You forgot to mention that the old Grumman Goose seaplanes are gone now as well. They were a fixture on that island until the early 80s. My favorite memory.
Why would anything like that stop you from going? My family had a home there for 40 years and while I never knew how Edison got power to the island you could never tell there were any diesel generators going anywhere.
