Yep. I consider myself a very experienced waterman from San Diego and when I was visiting for the umpteenth time. I was looking forward to jumping in at China walls again and one of the uncles said not today bro don’t do it. I was humble enough to acknowledge him and save it for another day

I remember going to China Walls, once. Got swept off by a rogue wave while putting on swim fins. Needless to say, I swam away from the rocks, chilled out for a while, watched the rhythm of the set of waves and timed my approach. I don’t know if it’s still there, but I used an old polystyrene rope to climb up the walls and timed my ascent with the waves coming in to help push me up. And when I felt the top, man did I fight like a wild pig to get back to dry rock. Mother Nature does NOT care. I’m so glad I ate my musubi and strawberry slurpee from 7eleven. It gave me the power I needed to rescue myself.
Oh, and not even 15 minutes after I got up, an old, leather-skinned Japanese diver came up with his spear gun, belt, and what looked like 4-5 different octopus 🐙 and he had me try to hold one that was still alive. Them tentacles be grippers. 😅 Weird encounter, but after that fight for my life, I was willing to accept anything as normal.

Several years ago two young female visitors decided to jump in at China Walls because others were and it looked fun. They got stuck in the ocean as the surge on the sets was15 feet vertical. Two young surfers helped them out by staying with them and timing the surge. Once they got on the rocks the young ladies actually had to be told to "step up, walk up" to get to the top and out of the wave surge. Thats how little they knew about being around the ocean in Hawaii.

I live in that neighborhood and walk down to China Walls often. On a hot day, it's tempting to jump in, but you have to know how to get out! And you have to pick a calm day/time. I think China Walls and Spitting Cave in that neighborhood, and other places on the islands should have a QR code with a link to fatalities and maybe some images/videos of injuries, so tourists take it seriously. Even locals get hurt there.
Respect to Kahikina and the Lion's Club.
And I know it's easy to diss Florida, but Kelly Slater says hi.

People should look at the natural terrain and natures actions before they adventure into the water and mountain sides, common sense is your first tool of safety!!! Also ask someone who lives there such as the life guards and skilled swimmers it might save your life, ALOHA!!!😎🤓🥸🤠🤙
