IMO you've got it down. I think I've commented before that you do the Mal shake better than anyone I've ever seen. I play him in a tribute band and can't do it like you. Of course, I'm 6'3" so being a foot taller than the real Mal doesn't help!
So about that OG Circus Krone vid...I remember there was some asshat who accused you of faking it on the tone, and you actually posted a response video breaking down all the behind-the-scenes work you did on creating that tone and proving you were legit. I became a fan of yours that day.
Haha, yeah I definitely did that. Even went as far as making a video that showcased how I was making backing tracks mixing the songs at one point too. Got one too many "fake" comments and I figured that would be the best way to deter / confront them. Just link to a video that proves it's real. Nowadays though I just take all of those comments as wins. I know the effort and work I put into these videos. So if someone is gonna call it "Fake" then I've done my job perfectly.
Oh for sure 96-2003 was peak Mal tone no matter what. As much as I love Donington and The Razor's Edge tour --- that 2001-2003 period is like the best AC/DC live tone for pretty much everything.
@@KyleTheGuitarGuy great work, great impersonation. Love it. Keep it up. Just found & subbed to your channel last night. What was Mal using during the 96 thru 01 era? I have been searching to find out what they used for TRE sound for some time now and finally found out after reading denials from everyone for years saying the mesa cabs on stage were fakes etc and they only used Marshall's. BTW is there any mesa pedals that can offer or het close to the donington live tone?
I put in an SDF76 in my lefty Gretsch and Im definitely still having the same problem you said you had in the description. Perhaps its my choice of amp, with the only big tube amp I own being a Marshall Origin 50.
Nice tone dude, I used a program called transpose which will change the tuning on any RUclips video and I have to say, this song sounds really good tuned down half a step
Hi. Nice job. I've also been trying to build a Malcolm rig. I too have struggled to absolutely nail the tone. It's more elusive than people think. I have a '71 Super Bass and several vintage Celestion cabs. Clearly, nailing his tone requires an exact bunch of tweaks from guitar, strings, amp, settings and speakers and a modified amp and WAY LESS BASS than a stock Super Bass. I found a tidbit by SoloDallas where he had found an obscure article from a French magazine where Mal stated he had amp mods to reduce bass (as well as a 4th tube for slaving to a console). I'm getting close with a number of mods in the amp but not nailing it yet. I notice that you don't give exact details on how to recreate the tone on this video- no problem, it takes a ridiculous amount of work sometimes to nail some of these 70's tones, but I would appreciate any tips you're willing to give. I notice you have a Donnington setup in the corner but it doesn't appear you used it for this video, is that correct? You say 'real amp', but if it's not the Mesa setup and not the Wizard I would love to know what amp you're using- anything to get me closer would MUCH appreciated.
Hey man. In this video I was using the Wizard Vintage Classic amp. I don’t remember the exact amp settings but I usually start the ballpark around here (P3 - B2 - M2 - T7 - V7) and then tweak as I go. The biggest thing for me though was never the amp but always the cabinet + impulse responses. This recording I think I went through a virtual cabinet with Vintage 30 speakers. But I’ve also got similar results with G12M-25. Everyone’s gear and setup is always a little bit different. So your stuff my behave differently than mine does. You just gotta keep experimenting and never stop. I can’t tell you how many brick walls I hit before I finally stumbled upon something.
@@KyleTheGuitarGuy *REALLY* appreciate the info. It's been confounding to absolutely nail some of these tones. If you listen from early to late AC/DC recordings you can hear Angus and Mal evolve their tone better and better. Your tenacity has paid off. If you have a spare moment sometime, it would be interesting to hear your comments on that Mesa rig. Looks like you abandoned it too after a while like Mal. But it was interesting you tried it.
Mate... This is fantastic and also a little bit eerie! It's like the spirit of Malcolm Young himself possessed your body! You've got the guitar, the tone, the rhythm, the hair and Mal's mannerisms down to a tee! You lose a mark for the clothes you're wearing but that's me scrapping the bottom of the barrel to nitpick! 😂
You do not fail to impress! Each cover is a masterpiece. Keep up this solid work! As a fellow guitar player myself, I really see you as an idol to follow.
Cheers man. I remember the days when I first started and I was following some other guys on RUclips doing and thinking the exact same way as you. It's nice to be able to know I can be that kind of pillar for someone else. Always appreciate messages like these. Keep rocking!
This song literally screams Razors Edge tour tone vibes!!! Would've been a perfect addition to the 1990-91 album, also, you somehow managed to utilize Chris Slade drum parts so well done 👍
How do you get that sound apart from having Malcolm's guitar? It's amazing. I want to come to something similar, but within a budget. Can you help somehow? I was thinking about buying a Gretsch G5222 Electromatic Double-Jet. What do you think? I also have a Marshall Origin 20C amplifier. In addition, I was thinking about buying the J. Rockett 45 cube. Do I have a chance to achieve something similar to the sound of Malcolm in at least a fraction? I will highlight one more. I'm not a hardware master so I understand some cosmic statements hahah!
The G5222 definitely works. The only thing you may want to upgrade on it at one point is the pickup. Take out both stock pickups and get either the SoloDallas SDF76 or the TV Jones TV Classic Plus. That will work with the Origin no problem to get a good Mal tone. I don't have any experience with the J Rockett 45 so I couldn't really weigh in on that part, but if you find you're struggling to dial in a sound with just the amp controls on the Origin, then maybe give it a shot.
that was awesome brother. awesome performance. like real! You rocked. a reliable rhythm guitarist. Love the tone of your axe. I hope you can give a run down/ description of what head and box & any effects you're running. looks like a serious rig cheers
Damed good man! It's funny how many of my younger cousins that play think Malcolm's playing is mediocre but they can't play or sound like him if they tried. Nice!
The walk up to the mic and back for the background vocals was hilarious! Going for authenticity even in a bedroom setting.
Exactly. Gotta work on a stage performance so I'm ready to play at the drop of a hat.

@@KyleTheGuitarGuy exactly.
yes fake it until you MAKE IT
Only thing missing is Cliff!
Oh my God, it's Malcolm Young's son! Nice video, kid, you made me remember Malcolm's golden days...
Rest in peace Malcolm AC DC forever
mad respect. going to and from the mic was legendary. Mal would be proud.
That tone sounds like the original.. wow!
Are we absolutely sure it’s not a muted clip over the original audio?

Awesome as always :) Best song on the Highway to Hell album in my opinion.

Rock the hell on my man
I've literally been saving your acdc covers to a custom ACDC playlist I created and have been jamming out to them like crazy. Keep them coming!!
Amazing it’s not just about the Cover you feel it. And that’s a Guitar players True talent keep it up!
Malcolm Young was an absolutely artist on his guitrar. And you got it, man
That’s exactly how it should sound, GREAT !
Damn that’s real close man! I really dig mal’s tone from 2001 to 2003. Also very hard to replicate

This is sooooo good!
Amazing Tone and cover Kyle! Keep it rocking brother!
So few chords , so much power!

Great cover, well played, you nailed that!

amazing like always

It's all Speaker and Cab choice more so than amp. You get a Vintage 30 speaker in that amp and cut out some midrange and it should get there for you.
Awesome mate
very authentic!
