  • Ten years have passed since a solar flare destroyed the ozone layer, turning the planet Earth into a largely-uninhabitable wasteland ravaged by extreme weather events while being scorched by the sun's ultraviolet rays, increasing temperatures to 150 degrees Fahrenheit (70 degrees Celsius).

    The ozone layer part actually could be explained with science. A solar flare could cause holes in the ozone layer but leave parts of it intact still. Areas that receive more sun exposure would have more damage to the ozone layer (causing it to disappear in spots) and those that are more equidistant would have less damage. The ozone layer can also heal. Solar flares don't continue on forever either. Most likely once the sun settled down parts of the ozone layer healed up in areas with less damage.

    • @johncampbell9448
      @johncampbell9448 Год назад +43

      Yeah, that or the fact that humanity is damaging the ozone layer. The decreased amounts of humans would then cause it go return. However, it seems as though the ozone layer in the movie was weakened, then hit by a solar flare or such. It then slowly repaired itself.

       If temperature on Earth rise to 65C permafrost would melt, releasing hella lot of methane, which in turn would affect global warming more than humanity did through whole it history, and this will most likely release even more methane from the seawater. When percentage of methane in atmosfere reach 16 it become flamable. So it is a one way ticket.

      From what I just looked up, the ozone layer helps to increase the temperature on earth. If it was depleted, it should cool down, not heat up. Everything said that the ozone layer helps to trap heat by absorbing solar UV radiation and infrared radiation from the earth. Both of these help increase temperatures.
      And yes, the ozone layer can repair itself. I remember when the hole in the ozone layer was the next doomsday problem. Don't ever hear about that anymore, despite it still existing.

    *I am a Harvard Educated Geologist. We knew that the earth has been getting hotter for the past 18,000 years! Also Ocean water levels have risen 380 feet in the last 18,000 years as glaciers started melting. We know for a fact glaciers melt when the earth gets warm and Grow back when the earth gets Colder Again! This cycle of heating and cooling has happened 738 times in the last 1,486,000 years. I don't have any Denial that its going to get 14 degrees hotter in the next 60,000 years since I have known about it since 1960 when I graduated school! The Geological Record is filled with millions of pages of hard data proving that THE ICE-AGE CYCLE is REAL! Mammoths and Saber-tooth Tigers died out 10,000 years ago due to natural global warming! Mother-Nature has a way more powerful influence over the ICEAGE than the Activity People Do! One Volcano can cool or warm the earth with the same power as 4,000,000,000 Cars driving for 1500 years in only 30 days time! I say “Get-A-Life”! Enjoy this TROPICAL AGE which is coming no matter how high you raise taxes in an attempt to stop it! Don't forget your 'Sun Tanning Lotion' folks, It’s going to be a hot one for the next 60,000 years and the Sun is only going to get hotter and hotter as the Earth ages so enjoy your Iceages whenever they crop up! This movie was brilliant. It shows the love a person can have for their animal. Tom Hanks brought such emotion to this movie. Every little detail was designed to make you feel, even the blood on the suit.
    I just wanna add three things. Jeff didn't immediately choose his name. He had several ideas and it was several scenes in before Finch allowed him to choose Jeff. Dewie was more than just a little robot. Finch loved him. In his anger he explicitly told Jeff that Dewie died because he had led him directly into an obvious trap. Also, the flashback to wear Finch saw the girl and her mother killed, Goodyear was discovered in the little girl's bag, not just some random bag.

      why did the writers even bother introducing an ominous mystery figure that watched and followed them just for it to end and be completely pointless?

    I kind of hope Jeff knows enough to make more robots. Or at least "learn" how to make more. It'd be cool to see a sequel about a decade later in this story, where there's another group of youths, maybe a family, that comes across Jeff and the robot community.

      I like the idea, but its ok to let stories lie where they fall. Sometimes a continuation ruins the meaning of the first.
