As a licensed cosmetologist, hairstylist and salon owner (in canada) this is by far the best hairstylist channel on RUclips. I completely agree with you that Stylists as a whole left the natural hair movement to itself and what we see now is a big experimental mess in these youtube streets. I personally transitioned some of my clients and kept it strictly scientific. Every time they come in they are so thankful. I agree with you chemistry doesn't lie and we really need to get back to that. I am big on sectioning hair as well. It makes the most sense. It's the only way to properly control high density hair. Keep doing what you're doing sir! It's refreshing to watch a stylist that I agree with everything they're doing and saying. And I mean EVERYTHING!! looking forward to more posts.
Wow you totally get it. When you said “clients had a long week; they want to relax”, that was so important to me! Every time I get into someone’s chair, they are either barking, cursing, running 1-2 hours behind from double and triple booking, or on the phone! I can’t seem to find a professional stylist in the Houston area to save my life because of the above reasons, or they think they’re hot shit and have an attitude. Over it.
That’s my issue!!! I relocated to Houston and I still haven’t found a stylist. Please, if any of y’all find a reputable one puleeeeeeze let a sister know!!!

@@TravelleLavar you can round brush my hair during the blow drying process. My hair is fine and curly. It will be straight longer if it's done that way when it's silk pressed. I'm not sure if you have clients like me but that method works for my hair type.😉

We used to have knowledgeable stylist like you back in the day, so many of our hair salons have disappeared! I'm glad it's a revamp and hopefully there will be new ones popping up!!
I went natural in 2007 before it was popular and I had several friends that were stylists that literally told me they couldn’t do my hair. They had no interest in helping me so I was on my own. I learned from a few books, hair forums and RUclips. I’m so glad stylists are catching up but we need more like you!

Yes Olaplex is amazing! I do the Standalone Treatment and No 2 at home on my hair. I wish I could find another stylist to do my Silk Presses correctly. People always want to try different things but I’m a Licensed Cosmetologist so I know which products work well with my hair.
I don't know you sir, I just discovered this vid by chance. But. This right here is the best silk press video I've ever seen. Period. Don't @ me. This is the RUclips hair care videos of old that I miss. This is what makes me want to pursue my cosmetology license as understanding the science of hair and skin is so critical and I am so passionate about this and want to learn so much more and help other women. Cuz I am so frustrated with the lack of understanding of the proper science of black hair and the damage stylists do to GUESTS who then do NOT become clients, or worse, feel pressure to be a client and yet do not feel treated and their hair cared for like a guest. I do my own hair due to poor experiences with salons, but stylists really need to be properly trained and undo the biases they have with our hair and like you said, undo the auto pilot in services they tend to provide. The way that I learned to properly care for my hair was through watching RUclips hairstylists who give science based advice. I also found my absolutely favorite shampoo by watching a young lady on RUclips with her grandma who suggested Lemon Fluff Shampoo. After using it twice, everything else I use is moisturizing and hydrating. My hair is growing and so very easy to manage!

I appreciate the fact that you always start on fresh, CLEAN HAIR‼️ So many stylist do work on filthy hair. I've even been to shops that charge extra for the wash smh.
Imho flat iron straightens the hair and smoothes it. Yes the hair dryer can stretch the hair with the brush, I use comb attachment on my relaxed hair I don't use flat or curling iron unless I'm going out some place as it's just double heat on the hair that's what I use relaxer for. but it's not going to get it all that straight on its own. Especially 4c hair.
I subscribed yesterday because you are very thorough! I also learned that diagonal back sections work better when pressing hair and to see you say and do the same made me excited! I love love love that. Diagonal sections also add more movement to the hair. I like to think of it as doing a haircut sometimes. You're amazing. Thanks for sharing your tips and also thank you for sharing the tools you use. I was looking for a better brush. Usually, I'm not too fond of paddle brushes because of the static they add to the hair; I've been using my 9-row Denhman for a better and smoother blow-dry but it takes more time. I'm going to purchase the brush you have today. Thanks again!
You definitely have the best blow-drying technique and it does make a massive difference. Have you thought of doing a reaction vid? I saw a really nice youtuber with long thick hair go to salon and I thought her hair was treated badly blow-dried poorly cut when it was improperly blow-dried and then cut again when it was straightened the stylist took off way too much and probably damaged her hair they did about 5 passes with the flat iron! Would love your opinion on that process.
Her hair is exactly like my daughters! Cant wait to see your curly styles! I’ve only flat ironed her hair one time and it came out AMAZING - BUT - I wore my hair flat ironed a lot before I loc’d my hair and I actually relaxed my hair for about 15 years from age 12-26 so I learned how to properly care for my hair in that state and how to protect it from heat damage (my hair was waist length before I cut it). I never really learned how to care for curly hair and both my daughter and son have beautiful hair!!! I want to learn to care for it properly while it’s curly and right now it just hurts her (my son has 3b/3c hair so he does much better; my daughter is like 3c/4a when properly moisturized and healthy. But she’s so tender headed that I don’t do it as often as I should and I think that’s part of the problem. Her hair is almost waist length now too (my sons is almost completely shoulder length and he just turned a year old 😫😭😭😭🥰) a so bring on the curly styles!!!!! Mamas got some learning to do! Thank you for taking the time so show all of these things!!!
had a sensitive scalp so much that if I didn't wear my hair in a protective style combing it however gently even touching my scalp hurt. I started using argan oil on the scalp and that all went away.
@@colormehopeful6984 it's an anti-inflammatory and is easily absorbed so it soothes the scalp. Almond oil and chamomile are also great for sensitive scalps

Her hair is exactly like my daughters! Cant wait to see your curly styles! I’ve only flat ironed her hair one time and it came out AMAZING - BUT - I wore my hair flat ironed a lot before I loc’d my hair and I actually relaxed my hair for about 15 years from age 12-26 so I learned how to properly care for my hair in that state and how to protect it from heat damage (my hair was waist length before I cut it). I never really learned how to care for curly hair and both my daughter and son have beautiful hair!!! I want to learn to care for it properly while it’s curly and right now it just hurts her (my son has 3b/3c hair so he does much better; my daughter is like 3c/4a when properly moisturized and healthy. But she’s so tender headed that I don’t do it as often as I should and I think that’s part of the problem. Her hair is almost waist length now too (my sons is almost completely shoulder length and he just turned a year old 😫😭😭😭🥰) a so bring on the curly styles!!!!! Mamas got some learning to do! Thank you for taking the time so show all of these things!!!
had a sensitive scalp so much that if I didn't wear my hair in a protective style combing it however gently even touching my scalp hurt. I started using argan oil on the scalp and that all went away.

@@colormehopeful6984 it's an anti-inflammatory and is easily absorbed so it soothes the scalp. Almond oil and chamomile are also great for sensitive scalps

I love your work you are so right. I'm from NYC most ppl go to the dominican hair salon. Most salon focus on quantity not quality. I can't tell you how many horror salon experiences. The beautician are overbooked and overwhelmed.
