Thanks so much for filming this. I can imagine it took a considerable amount of time and effort. The result is very highly appreciated. Brilliant first attempt!
Thanks very much for an excellent intro. I appreciate your methodical and clear explanations. One additional element that I would have liked is a short comment on how it all fits together. This is the sort of game where the mechanics of a move are one thing, but the tactics and strategy are quite another. It's clear from the complexity of the game that there are many, many strategies to win. It would be very useful to hear your thoughts on a couple of them - what might you try to maximise as you play each turn, and how might you do that?
Thank you very much for your comments! I appreciate your feedback. I did immediately notice the problems with focus and cropping after I uploaded the video to RUclips. I'm slowly upgrading my equipment and editing software and I'm going through some hiccups along the way. I hope they weren't too much of a distraction. As for the thoughts on putting it all together, I actually hadn't played the game yet when I made this video. As I say in the intro, these are mostly for my friends so we can "Get ready for Game Night" before we actually play. So I couldn't really offer any strategy advice. Now that I've played a few times, I can say that it REALLY helps to plan ahead with the cards and try to set up combos for when you pick up a discard pile. Also, don't spread yourself too thin. You won't be able to invest heavily in all 4 companies. I'd pick one or two (based on your starting resources and the board state) and focus on those. And try to get your resources to work together. If you buy Diamond merchants, then maybe focus on a track/company that gives bonuses for diamonds or extra diamonds. Stuff like that. I think I do a better job with all the points you raise in the videos I shot AFTER this one. Let me know what you think or if you have any other questions!
Thanks for another great rule overview! The delivery was excellent, though the image quality detract a bit from the explanations. Specifically, the image lacked focus and had some blurred effect throughout the entire video (lighting change slightly improved the situation). This made it difficult/impossible to read the cards or see the symbols on the gameboard/tracks while you were explaining them. Not the end of the world, but in those cases perhaps moving the card closer to the camera (or camera closer to board) may crispen the image enough to be able to read the card. (quality was set to 720 and viewed fullscreen on a 23" display). As always, i really appreciate your videos and I look forward to more :)
Bill Tarbell Thanks for the comment and the feedback Bill. This is definitely one I'm not very proud of in terms of video quality. I definitely don't know much about video or video editing. I'll try to do better with future videos. I'm looking into a better camera as well. Thanks for watching!
Actually, the close-up focus was ok when you showed the player boards but was grossly out-of-focus when you showed the upper portions of the board (books and orange and white house areas).
I have to say, this is NOT a very good "how to." Lacks precision, and clarity. I feel like I would be doing a disservice to others by not commenting. Sorry. Suggestions: close-up shots, use effects for movement of pieces, and work on clarity.
Hey Matt, thanks for the feedback. This is one of my very first videos and I certainly hope I've improved since this one. When you say "clarity", are you referring to the video quality? Or that you didn't understand what I was saying? Or something else? I'm always willing to hear constructive criticism and try to improve. Also, what do mean by "use effects for movement of pieces"? My philosophy with these videos is to try to recreate what it's like to learn the game in person, from a friend. That's why I never use a script or put in many special effects. That style may not be for everyone. For another perspective on this game, I'd recommend "JonGetsGames". He did a really nice rules explanation and playthrough .m.ruclips.net/video/WEL0SlVlSCU/видео.html Anyway, Thanks for watching!

Thanks for the kind words. And Thanks for watching!
Thanks very much! It's been a while since I last played Mombasa and this was a much-needed refresher.
So happy I could help. Enjoy the game and thanks for watching!
17:40 definitely after for the lighting!
Thanks! I have made that lighting change permanent. Thanks for watching!

At 23:57 you start explaining how the diamond merchants work, but the details you are pointing out are off the bottom of the screen.
thanks!!! very good video
You are welcome! Enjoy the game and thanks for watching!
Lighting much better after the change.
Focus off after zoom at 18:08
