wrong with this show. Great dialogue, satire, acting, everything. Consistently as well, it’s not just a few episodes. Thank you for your analysis. Cheers
I say "Well first of all through God all things are possible, so jot that down" several times a week
I tell people I don't have donkey brains on a regular basis. Hopefully that's not the behavior of a donkey brained man.
"Mac and Dennis Move to the Suburbs" would definetaly be a funny and interesting one to unpack
I love psychologically analyzing the Gang. This ep was a long time coming.
If anyone likes this, LegalEagle covers the Sunny legal cases “Reynolds v Reynolds” and “The Ponderosa McPoyle Wedding” from a legal perspective.
He also did "hero or hate crime"
I love how all my fave YTers work in tandem like this. Such a great show with such great analyses!
When Frank breaks you see all the stages of grief but comical, what a masterful performance from my man Danny devito.
I love that Frank line so much "I had my first kiss there, it was terrible. She was always smiling that's because she had no lips but her mouth was very much still in play" lmao
Dennis has always been by far my favorite character because of the complexity of his personality even if he is ultimately a horrible person he is portrayed so well that he is so fascinating.
He is a really good example for what a real narcissist looks like
This right here! Dennis is a walking DSM but he’s a great character to watch!
The delivery of the "because she had no lips" line is just perfect. Always cracks me up every time I watch it haha
This might not work, but maybe the episode Hero or Hate Crime or the episode the gang gives frank an intervention.
@Rob Blowman Yes!!
Oh yeah, the intervention episode would be great from a Doctor's perspective! haha
The Gang Gives Frank An Intervention is one of my favorite episodes ever!
Hero or Hate crime is a perfect one actually
@@morgannield5996 and yes, intervention ep is also arguably my fav 😂
God you’re enabling my It’s Always Sunny addiction I hope you’re happy. At least here I can learn while I watch the gang get into typically immoral shenanigans.
One of my favorite Dennis scenes is when Dennis threatens to turn Dee into skin luggage to add to his collection
He has a collection of skin luggage?
That’s so funny how you caught Dennis within his first line to the psychiatrist, if you watch all of the show you can totally tell that he is batshit crazy, totally narcissistic and definitely a psychopath and in theory a serial killer. If you see the episode where it shows his “Tools” that he has in his trunk. BRAVO 👏
“It’s fetish shit! I like to bind, I like beeee bound!”
@Unavailable love it
@Unavailable Uhm. And, y'know, the fact that he's a rapist and reguraly engage in sexual assault
“He’s put the willy pen in his mouth!”
-actual psychiatrist, 2021
Does he know Dennis actually canonly got a BPD diagnosis? That'd be interesting for him to tackle
Even Glenn has said that wasn’t a rock solid plot point. BPD is one of the more misdiagnosed mental illnesses out there, and it’s quite possible that it’s not at all what Dennis has
I love your reactions! I like how you don't spend the entire episode trying to debunk things. You seem to appreciate the humour. The way you provide insight and share your opinion is not overwhelming, which makes these videos educational, but still very entertaining. PLEASE DO MORE SUNNY :)
God damn.
“Mom, can we get Tom Ellis?”
“No, we have Tom Ellis at home.”
*Tom Ellis at home is actually just as good*
When I use to self harm, it helped me to feel physical pain instead of emotional pain. I always thought that was a main reason for people who had depression and anxiety. Everyone is different though.
I completely forgot about the no lips line and I lost it 😂😂
WITH A PLASTIC BAG FOR A HELMIT!!!
I absolutely always cave at "She was always smiling... that's because she had no lips." Frank in that therapy session is the reason it's my favourite episode of sunny.
Honestly you could react to just about any Always Sunny episode and have plenty to talk about. Dennis is a gold mine.
I always felt as though Dennis was based off Ted bundy
The silent start sounds really flawed though. The anxiety I bet most people are going to start with is probably "I'm paying for this, so we need to not waste time" lol
If I paid for it I wouldn’t talk first because taking first is a sign of weakness
The headbanging, from my own experience, is exactly as you describe. I've banged my head off walls to try relieve overwhelming thoughts.
This episode is the single most instructive and useful work of art I've ever experienced. It is a summation of a series worth of terrible but common human behavior, wrapped up in a bow, and beaten over your head - DON'T BE THIS.
When I was a kid my parents made me see a psychiatrist once. I just remember him asking me strange hypotehtical questions and in the end he got very angry with me. Never knew what to think of them since then.
That’s so incredibly weird
He was disappointed you were sane and wouldn't require decades of therapy
Freaking A, the way Dennis enters the room floors me dude 🤣🤣🤣 1:46
Another couple good episodes to a reaction would be Mac and Dennis Move to the Suburbs and Hero or Hate Crime.
Mac and Dennis Move to the Suburb is maybe the best episode of the series. Dennis' decent into madness will be quite interesting for him.
@@rring44 always sunny meets the shinning.
@@senister14 Haha I love the Shining and I didn't make that connection. Thanks for the newsflash asshole.
@@rring44 yeah, took me a while too. You're welcome, is the asshole real or are you trying to be funny?
Yea hero or hate crime is a good one
i hate silent starts, too. it's super common in forensics, or other practices where the goal is to have an unhealthy power dynamic.
How could you not show your reaction to Charlie releasing the pigeon?!? I laughed out loud so hard the first time I saw that.
Bless him, hes put the willy pen in his mouth.
hey I was wondering what is the best way of contacting you?
Insta (@dr.elliott.carthy) or twitter (@elcarthy) would be best if you have either of those 😊
This episode was one of the funniest, but this show is top tier 💀💀
Please do more episodes of it’s always sunny. They’re psychotic and I love it
Plenty more to come 😊
Thank the algorithm for uncovering this hidden gem of a channel :D love the vids hope to see it grow!
Thanks so much. Me too!
Same here. I watch Doctor Mike regularly, pretty sure that's why this channel got recommended to me.
The way he looks at Charlie at 6:20... That's me everytime Charlie appears on the screen... I feel u doc... I feel u
Don’t worry, Doc. You’re not the only one who has had to pause Always Sunny because you’re laughing so hard (usually at something you probably shouldn’t). Happens to me all the time.
do “The Gang Gives Frank an Intervention”
Another episode to react to would be the “psycho Pete returns” which is episode three in season ten!! It’s a great sequel to this one!! Subscribed!!
That’s a good episode. Just to let you know he has made a video on that episode and it was really good. I recommend checking it out.
@Rickety Cricket He made the video a year ago. You probably can look up doctor reacts to psycho Pete returns. I tried and it was the first video to pop up. Also, I like your username.
This and "The Gangs Time Is Up" have to be my two favourite Always Sunny episodes
Definitely one of Franks best episodes
my favorite part of this episode is when Charlie goes “its time to stop hiding the pigeon” and throws a dead bird on the table
Amazing! It's always wonderful to see other people unpack their thoughts on this show
This is so great! I love the show, and I keep being impressed by how well written it is. Thanks for the analysis of the analysis!
"I'm going to hell for laughing at that"
See you there my friend
They just bring the therapist down to their level. 😂 the way she snaps and tells Dee to do them was perfect
First video I’ve seen of his and he got right into the video in the first 10 seconds, huge props
"This group has zero ability to regulate and manage their emotions"
Yeah, that's- basically the show in a nutshell
Mac and Dennis move to the suburbs is a great one to analyse if you find Dennis interesting
How is it possible the “executioners switch” monologue isn’t here. It’s like the best 15 seconds of the show😂
7:53 _laughs in expert at revealing mid-level issues and hiding the stuff I’m really anxious about_
A lot of fun to hear your thoughts, I especially enjoy your input, and advice from a therapist standpoint, along with mention various types of therapy.
Thanks :)
I mean, who doesn't love Dennis & his implications 🤣🤣
I'm guessing the women who are thinking something could go wrong... nothing will go wrong of course but they don't know that.
Wow this was really insightful into deeper things going on in this show, really liked watching this
This show is an absolutely masterful goldmine.
Cant believe you skipped the executioners switch line, one of the best lines in all 15 series
I have watched this entire show no less than 8xs. And I learned something today, while laughing. Ty
Please please please do the It's Always Sunny episode where Mac officially comes out. I thought it was so beautifully done and I CANNOT get over the amazing dance at the end of the episode.
Just discovered your channel and have been binging non stop. I love your personality and breakdowns, please more iasip and other sitcoms. It’s a great way to become familiar with psych terms and ideas through something we’re familiar with, brilliant!
The positive feedback means a huge amount. It's what keeps me going while the channel is still so small so thanks so much
Please do an episode breaking down Uncle Jack and his obsession with his hands
You need to do a video just about Each character and their psychological problems. Especially Mac and Dennis
Flowers for Charlie would be a good one
"This group have zero ability to regulate and manage their own emotions"
This was probably the original pitch
So many iasip episodes you could analyze. Being Frank Reynolds and saving Bill Pondersa would be two good ones.
I always believed that the doctor chose Dee to do the dishes because she knew it would have the highest number of people happy. She would rather have Dee be mad at her than two of them being mad at her
Stress physical effects can be absolutely insane. I used to faint at completely random times several times a day like I had narcolepsy, luckily a cardiologist identified the problem in a snap.
I love cleaning and organising my house, really helps me relax and reduce anxiety.
Me too. The state of my house is as good an indicator as to where I am mentally, as anything.
Lucky
What
Come clean my house lmao
damn. out of all the youtubers who work in a specific field and react to tv shows and movies. id say your the best one. the way you explain everything so well is perfect. i dont really know why but i feel like you do a really good job at putting into words what you think of when you would be watching the show normaly, which is an agle id never see otherwise.
On the first note, physical pains and itches can also come out of emotions deflecting into another type of discomfort. I experience sensory delusions like that often, and while I'm definitely more aware of intense pains or the feelings of bone surfaces scratching where I can't get them, I definitely have periods where I can itch up my face or my scalp without noticing because I'm going through some kind of stress.
And yes, the surfaces of your bones itching feels just as horrifying as it sounds.
I absolutely love that Dennis's constant narcissism dials up to an 11 in this episode. Self defense against he himself being analyzed. (that hes above it and takes a co-therapist role)
Oh so that's interesting about the motivation behind head banging! Thanks for that insight.
Honestly the moment Charlie punch Dennis in the face is such a satisfying moment with all the horrible things Dennis has done to him before in the past and charlie never standing up for himself, I just love seeing him knock Dennis.
7:27 I like how you paused the video to tell everyone that Charlie's "cat thing" is very weird. lol.
I like that Charlie congratulated Mac for rejecting the pill
I'm actually an undergrad psychology student, and I love it's always sunny! So this is a dream come true
So pleased you liked it. Hope you like the others that are coming too and good luck with your studies
After battling with my mental health for quite some years I actually went to therapy for the first time today. It was some heavy shit, and 9 hours later I am watching this. Some spot on commentary. Big respect for all therapists out there.
The problem with DBT is when you need DBT often psychiatrists will just throw your case out cause you are seen as "difficult"
I have conversion disorder and i love that you talk about it in some of your videos
would love a reaction to the episode “The D.E.N.N.I.S. system” and “Mac and Dennis move to the suburbs”
Frank's monologue is absolutely amazing
This is amazing!! Please do more videos about this show :D
Growing up I never trusted anyone enough to tell them anything when I was feeling bad.
Or I thought those feelings just weren’t valid or they would not understand.
My friends got mad at me for not talking. Teachers kept asking.
Eventually my friends accepted a pattern of me crying and hiding for a bit. Then us going back to normal like nothing happened.
I opened up to a therapist about those feelings. They rolled their eyes at me. Yelled at me over those feelings / anxieties.
That experience taught me to be careful about any future therapists I meet.
