    You guys have never had root beer? That’s so crazy because growing up in the US, it’s really common for us to have root beer everywhere. It’s so good! Next time, try a root beer float where you put a big scoop of vanilla ice cream in the bottom of a mug and poor root beer over the top. It’s fantastic!

      I'd had it before but seemed to be a new thing for Mickey - you can get it here but only really in supermarkets or American-themed restaurants.

    I love the "US firsts" moment of trying root beer more of those of future trips because we have so many wacky things here to try out. Seeing the outside of the "Colbert Theater" was also quite fun & if you ever find yourself inside for a taping it's truly beautiful & a reason why I watch the show every weeknight. A bit surprised no Newsies reference dropped while in Brooklyn but alas next visit.

    Cabaret 1998 did play Studio 54. My husband and I saw it there.

      I was about to comment about this! Yes, it actually moved there from the Henry Miller’s Theater (actually advertised as the Kit Kat Klub) due to an accident with the building - I can’t remember if it was the theater’s building, or building next door, but whatever it was closed down the whole street for weeks, so they had to move. The Henry Miller was fairly run down at that point, I got to see the show there and then also at Studio 54. Liked it more I think at the Henry Miller, I think because it was so run down, really added to the whole experience. Urinetown played there in the early 2000’s, theater even worse off - I remember the toilets weren’t working - and then the Roundabout totally redid it, and it’s now the Stephen Sondheim.

    So fun watching you bounce around on this impromptu trip! Re: the 1998 revival of Cabaret, I was pretty sure I had seen it at Studio 54 so I looked it up and it started in a different space but moved to be the inaugural show at Studio 54 when the space reopened as a theater.

    I LOVE these NYC vlogs. I do believe they are my favorite RUclips videos of all time!! I don't get there as often as I would like so taking trips with you two ( and friends) makes me very happy! I notice that you didn't have any mishaps this time on your road trip outside the city like you did last time!!😄I was crying too with just your talking about the end of HTDIO.I wish I could have seen it. The first thing I will do on my next visit to the city is get a giant Reese's Peanut Butter cup!! FYI Root beer was an old cowboy drink made with sassafrass bark. In old movies you will hear a cowboy at the bar asking for a sassparilla! When you said it tasted medicinal, it was actually used to settle stomachs!😊 I can hardly wait for part lll as well as your reviews of these shows. I am mostly curious how they made a musical from The Days of Wine and Roses! Cheers!🥰😍🤩

      I agree -- but, having done it myself, I know it's a major time commitment.
      You need to go to a web site weeks in advance. The day of the show, you need to be in line hours early.
      Hours early, standing the entire time.
      I'm happy I did it, but not likely to do it again.
      Maybe the talent coordinator for Colbert can book them as guests -- much more fun....

    Oh the Melt Shop! This is so random but I've been going there for a few years on my Broadway trips - it's interesting how it's changed over time, when it opened it very much was just doing like very classic American grilled cheeses (which is why I liked it) and then over time have been expanding and expanding their menu to the point where now grilled cheeses are like still there but definitely no longer the main focal point compared to like chicken and burgers, like they don't even do tomato soup anymore. Have found it interesting to watch

    Steam is due to release of Steam Heat - the steam system that heats New York. Although because of the steam heating system, the pipes underground also heats water and so on as it falls through man holes and the like.

    OMG i was looking for that corner billboard you showed nr the Shocard for ages because it had cast pics from Appropriate on and I could not find it anywhere.. I wish you had uploaded this before I flew over for the show./ Gosh you walked the long way round to get to the Hayes. Port Authority is right alongside. Thank you so much for the coverage. (shourout to the person who put their arms up at curtain cal and bocked out my friend onstage) I saw this show from all three orchestra vantage points right side. left side and centre (courtesy of a cheeky upgrade due to cast absences) and you have really made me want to go back and see it again. Hope you enjoyed x PS did you have a themed cocktail at Appropriate? I was addicted to the Franz

    Michael Imperioli is an American TV guy, who made his big splash on "The Sopranos," a groundbreaking TV series a generation ago, for which he won the Emmy. He's also known for Law & Order and The White Lotus, winning another Emmy for the latter. His stage credits are slim to none, but his name recognition, producers always believe, will put some butts in seats.

    • @chuckoneill2023
      @chuckoneill2023 8 месяцев назад +1

      If you're certain one or more shows are a "must", I advise you get them ahead of time, to avoid disappointment. Day of, rush, lottery tickets are available at a big discount -- but not certain, the availability is fluid. For rush/lottery you need to go to the box office. I personally use the TKTS booth in Times Square. The availability changes from day to day, and also during the day. A board at the booth shows what is currently available (also can be seen on their web page) If you're flexible with which shows you want to see, this is easiest. Sometimes you can get tickets for the same evening, and also next day matinee for another show in one transaction.
      Be aware -- scalpers will approach people in the TKTS line, and claim to be TKTS employees. People in the line also get accosted by the "flyer people" Mickey Jo mentioned. They at least are honest about it.

    Curious about your thoughts as I heard rumors Harmony may go to London ???

  • @james39270

    I usually just get the cups from that people leave behind, that usually works unless it’s like the closing week😁…. So sad about all the shows closing, got to see Harmony one last time last week and will try to go back to Ohio this week if I can get tickets.
    A question: how do you guys handle scheduling shows when you have a short trip? I always have problem fitting everything in London when I visit… in nyc, I found a list on playbill that shows when shows will be closing in chronological order so I try to see things closing soon asap, but I can’t seem to find that for London as easily.

    I've noticed before that some non-theatres have signage mimicking theatres. Did you happen to notice the Scientology "theatre"?
    Manhattan is, decidedly, easier to navigate than London. London, after all, doesn't have anything resembling a pattern to the street layout. Also, 221B Baker Street is completely out of order, just to give one example.

    • @BroadwayBound009
      @BroadwayBound009 8 месяцев назад +2

      Fun fact: parts of Manhattan are layed out just like London is. When they settled there in lower Manhattan/financial district they built the city with crazy roads going all over too. The grid system didn’t come into play until 1811. The majority of lower Manhattan neighborhoods are not part of the grid even today and you can weave in and out and get lost pretty easily. Broadway theatres also started out downtown originally before being moved to midtown.

    • @chuckoneill2023
      @chuckoneill2023 8 месяцев назад

      @@BroadwayBound009 Having been to both London and NYC, I stand by my statement that London is much harder to navigate.
      Yes, the streets in lower Manhattan don't line up with the grid -- but there is a method -- they align with the waterfront, a very common thing in sea port cities. Very few (if any) London intersections are right angles, and then they add in all the "Circuses".
      London's one up, though, with the Underground. That system is fairly easy to use; in central London you're always in walking distance from one or more stations, and the map is legendary for clarity. Other transit systems have copied that map format for a long time now (notably Chicago).

    So... no actual comments about DAYS OF WINE AND ROSES, only suggestions about pre-show "mocktails" and row D being a step up from rows A, B and C? Curious... maybe there's a proper review planned for later. I personally was massively disappointed. Kelli a d Brian were fantastic (as always) and everyone performed well. But the score? One of the worst shows I have ever seen, hands down. I never want to hear "10 more seconds" of this show again. Relentless and ridiculous recitative to start, followed by 100 intermissionless minutes of agonizing "jazz." They probably knew that if there was an intermission, half of the audience wouldn't return. Smart. And tortuous. Such a waste of talent, and time, and money. The composer/lyricist and libtettist might have worked out some of their demons with this project, but it didn't do anything positive for the audience. What was the point? "Alcoholism ruins lives" - gee, really? "12 step programs provide necessary support " - wow, great! AAAARRRGGGVHHHHH! This was 105 ill-spent minutes of my life that I can never get back. An utter fiasco, in my opinion. I feel terrible for the cast.
    I'm sorry that you probably won't get to see Jason Robert Brown's THE CONNECTOR at MCC Theatre. Now THERE is an interesting, new, melodious, intelligent, thought-provoking show about an interesting and timely idea - journalistic truth vs. alternative facts - that has a wonderful score; a fantastic cast; brilliant performances; great direction, design & choreography; and a "coup de theatre" ending that should not be missed. I hope it has a future life on Broadway... for your next trip.
    Meanwhile... Mocktails, anyone? 😂 43:26

    • @MickeyJoTheatre
      @MickeyJoTheatre  8 месяцев назад +1

      I did see The Connector, don't you worry!
      And there will absolutely be a review of Days of Wine and Roses, which will be its own video, I never normally share review style thoughts in these vlogs.
