    Spondylolisthesis is a condition that occurs when one vertebral body slips with respect to the adjacent vertebral body causing radicular or mechanical symptoms or pain. It is graded based on the degree of slippage of one vertebral body on the adjacent vertebral body.
    Spondylolisthesis most commonly occurs in the lower lumbar spine but can also occur in the cervical spine and rarely, except for trauma, in the thoracic spine. There are five different types, traumatic, pathological, congenital, isthmus and degenerative.

    Wow great stuff, similar to what I do in Pilates, i was just diagnosed with spondylolisthesis and two neurosurgeons said spinal fusion, i really don't want to do that. I believe that i can strengthen myself in order to live with this. I have to stop heavy construction and probably ice hockey, but so be it , i will find something else to do. I'm 65 going on 45 😜. I thought 😮😅. Thanks for the video, really made me re- think my options, first therapy, maybe injections, lastly surgery.👍🏻💪🏻

      Thanks for the nice comment! Sounds you have a very smart and logical treatment strategy moving forward. With these there are a few things to best to stop, but most can be prepared for likely anything else. Age is just a number and there is so much we can do to help yourself. Keep up the great work!

    I have been told to avoid back extension, this is in response to the supermans. I have been told I have either L5 L6 spondy or L5 S1 from a different practitioner. I have tried hip extension bridges weighted and back extn from a flexed position but I am afraid to do back extn and I have been avoiding twisting to as I have been told I have an l5 facet fracture. These are new dx for me and I work as an OT so I have patients with back fractures on a regular basis on my caseload.

      We would recommend get a flexion/extension x-ray done of your lumbar spine (low back). That can determine is the spongy is stable or not. Also depends on the Grade. If it is a grade 1 it will likely not limit and activities.

    is spondylostises or retrolostises known for pain when forward bending or backbending? i have more issue w backbending, pain at L5 (below but not above) , and my spinous process at L5 is definitley more pronounced.

    • @PerformanceSportSpine

      @@PerformanceSportSpine i see. i only have pain at l5/s1, but the spinous process at L5 is much more pronounced than those above or below it. like it juts backward. would that give any indication that it is spondy instead of retrolostises? or the converse? i appreciate the response and any insight you could give.

    • @PerformanceSportSpine
      @PerformanceSportSpine  4 месяца назад

      The only way to assess the spine is with imaging, specifically a flexion/extension x -ray to see how much movement there is a t the level with the pars fracture. As for the spinous process being larger, it is common that some of bones are just naturally larger than other. Please let me know if you have any questions @@cryeredd7563

      It is extremely likely that you will be able to play and do every thing life with a grade 1. We do recommend getting a flexion/extension x-ray of your low back to make sure that it is stable.

    I have grade two. I love playing pickleball. If I strengthen my core as these wonderful exercises indicate, may I return to that sport?

    • @PerformanceSportSpine
      @PerformanceSportSpine  4 месяца назад

      Most people with a grade 2 can return to their activities, with the right rehab and appropriate dosage when returning to sport (you will likely have to use a pickle ball as part of your rehab and gradually increase your playing time/intensity). Also with a grade 2 we recommend getting a flexion/extension x-ray to see if or how much movement there is.

    What if sitting down helps relieve pain but makes it worse when you get up?

    • @PerformanceSportSpine
      @PerformanceSportSpine  Год назад +2

      Sitting probably helps the spine d/t the position, but the lack of movement causes the spine to tighten up, then when you go to move the spine is stiff/painful and takes a while to improved. Things like graded exposure to crunches are a great rehab idea for this.
