Even though I’m snug and warm in my campervan, my heart always sinks when I hear the rain on the roof. Probably because I spent so many years in a tent.
As a 10 year old camping with my parents out on the California coastline one night. There was a huge thunder and lightning storm. We were right behind the place called Bodega Head. An amazing light show. I understand how that feels very well thank you for sharing. Many more like it in the 45 years I used that 1950s 21 ft trailer.
Proper sized roof vent covers work very well. As long as you park nose to the wind, the rain won’t come in. And you can leave it open to enjoy freshly rain washed air.
I moved to an area that rarely rains. In 25 years, I haven't seen a storm like this once. Usually we might get a real rain every other year and small showers and sprinkles in between. I miss rainstorms so much! I sometimes play the sound to fall asleep.
When I lived camping I never ever caught flu or got ill. The open air took it all out my lungs. Weather like this is so nice when we are warm and cozy in a caravan.
Considering she’s in the RV when the storm hits I’d say she’s done exactly what is best. Be there to close them when and if the rain starts. Most of the time the rain isn’t anything but a drizzle here in the desert. Live in an RV for two years and you can have some credibility. In the meantime, shut up. You don’t know shit.

Waking up in the morning to the sound of rain and thunder, sliding the curtains and just staring out the window while you’re still in bed for about 30 minutes at a time, the most relaxing sound and feeling. Although for some reason, sometimes it gives me a feeling of sadness or nostalgia.

The sound of rain and some really good thunnder is the absolute best way to go to sleep and the most enjoyable way to wake up in the morning. Its God saying "I love you".
Reminds me of camping dirt biking in the rain and if I was inside I would make coffee, roll a joint & then smoke it bye then rain stops & then back on the bikes for some mud riding. So much fun.
Beautiful and fun! I'd like to do van life on the weekends, but I'd also like a real home to go to where the public and law can't trespass on your property or kick you out from. Peace and be safe
I live and work on boats so I'm on water most of the time for. quite awhile. Everything leaks, no matter how new it is or how old it is or how much you seal it or how much you watch the weather. Lived in a VW Bay panel van fora few years in the mid 90's, it was kinda soundproofed on the sides but nothing on the roof, heavy rain was so loud i could hardly hear myself think 😊and in winter my roof was ice, melting and dripping on me in the morning as i huddled around my gas rings waiting for my coffee 😂
