Husqvarna 22-inch Lawn Mower Tune Up (Oil Change, Filter, Spark Plug)

  • Before I start working in the yard in the spring time, I make sure to tune up my lawn mower. In this video I do an oil change, inspect the filter, and replace the spark plug. I had already previously sharpened the blades last fall at the end of the mowing season.
    Tuning up the mower is an inexpensive and easy process that should be done annually.

    If you run the mower for a few minutes it will help with draining the oil. You don't have to move the handles the way you did to drain the oil. Most engines take 20oz of 10w-30 oil. For the manual scan the QR code on the top/front of the mower for the manual and specifics on the mower. Good job from a Small Engine Repair Tech.

    Lightweight is good and what did I use it for it’s a lawnmower ruclips.net/user/postUgkxTPN04aT-Qdjr_KS3ql7ng8wnU3wwsCqk also recommend Yes it is lightweight so hence not as robust as our old one. But if you take care it does the job really well.

    The owner's manual for a Husqvarna HU 700 H says that the oil capacity is 18.56 oz. I changed my oil today and it took only 12 oz of new oil to reach the fill level on the dip stick. The old oil did not look like 18.56 oz so I refilled slowly and checked the dip stick several times as I refilled. This is a Honda engine and if I had put in 18.56 oz it would have been way overfilled.

    This video is getting me look forward to the spring here in N.H. I don't understand why lawn mowers don't have convenient oil drain plugs. I have a Honda and it does have a drain plug but it is almost like draining it right from the fill port like yours so the the drain plug doesn't really help much.

    • @JimmyLewisMows
      @JimmyLewisMows  5 лет назад +1

      Ya draining the oil is probably the most annoying as far as maintenance goes. I'm looking at upgrading to a Toro Timemaster, and it's the same story. Gotta tip it over.

    • @RVALawnLove
      @RVALawnLove 5 лет назад

      Jimmy Lewis they make pumps that remove the oil from small engines. They’re pretty dang affordable too! I’m looking into picking one up this season so I don’t have to tip my timemaster over.

    • @JimmyLewisMows
      @JimmyLewisMows  5 лет назад

      They do it so you don't maintain it and buy another lawn mower.

    Unsure why, but the Husq manual instructions state the engine should be tilted backwards, with the sparkplug pointing upright, to drain the oil.

    Thanks, is that a cement floor in your shop or natural stone Jerry? My concern is when I pour oil past the "add" mark. Is this OK or should I drain I off the excess?

    • @JimmyLewisMows
      @JimmyLewisMows  5 лет назад +1

      It's a cement floor. If the oil is just past the the max line I probably wouldn't worry about it. If you really overfilled it, then I would just grab a turkey baster and suck out the excess.

  • @aguyandhiscomputer
    @aguyandhiscomputer 5 лет назад +5

    2 questions (I don't know where you live):
    - Why didn't you change the oil in the fall? It's better for the engine to sit for extended periods with clean oil than dirty. Ask any boat owner.
    - Did you let the engine run so the oil flows easier?

    • @JimmyLewisMows
      @JimmyLewisMows  5 лет назад +2

      aguyandhiscomputer I didn't change the oil in the fall because I had other things going on and couldn't get to it. And I didn't run it before hand. Appreciate the advice though. Will remember that for next time. Thanks for watching.

    • @JimmyLewisMows
      @JimmyLewisMows  4 года назад +1

      Refer to your owners manual for both of those. You can pick up a spark plug at the Home Depot. They are usually stocked near the lawn equipment. I also like to use the full synthetic oil.

      @@willi6880 I can’t speak for all models, but the plugs that fit my mower are gapped at the factory, which is convenient. If they aren’t pre-gapped though, you’ll definitely need to check the specs for your mower and set the gap accordingly.
