David Niven is so likeable. He doesn't talk down to the children. When the film came out, and as a 7 year old, I went 3 times with my mother to see it in the cinema. I have appreciated Niven ever since.
In the 1970s Disney made some wonderful family films, and Candleshoe is up there with the best, it so entertaining, with a great story, and characters . So refreshing to see simple storytelling in keeping it wholesome , and no special effects or CGI . Its a film with real charm and is so endearing everyone , and any age. Pity films of today didn't have the same enjoyment and appeal of films of this era.

@@georgespencer8429 It seems to me that the film is set in a fantasy late 1970s, where stately homes still employ butlers who look like David Niven and people wearing flared trousers still travel by steam train.
This scene just gave me an idea for a scene for a anime series I'm thinking of doing. I can see it now, a girl named Velvet was late to catch the Flying Scotsman that's taking a train to London. I give her ride in an Aston Martin DB5 to the next station and trying to beat the Flying Scotsman there. And the music that plays during the chase is South Preservation Society from the Italian Job.
I wondered what this movie was called. I saw this on TCM (I think, it was probably disney channel but not sure.) with my dad. couldn't remember the title of the movie for years until recently.
The UK has very few still-operating steam lines (most are for tourism, but there's one with "proper" services), the same few stations appear in nearly every show. The rural stations of Heartbeat become urban ones in central London for Ripper Street, and so on.
I wonder if someone has played this song on solo guitar that would sound so amazing. I wish I could but I do not have perfect pitch as per ears but working on it! Let me know if you know someone or a band that has.

Man that old Rolls Royce could sure go pretty fast. Very unusual for cars of that era.
Oh god I haven't seen this scene or film in 30 years I just started crying 5 second in.
You'll be ok
Jodie Foster is a genius
In my Childhood I seen this movie on Pakistan Television broadcast. and this was the scene I can never forget .

This locomotive is out of action awaiting her next overhaul.
Ikr, bugger
RIP David Niven
Love the fact that at the end the Man is basically being touched by the Prairies Couplings great Accuracy with the Brake Driver.
I have to say I really am impressed with the accuracy; most films would use anachronistic rolling stock.
The rolling stock here is anachronistic for 1977.
@@Cool2BCeltic It's set several decades before, though.

My favorite train chase scene and stopping the train is one thing.
Marvelous brakes...but they can only stop the wheels.
I remember seeing this in the cinema in September 1978 in the UK..
filmed around Chelmarsh and Astbury near Bridgnorth

Based on the filming dates, I think this movie takes place circa 1973-1974.

That locomotive is awesome!😃 It nearly hit the car, but stop just in time, if it go faster, the car maybe doom.
the steam loco was only going along at 25mph and they was on straight part of the track. also the car driver? showed the right hand signal
