    I ordered a 2023 maverick XLT hybrid on sept 19 2022, when the order banks were open. I ordered the rear hitch, rear sliding window, engine block heater and co-pilot 360. Got it in July 2023. As of now I have 800 miles on. I love the truck and especially the gas mileage. After I got the maverick, I decided to sell my F150 4x4 with 47,000 miles on, and like new. I am retired now and didn't need such a big truck anymore. The maverick is so much easier to park, set things in the bed, zip around in, etc. and I don't have to get a step ladder to check the oil level , like I did in the F150.

      My thoughts exactly. As I get older, I really don't need my F-150 FX4 anymore. It's difficult to find a parking spot it'll fit in, and it just guzzles gas. 🤠

    Coming from a full sized truck owner, I had one of these as a rental for work, and really enjoyed it. It was the 2.0t and was actually pretty quick. Also used the awd a lot driving up fairly steep hills for the work I do. Perfect size also. It was refreshing driving a “truck” that doesn’t feel like piloting a boat. Wish more people were buying these than the stupid full sized and heavy duty’s they definitely don’t need, clogging our roads up…

Mainly used as a downtown commuter, with weekend DIY jobs, mountain trips, and occasional long road trips, it's averaged just over 42mpg lifetime. Not bad for $25k! Also have yet to get stranded in Colorado winters thanks for some proper snow tires. I would trade in for a new compact pickup with AWD and/or PHEV drivetrain, however. Whether, that's another Ford, or a Toyota, or one of the other brands, is TBD.

    I've said it before and I'll say it again. An eCVT in a hybrid is a completely different beast than a traditional CVT. Most eCVT's have no belt, no clutch, no hydraulics or solenoids to make noise or fail. Yet reviewers always seem surprised when an eCVT does not have "that droning noise"... Other than that I absolutely love your reviews!

    • @jacquesw3086
      @jacquesw3086 11 месяцев назад +2

      It is worth saying, though, that I think marketing teams can be fired solely on the grounds of calling an eCVT an eCVT. Names like "virtual CVT", "electric transaxle" or "beltless CVT" give a better idea to consumers that the same technology found in a CVT is not used in an eCVT - only function is similar.

    • @DrivenCarReviews
      @DrivenCarReviews  11 месяцев назад +6

      I was not surprised at all, because I also understand the difference between the technologies. What I was trying to say, is that a lot of people expect a CVT type of dynamic. Maverick doesn’t really have that.

    • @readtherealanthonyfaucibyr6444
      @readtherealanthonyfaucibyr6444 11 месяцев назад +4

      I thought "that droning noise" referred to the fact that the engine stays revved during acceleration for a long constant period with an eCVT rather than the traditional highs and lows of traditional shifting transmissions. I don't like how some reviewers complain about it because the point is that the engine stays in the optimum power band. It's how the engine and trans work best.

      @@readtherealanthonyfaucibyr6444, yeah, I don't get it too. I drove a Camry hybrid and I think it's a marvelous car, unless you expect your car to make a certain kind of noise for some reason...

      My XLT turned two in March. Hybrid and it has been back to the dealer many times for a parasitic draw/low battery situation. I only have 10,000 miles on my Maverick because the dealer has giving me loaners for up to six months now. The Parasitic draw seems to have started a year ago when I bought a separate car to drive around and left the Maverick in the garage to preserve it. So not driving the hybrid every day is an issue or only using eco mode.

    "They can always take an Uber" Love it! So true. I deal with this all the time with my Camry Hybrid that I bought for my retirement so I can afford to go places without breaking the bank. Friends complain often about my car being too low making it more difficult to get up out of. You know, 30 years ago before the SUV and Pickup craze, ALL cars were sedans and station wagons that were ALL low to the ground just like my Camry. We managed somehow and were healthier and more agile for it. Sorry this is off topic for the vehicle tested. It just struck a chord with me and gave me a new saying for all the "whiners" getting in and out of my car, "Well, you can always take an Uber!" Lol! 😄

    Tom, for those wanting to bash the Maverick as it's a unibody pickup are forgetting, or completely ignorant of the fact that Ford once had a unibody F-series in the 1960s.
    My 2.0L AWD has managed 34 mpg highway and I'm receiving 23 mpg with my daily commuting with winter conditions.
    I'd say the biggest changes I'd consider making would be the ride could be made a touch less truck-like, sound system could have better door speakers(though they're not the worst), and why doesn't the luxury package on the XLT include push button start. Sure, I could pick at a few other things, but none of these things would be a deal breaker on a vehicle of this price. For what it is at the price I paid it's a great little vehicle. It's economical, quick, fun to drive, versatile, and maneuverable.

    Just checked this out at the Anaheim auto show. Super cool and the back seat is roomy enough I can sit behind myself.
    42mpg city is awesome for 80% of my driving. The XLT Hybrid with black out appearance package and trailer hitch is $34k that’s an honest deal.
    I saw that QR code but I didn’t scan it, but great they include DYI plans for cargo in the bed!
    I’d like to be able to haul to dirt bikes, 250 cc in the back and I think that would work with the bed down and all those tie downs all over the bed! Really well thought out. I also like the buttons instead of a big iPad that you have to spend minutes flipping through to find how to turn on the AC.
    Thanks again, Tom for a nice refreshing honest review.

    We genuinely wanted to pick one of these up this fall. The dealer addendums and the overall experience left us fairly disappointed. Both the dealers we went to denigrated the Maverick and tried to put us into full size trucks. The other issue was the nearly five thousand dollar addendum. We bought a Honda Ridgeline instead. Hate to say it but the Dealer network is killing Ford. I refuse to pay a "market adjustment" just for the privilege of driving their vehicles. Makes me wish Honda made a full size diesel so when I am ready to replace our F350 we would have another option.

    I ordered a Maverick hybrid in July 2022. With options the MSRP came to $27,005. It finally arrived at the dealership in January 2024 with a MSRP $5400 higher than when I ordered. The hybrid which was the standard engine when I ordered had become a $1500 option plus there had been price increases by Ford. Even with the "private offer" by Ford of $3000 it was still $2400 more than when I ordered. So I told them to keep it. As consumers until we stop playing the manufacturers / dealerships games they have the power. It's time that as consumers we start taking back the power .

I think it’s exactly what the truck market needed and if Ford would have concentrated on building more of these than the battery powered crap like Lighting and Mustang E it’s hard to tell how much they’d made, the people that know the least about anything are working for the government!!!

    Great review, Tom, as always. I waited a year and 20 days to get my 2022 XLT Hybrid, and after a year and a half could not be happier. My last truck was a 1998 Tacoma, and I couldn't go more than two hours without getting a backache. The Mav (as you rightly observed in your initial vid) is a great long-hauler -- smooth, quiet and comfortable. Mine has the brake-grab issue at very low speed that seems to plague some Mavs, but I haven't noticed it for a while. Also could use an audio upgrade -- its system is mediocre. Thinking of getting a PHEV version when available? I'd suggest staying with the regular hybrid to keep the weight down and help keep the gas engine (and 12V battery) in shape, especially if you're a mostly city driver like me. I would consider trading for an AWD hybrid Mav, but other than that expect to continue happily motoring in my '22 Mav for years.

    I haven’t sat in the back of the new Tacoma but I heard the Maverick has more rear and front leg room plus this little truck delivers more payload than most Tacomas as well. The industry needs to take note, there is a huge demand for a well packaged, versatile, efficient, and value conscious small truck, or any size truck fur that matter. Living on a rural farm this little hybrid is super attractive vehicles most of the errands and trips to town that don’t necessitate the full size truck.

  • @kevtheobald

    I get the idea you save money on fuel with hybrid, but truck owners are usually keeping their trucks for a decade or longer. Some of the hybrid power package type of vehicles have costly issues when it comes to repairs. I think it makes sense to save money upfront, deal with higher fuel costs, to avoid hybrid service/repair issues. I especially fear Ford products, which as a brand has lead the recall charts three years in a row. Maybe Maverick is better when it comes to other Ford products.
