I have to say, I watch a number of different Forbidden West RUclipsrs and you’ve become one of my favorite. You’ve already taught me things the others haven’t. Like I didn’t understand how powerful kneeling was or how the warrior bow was so good. I knew about triple notch but didn’t know that weapon techniques did anything other than the obvious.

Lol the "100 subscribers" part is the same for me too. Watching this video and hearing it made me double check the current number of subscribers and wow it's more than 23K now. I don't even know for sure why did I subscribe to this channel (which I don't usually do), the contents and suggestions are good ofc, video quality and pleasant background music helped, but I guess the main reason was because I like how nice he sounded lol. Anw, he truly earned it.

Hey thanks AJ! Glad you like this one! I’d actually have to demote Braced Shot now after the 1.17 update nerfed it hard. It’s still pretty good, especially on difficulties lower than VH, but I mostly used Focused Shot now.

This channel really helped me get the most out of the games combat mechanics, valor surges and weapon techniques. The braced shot with the sharp shot bow is amazing especially if you upgrade your quiver to hold 10 arrows. You can take Down the biggest machines very quickly.
Glad to hear you’ve found my content helpful! If you like Braced Shot, give Focused Shot a try. Unfortunately, Braced Shot got beefed pretty hard after I made these skill videos, so now I use Focused Shot. Depending on your difficulty level, Braced Shot can still be really good though. Sounds like it’s working out for you 👍

I got as far as the machine cauldron KAPPA in my last playthrough without ever using weapon techniques. Experiencing story and exploration is my jam, and I felt I knew well enough how to fight from playing HZD as much as I'd done. But as Aloy told the Tideripper, "now we can do this on my terms" I realized I wasn't really doing it with her. 😉
I'd decided that the side content really didn't make sense, given the survival of humanity on Earth was at stake. But failing that Tideripper fight made me see that with so much on the line, Aloy cannot afford not to fight with her best skills. And how else does she get there, but through practice, practice, practice...
Ah yeah I felt the same way on my first playthrough. They story does a good job making you feel the urgency of completing the main quest line. Almost too good of a job lol. But exploring and doing side content is really important I think if you want to get the most out of the game. Not essential for completing the main story of course, but the experience and gear you can get from side content makes it much easier. I hope you’re enjoying your playthrough!

You convinced me about the power of valor surge+braced shot on the tremortusk video. I fried a fireclaw that way. The crack of thunder when the braced shot fires is so satisfying.
Agreed! I love that sound effect. Very satisfying! And yeah I’ve been using that combo a lot as an opener. Super strong. I actually won’t be surprised if they nerf some VS and weapon techniques like braced shot at some point. There’s a couple of ways to basically just one-shot every machine if you have the right skills and gear. Seems a little too easy…
try critical boost with focused shot...can be super powerful and if you are trying for specific parts, it isn't as destructive as braced shot 🤣
@@hankscorpion thanks. I might someday. But I'm more likely to farm processed metal block and trade with salvagers for parts. Bad enough they make us "feed" our weapons rather than just slotting the right coil.

Same with Horizon: Call Of The Mountain if it comes out, but it will be interesting to figure out how to cover a VR game on RUclips...outside of Horizon Content, in 2022 I'm looking forward to Forespoken (I think this could be a sleeper), Hogwarts Legacy, God of War: Ragnarok, Starfield, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, and Zelda BOTW 2. I doubt they'll all come out in 2022, but those the ones I'm looking forward to in the near future! What about you? I'd be interested to hear what you're looking forward to.
I’m just finishing up Horizon Zero Dawn then I’m going to jump right into Forbidden West, I love this game and I love your video’s. For a future video maybe you can point out things that you would do differently in you upgrade tree now, I know critical vallor surge is no longer your favourite and I think I remember you saying they nerfed braced shot however I don’t know other changes happened or what you would do differently now.

You’re right, my recommendations would be different now for sure. Basically, I would focus much more on the Hunter branch as opposed to warrior. And Ranged Master is my favorite valor surge.

I've really enjoy your three skills video. I've played through HZD but HFW is a whole new animal and I really don't where to start. I really like how you tried to keep everything spoiler free. I appreciate that. I made the mistake of watching a walk thru (albeit a weak one from Jingles) of HZD. While I really enjoyed HZD I think I would have like to a lot better if I had been left to my own devices when it came to spoilers. Thanks and I was one of your first 100.

Other players, myself included, complain about that. Hopefully the devs fix that.
👆Yup unfortunately there’s no way to cancel a VS right now. Hopefully they add that in a patch. I think it should just be R1 L1 to stop it just like you start it. I’ve done exactly the same thing. Really annoying to waste your valor by mistake. And thank you!

@@ArktixOfficial I think braced shot is too op man. It makes fights a lot easier, especially if you also have the skills that increase the weapon stamina buildup.
Do you think Guerrilla will nerf it eventually?

I will have to say though that I think both Burst Fire and Spread Shot should be recommended. Spread Shot is absolutely essential for an OP Warrior Bow build as it fires 5 shots fast vs 3. While Burst Fire is indeed useful against smaller machines, Spread Shot is better for bigger machines & is capable of dealing massive damage to them if you freeze them first, which is pretty much the only way to get a truly OP giant machine killing setup out of Warrior Bows. Combining it w Freeze & the Crit Boost Valor Surge can turn your Warrior Bow into a giant killer.
Yeah I agree spread shot is definitely great for bigger machines. You need to be comfortable getting relatively close though, which I would say means you need to be a fairly advanced player. I think most players would get themselves killed if they tried to use a warrior bow up close on a frozen Slaughterspine lol.
@@ArktixOfficial Lol well it depends on how quick you kill it ;) With the right bow, coils, skill loadout & Valor surge you can slaughter pretty much anything with it in seconds.
But yeah, til you have access to such an OP build then it might be best to use this tactic with lesser large machines and even some of the tougher mid sized ones. This is also one of those rare cases where I in fact would choose Crit Boost over the other Valor Surges.

Honestly these are all amazing tips. Maybe it’s just me, but I breezed through the game up into the first…. Large machine with guns by its eyes, for lack of spoilers. Right there was where the game really showed me that I needed to use my techniques and valor surges. I learned real quick that I should not have neglected weapon techniques up until now, as I couldn’t do much with my 1 skill point.
Early game weapons really don’t do much damage, as you’ll be doing naught but chip damage against armor. The biggest things are really just braced shot and freeze. Once you get good at using those, you’ll be doing ACTUAL consistent damage

Thanks Plusle! Yeah I agree, “guns by its eyes machine” is definitely a turning point. The side quest with Aloy’s “old friend” was also tough. The game doesn’t do a great job teaching you to rely on valor surges and weapon techniques. I remember feeling the same way with elemental buildup in Zero Dawn. Like I knew it was a mechanic and that it was probably important, but personally, at the very beginning, I didn’t realize it took multiple arrows to build up the burn effect, for example. I wish there had been a main quest that forced you to use a weapon technique and valor surges to make sure people know how important they are.
@@ArktixOfficial Oh that side quest! Funny story the machine glitched out and never went aggro on my so I just peppered it from afar until it decided to die XD
Also the game really don’t teach you too much about the finer details and how useful they can be. They aren’t holding your hand, it’s more of a.. pushing the bicycle good luck

That’s interesting it glitched out for you. That’s definitely didn’t happen for me lol. The rockets are the killer for me. I wonder if they’ve fixed the glitch you had with recent updates. I’m planning to go back there for my Let’s Play series, so maybe we’ll see.
@@ArktixOfficial I think maybe it had to do with the fact that I had fully upgraded my infiltrator tree and shot precision arrows from real far away, but I have a feeling it’s more than that. The time it glitched was also the time when Aloy’s friend … died but not really? She was on the ground laying there but also talking
Lol that’s hilarious. Maybe she just took enough damage that she would have been dead, but the game won’t let her die. I kinda want to try to make that happen just for kicks lol.
I ALWAYS go ahead & Triple Notch some of my Advanced Hunter arrows as I'm about to approach a battle, so it's already ready to go & you can start the fight with a nice strong attack. It essentially becomes free if you do it early before you enter a battle since your Stamina will likely have recharged by the time you enter battle & your Triple Notched arrows will already be ready to go, even if you switch weapons! Only if you switch ammo types on the same weapon will the Triple Notched arrows go back to the normal 1 arrow.
Yes! I totally do this as well. In HZD I use to do it with hardpoint and precision arrows, but those days are gone lol. Braced Shot is a nice replacement for triple precision arrows though :D
@@ArktixOfficial Well you CAN still do it w this game's version of Hardpoints aka the Advanced Hunter Arrows, so there's that.
Yeah I agree tho it's a shame that you only have access to Double Notch for the Sharpshot Bows now, and the accuracy of it is ALL over the place.
I dunno why but the 2nd arrow always seems to fly way the eff off target whenever I use it, making it very hard to aim properly. I honestly shouldn't have invested in it.
Yeah I’ve noticed that too. Plus I find it awkward to switch weapon techniques mid-fight, so I just leave my SS bow on Braced Shot :)
What do you suggest as far as progression, just main missions then side quest or all together?
The burst fire skill using the carja behemoth short bow, does it knockdown the machines? It has 10% knockdown power but its rare that it knocks down machines. Im wondering if the chance increases with burst fire?

Thanks! And good question. I believe the knockdown perk applies to each arrow, so in theory yes, using the burst fire or spread shot weapon technique would increase the chance of knockdown since you'd have 3 or 5 arrows hitting the enemy. I'd have to test it to be sure though, and I can't say I've tested that. However, there are knockdown coils you can use to increase the knockdown chance on weapons. That being said, if you really like knocking down enemies then the knock down weapon technique in the hunter skill branch is the best thing for that.
@@ArktixOfficial Ive tried it with spread shot and Im not happy with the result. Knockdowns pretty rare and unpredictable.
I settle with knockdown hunter skill. Its quite a huge investment with 5 skill points and being all the way down the hunter branch but its a little more reliable. Doesnt work on all the small and medium machines though.
On another note, do you know how to make a melee build? I love playing melee but had to restart my game because machines keep interrupting my attacks and its not effective on medium to large machines. I would like to see if theres such build for melee style.
I play hunter infiltator now and can 1-2hit kill medium sized machine but its less fun for me personally.
Yeah I think the knockdown skill is pretty sweet, and definitely your best option for knocking down machines. That’s interesting it’s not knocking down small and medium machines for you consistently though. It seems pretty consistent for me.
Melee is kinda a tough build. I’ll do a full video on a melee build at some point, but I think the basis of a melee build is resonator blasts, so you really want skills that let you build up more and stronger resonator blasts. Not sure if you watched my best Valor Surges video, but the Melee Might Valor Surge is really good for that. Of course, you’ll want some good melee armor too like the Oseram Artificer.
I am at level 42 and pretty close to beating the game and I have not used valor or weapon technique one time. I have bought all the weapon techniques and valor but just never used them, not sure why not lol.
The second hunters trial above plainsong may be the most infuriating thing I’ve ever attempted in a game. They really wrecked people with the skill system, made things harder then they should have to be.
I would like to see a video of how to pass the hunthing graunds on ultra hard cuz Im stuck at the last one😂

Well yeah, Triple Notch isn't going to show up for the Sharpshot bow because ALL weapon techniques in the game are only for a specific weapon type. There are three for each weapon type in the game if I'm not mistaken.

Braced Shot is without question THE most OP skill in the entire game. I'm honestly surprised it hasn't been nerfed yet by the developers in one of these updates that keep coming out They've been nerfing & making changes to other things here & there so I'm rather surprised. I think they know ppl would be PISSED if they nerfed it lol.
Yeah I'm a bit nervous they'll nerf it lol. I wouldn't mind a small nerf, but if they do it I really hope it's very minor.

Question about the Crit Boost Valor Surge. Does the normal Crit Boost percentage also stack with Weapon Skills or do weapon skills only get the 15% boost? Cus if so that's pretty lame... Cus it means skills like Sustained Burst have a far lower Crit chance per shot than they could. Now if they stack together & the weapon skill 15% bonus is added on to the normal bonus... that would make moves like Spread Shot and Sustained Burst absolutely O FREAKING P!
I seriously hope that's the case, as otherwise I could see Crit Shot not being nearly as useful without them stacking. Either way, I only really see Crit Boost being better than other Valor Surges with weapons such as Warrior Bows, Boltblasters & Shredder Gauntlets due to how fast and how many times they hit. Any rapid fire weapon would be amazing with this Valor Surge. Other slower weapons would probably be better served with things like Ranged Master & Power Shots.
Hmmm. Good question. I transitioned to mainly using Ranged Master fairly early. I'll have to test this out to see. Thanks for posting that question!
@@ArktixOfficial Id say tho that Crit Boost is still VERY viable when using Warrior Bows & Boltblasters. So it still has some use. Stack a bunch of crit chance & crit damage boost coils on those weapons for maximum effect of course, and freeze the enemy first so your shots penetrate the machine's armor.

Ah. Depends how fast you like to play through. If you plan to do a lot of side content before finishing the make story, yes. If you're mostly going to focus on the main story, then maybe upgrade 1-3 levels and then move on to purple gear.
