I'm really enjoying the boating videos. Don't think we'll ever have one but still enjoying you taking us along. Have a Jesus filled day everyone Greg in Michigan
Its always nice to be able to sit on the side and look at all the scenic views. I do all the driving of the truck when pulling the fifth wheel. Maybe someday she'll learn how to pull it. Nice boat and beautiful views. Must be nice. Thanks for sharing.
I’ve owned 2 sailboats and 3 RV’s. Jury is out as to which is more maintenance and repair. But hands down the boat will take you places more beautiful than an RV can. Hint - throw a trolling line out when you motoring along at an easy pace. You are in a great place for fishing!
Very Nice boat, Ray. It would be interesting to see a water's eye view of the boat, at some point in your travel, from the tender. It would make for interesting filming. Stay Safe and always have fair winds and following seas!
You guys got quite the life now all them beautiful sights you can see from the water on the water in the water. Beautiful just beautiful. I have a question I may have missed it but do you do any fishing off of that boat? Asking for a friend, you may know her LOL😅
We have no tackle and the previous owner didn't fish at all but I'm sure I'll be changing that going forward as I love seafood. We also have a large crab trap from the previous boat. :) Love Dungeness crab, gonna get a prawn trap too.
Hi Ray, love the two recent aquatic posts. In the first episode you mention that your boat is an “HMC” (or something like that) class. Can you identify what that might be? We are RV type people, not boaters…but, I have to say, that looks like a pretty nice way to get around.
It's a CHB which stands for the boatyard that built it in Taiwan back in the 70s called Chung Hwa Boat Building Co. "History of the CHB Trawler Mysteries of the orient - The CHB-34’s background may be confusing but its popularity is unmistakable. Taiwan shipyards built wood fishing and work boats for many year, until, more or less by accident, a few began building pleasure boats in the mid-1960s with a new material-fiberglass reinforced plastic. The CHB-34’s were built by Chung Hwa Boat Building Co. Ltd out of Taiwan and was founded by an American and it is distinctly possible that the CHB-34’s were designed by an American. Yes, she does piloting and navigating and I do lines, anchor, cooking and taking care of the boat mechanical, plumbing and electrical. Oh and she can maintain the teak, not my cup of tea to sand and paint. :)
It's a track that is available in the music service I subscribe to. The name of the track is listed as "Sunfish Grove - Brittle Bones" ruclips.net/video/PHt3EGJAgDU/видео.html
This is such an awesome chapter of your lives. Anne just beams up there in the wheelhouse. Will you be renaming the boat to something that is meaningful to you? How is Vestri on fuel? What would it's equivalent to mpg be? Also, will you be getting another fur baby anytime soon? I hope so. Dogs add so much love to our lives. I know how much you loved your beagle, may she RIP. Maybe after you put the boat up for the winter and head back out on the road in your RV?
We'll likely stick to the name supposedly its bad luck to rename boats. As for fuel it is good for the size burning about 1.5 - 2 gallons an hour going 7 knots. About 4-5 miles per gallon. It have two 125 gallon tanks so good range. We are putting off getting a dog again as we want to do some extended international travel in a few years and a dog is a 15 year commitment. Cheers, Ray
Ann looks very happy. Question: Do you happen to know what hull maintenance is required considering you are in salt water? I'm guessing annual dry docking is best but I'm sure not everyone does that.
Usually people pull them out of the water and wash the hull and inspect the prop, thru holes and as need add special bottom paint. Our boat will be on dry land storage for the winter season so will be easy to do and it won't sit in the water not used.
Hello Ray…are you using your STARLINK internet set up on your boat? Is it a legal requirement when purchasing a pre owned boat to have it surveyed or to be Canadian coast guard certified? Did you get your boat surveyed? Enjoy the journey. PS did you bring any enternabond tape for leaks😅
Yes been using Starlink with no issues for a couple weeks now. I don't use in motion. Just set up once we stop and are moored or anchored. You usually need a recent survey to acquire insurance for the boat. Especially an old boat. This boat had a recent survey done by a reputable outfit that we could see and use for the insurance. We also hired a marine mechanic to give us a mechanical inspection of the engine, transmission, etc.
I like the life jacket you have on. I am not familiar with this style. Showing how it works in a video would be of interest. All the life jackets we have are bulky. I am kind of short, and they ride up and are uncomfortable.
Its a Helly Hansen auto inflating PFD www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/helly-hansen-automatic-inflatable-pfd-0793043p.0793043.html They auto inflate when you hit the water. Anne has the Mustang brand mustangsurvival.ca/collections/inflatable-pfds/products/hit-inflatable-pfd-auto-hydrostatic-md3153-02 They are good because they are so comfortable you always wear them which is the most important thing, especially where we are boating the water is so cold it can cause muscle contractions so you can't use your arms.
Yes, single 120HP Ford Lehman diesel and Paragon Transmission. The previous owner added a Sidehift brand bow thruster from a Canadian company sideshift.com/ Seems to work pretty well.
That adds alot of control when docking as you are aware. I would sweat with a single prop and low speed = no steerage when docking. Great video's Ahoy! Not cheers when floating🙂

Much more fun than RV projects.

I could get used to watching boating over rv’n!!
Please keep them coming Anna and Ray!
God Bless. And
CHEERS!!👍🇺🇸
My wife is like yours, not afraid to take the controls. This is a huge plus to have that with your partner.
Ahoy Vestri this is the river vessel "Mad Mallard" wishing you fair winds and following seas!
Beautiful area.
Nice.

Great editing! Beautiful man! Cheers!

The comfortable smile on Ann’s face shows how much she enjoys boating! Thanks for taking us along for the journey. Looking forward to future videos.
I think you ought to rename your beautiful boat to "Captain Ann" the smile on her face is priceless!
What a pretty area. Seemed to be a nice little trip, with the water so calm.
Yes, glad it was calm, good for our first trips getting used to the boat.
Beautiful photos! Much nicer than the winter RV camping.
We've been at Dodd Narrows on the shore many times (via Cable Bay trail) .... looking forward to getting your view from the boat! Safe travels.

Just kicking back while Anne does all the driving! Nice. You're still in charge of maintenence right?
Yes, she does piloting and navigating and I do lines, anchor, cooking and taking care of the boat mechanical, plumbing and electrical. Oh and she can maintain the teak, not my cup of tea to sand and paint. :)
Hi Ray the guitar music is excellent. Is that a particular group or stock freeware?

What's the fuel useage at 6-7 knots? I'm enjoying the videos as we are big time cruisers on the big ships.
Usually 1.5 - 2 gallons per hour depending on wind and current

This all looks very familiar. My mom's side has deep roots in Union Bay. The Glover family was involved in lumber and mining
