I flew Emirates business class a couple of years ago and wont be again any time soon. I always found their economy class very good so I thought business would be great but not so. From Birmingham UK to Melbourne the first leg had a seat configuration of three seats across the middle. Paying business class and getting a middle seat is very poor and this seat should be consigned to the tip. The other three legs on my return flight were ok but nothing special. The in flight bar at the rear of the BC cabin was a novelty with the casual seating around it. Where Emirates fell down was their in flight service. There are just too many seats in business class for the crew to passenger ratio. We were often left waiting for service even though the crew were working hard they just had too many passengers to wait on. I believe they have nearly twice as many BC seats as their rival Etihad who I did the same trip with beforehand. Etihad were a class above imho. I am flying UK return on Qantas in a couple of months so we will see how they go, but Emirates is not now an airline I will fly business class with.

Did you experience the middle 3 seats on an A380? I've been on the Emirates 777 aircraft which has this configuration in BC (and try and avoid it too). It will be interesting to compare with Qantas - I have found very different (and better) service levels on the Qantas Dreamliner as there is obviously a better staff ratio to BC seats...

@@adamcampbell-food-travel my daughter had the unfortunate luck to score a middle seat (all that was left at booking). Needing to get up mid flight on a long haul when the passengers either side of you are stretched out asleep requires acrobatic talents. They should never have installed middle seats on a business class configuration. What were they thinking.

Nice review Adam, quick question, do you know if all the A380s with the new premium economy (4 class a380) have also upgraded the fabrics and finishes of business class in the same plane?

Airlines need to ensure there is no wasting of food by passengers, by giving them only what they are going to eat, &that is possible by allowing them to pick up their choice, rather than giving the same set of food for everyone...

Emirates is a bit weird, first off is their love for salmon even on first class, makes no sense. JAL is an example of an airline who understands to serve great fish dishes, with all the awesome fish dishes in the world its a mystery how one can think "we need a great fish dinner option, lets serve salmon". Not talking about any specific Emirates flight but in general. For example on flights from Britain they could offer Atlantic Cod, which is almost too awesome.
My other weird experience with Emirates is their digestive aid options, how can they suggest disgusting digestive diseases and offer a "remedy" in their menu? Its like writing about intestinal gas and diarrheas and what not. And their red wine selections are always baffling, most have some extreme dominant characteristic (comparable to the problems with Singapore Airlines wine selections), that is ok for a wine tasting session or for those who love to praise the emperors new cloak but unsuitable for dinner, ask for the economy class red wine instead. Credits to Thai royal silk business class for offering an easy to drink pleasant alternative to the "expert recommended" choice, and also superior beer (Chang beats anything served on Emirates, and Singha is an option for those who like fruity beers, mostly girls). Still, British Airways has better stuff across the board, choice of business class is mostly a matter of where you are going.
