- First off let me tell you, he was a nightmare to film! 😅 All his black and gold and light skin color did not work well with my cam or my background. This made editing so much harder... I should have filmed him before a white background.
Anyway, my HUSBANDO finally arrived, sadly I'm not to overwhelmed with how he turned out BUT I'm still glad that he is finally here. And I realised I can start to do a Otakemaru shrine with all the Figures and Shikishi Boards and Merch stuff that I got from him, which makes me excited and happy!
Let's take a look together at how Otakemaru from the Onmyoji Honkaku Gensou RPG game, a 1/8 Anime Figure by NetEase Games turned out!

For reference, Otakemaru is a character from a chinese game called Onmyoji. There you play as the legendary onmyoji SEIMEI and encounter all kinds of demons, shikigamis and spirits. Otakemaru is one of the Three Great Spirits, "The Top of Mt. Suzuka" and "The Lord of the Sealand" and was introduced first as an enemy character that needed to be defeated because he attacked and devasted the mainland.

omg just saw your video... when I was trying to stick him on the base (hardest thing I've ever done) I accidentally... popped his leg off. but it didn't seem BROKEN... but still didn't seem right lol. it popped back into place snug enough to not just slip off, but that at least made it a lot easier to get him on the base LOL.
😂Oh gosh, what a story! Horror and relief in on go! Glad to hear that he at least is now safely on his base, I had to struggle a lot too🥲😩 As much as I love Onmyoji Figures, I have yet to find one where the assembly is easy🥲
So I will always use a hairdryer again if I have to assemble one ever again.

If you wanna try yourself at shading you can use pastel chalk and apply it with a brush (use a knife to get some chalk dust). If you don't like the result you can wipe it off with a wet wipe. Used this on one of my figures and it turned out really well
Oh wow, thank you for the tip. How well does it stay on the figure? Do I need to prehandle the figure before I apply the chalk, or do I have to do anything after I put it on?

@@pakuccino i simply applied it to the figure without doing anything before and after. You can't touch it though after you applied the paint 😅 For me it was more about trying something temporarily before I possibly damage my figure with smt permanent

@@pakuccino I second that. I use mungyo pastels which are pretty cheap but well pigmented. You can practice on a prize figure first and I just use a soft paintbrush to apply the pastel. You can wipe it off with some water but darker colors stick better so it may not come off.

But this review was wonderfully informative! Very worthy of your #1 husbando! thank you so much for the brutal honesty… It’s always frustrating when a scale figure is so close to being perfect… But it’s just missing those small details to really get it there, you know?
I also find the sculpt to be stunning, it’s just the lack of shading… As you mentioned 😭 I’m still debating if I want to pick him up in the future, yes he’s tiny and missing some shade work… But he still has such a presence!
Ooooh maybe applying your own shade work would be a fun project? I’ve seen people online repaint their prize figures with just diluted acrylic paints?

Ugggh My heart aches thinking about Neteases manufacturing problems 😭 I don’t know if Onmyoji is still a popular game… But I would think the character designs are beautiful enough for other figure companies to want to pick them up? Like Come on Myethos, Apex or GSC Shanghai, pick up the mantle! considering how long Otakemaru was delayed… I’m still holding out hope that Taishakuten Will be produced… I’m really hoping Netease Will give us an update soon if the manufacturing issue has been resolved… It’s so sad thinking how many projects have been dropped 😢

Yeah, me too!😍 So gorgeous, I got some more great Onmyoji Shikishi just recently. I like this format more than wallscroll or poster to be honest.
Glad that you like it! I'm always frustrated when people are just positive about figures and just deny any faults or even conceal problems because they get paid for it or whatever. On hand, congrats on being totally not nitpicky, but I just can't trust you review of it.
And yeah, it's kinda sad when you're excited for a figure and the manufacturer is just not as passionate about it anymore because to little people preordered it.🥲
I suck at coloring or shading to be honest. 😅 So if I would try this I would want it to be 100% perfect. And then I would be scared to try it and well... never do it 🙈 But maybe for him I can try, though no idea what to use for it 😩

I'm also still holding on the hope that a 1/4 taishakuten would come true. 😣 Hope dies at last, so until then I can dream of him.😿🙈

AH Are we going to get a haul with beautiful Onmyoji shikishi boards?! I agree, I prefer them over wall scrolls or posters… Smaller, really great print job and durable! Plus whenever there is a holographic/metallic feature… My heart ❤️

And 1000% agree! When other channels only have positive reviews with no negative… I am likely to never trust their opinions, especially if they are getting free figures directly from companies 😤
Just because you have some critiques on a figure does not necessarily make it bad, and I think it’s important to inform people truthfully so they know what they’re getting into/buying into! so it’s always a breath of fresh air to hear you’re honest reviews 🥰🙏
Well , if you ever did decide to attempt shading… Watching people repaint dolls/figures on RUclips is fun and inspiring! Kind of my guilty pleasure to watch lol and they all somehow make it look so easy?!
And hell yes close ups! Glad we both agree that they are important! It always drives me crazy when I’m trying to research a figure and all we get is a far away 360° view… And most of the time they’re blurry 😭

This was going to be a late birthday present to myself, but come to find out… He has insanely bad QC issues! When he was first released he was great so I went ahead and ordered him… But two months later, he’s severely drooping and tilting to one side! Kind of makes me side-eye GSC a little bit 👀

There will be a future onmyoji haul, as soon as Onikiri comes in. However, I guess it will still take some time sadly.
AH, no! It was generally speaking. Like very little preorder a figure and because of that they push it back and back and back again. Or in the end the QC is not there because so little people were interested. Although I have to say, the same can be said sometimes about figures which to many people preorder, especially GSC suffers from that.

I just heard about it today! The QC was apparently really bad for his effect pieces! Another low blow form GSC, see that's why I have trust issues with them. They aren't the golden child that they used to be...😥
