Woodturning - Coffee Cup
In this woodworking video I use a woodturning lathe to turn a blank made with epoxy resin and a banksia pod into a coffee cup. I feel this video falls into the ASMR and entertainment categories.
If you find these video’s a good source of entertainment, I’d appreciate you like, share and subscribe. If you love my video's, you can buy me a coffee with a 'Superthanks!'

Who makes that tool rest? Looks good
Jack really awesome! What type of seed/ pine cone? Where do you get your thin clear poly\acrylic?
What kind of wood was that? And that's just fkg amazing, functional and beautiful at once, my kind of thing 💜💚
The best part is the eyes, i just found that mind blowing beautiful
@@HurricaneRainbowOG
I must say when I first saw that wood/pod, I was a little creeped out. Once again, your artistic eye turned something that would normally be overlooked (perhaps even avoided!) into a thing of beauty. Well done, Jack.
I too was creeped out by it. But still a little creeped out at the end. I have this ... The fear of hole in things ... trypophobia..hence the creepy feeling ....but I appreciate the cup ...
Alien egg..
Yes you are not alone, there are some things humans are natrually creeped out by, looking like eyes is one of them!
Anyone know what kind of wood is this?
It’s a Banksia pod
This creation is lovely. Thank you commentators for sharing the information about the pod.
I absolutely loved it! My tryptophobia however did not lmaaooo but it's a beautiful mug!
I am also tryptophobic and those little holes gave me cramps. It is amazing that I cannot avoid being fascinated and I admire the final result.
Same
😅 I felt sick the entire time I watched lol
I managed not to have too bad of a reaction because of the artist in me. It was like "get over it, this will be magnificent!" 🤭☺️
not real
I have seen wood turners use banksia pod for years. They usually it end up a hot mess. That coffee cup is awesome and truly unique. Thanks for the videos. 😎
I envy your talent to look at a piece of wood and immediately imagine what you can do with it. Not just an idea of what you could do with it, but also the talent to then implement this idea. Wonderful work, thx for sharing with us.
That was the most unusual piece of wood I have ever seen, the resin really made it's character come out, great turn Jack!
Thanks buddy
Unusual enough it will probably set off someone's trypophobia.
@@davezad Yeah that’s what I did for me
It's a seed pod from a Banksia, a small tree native to Australia (and, I imagine, nearby areas)
@@christophersmith108 Very cool thank you, I thought it was one of those pods from Aliens
It’s astonishing the beautiful gifts that Mother Nature provides. The textures, designs and color variations are gorgeous. Beautiful piece
That's a banksia seed pod from Australia. There are many different species of banksia in Australia. Some have large pods, some small, but all are unique and beautiful. They are one of my favourite native Australian trees and the flowers are gorgeous. You can dry them for dried floral arrangements too. Some species from the Australian east coast to look up - Banksia integrifolia, B. robur, B. serrata, B. aemula and there's even the "blue" Banksia plagiocarpa.
The patterns came out really well and the colours you used blended in well too!
Beautiful! I had doubts when I saw the metallic gold, but the results speak for themselves! Well done.
Do you just lay in bed thinking about making something that no one else had ever thought about? That was was so creative!
У Вас руки просто золотые, Вы Большой Умничка!!!
Fuck ruZZian redfashists
You are an inspiration to the art of wood turning. I like the way you show each individual step. Just beautiful! Thanks for sharing!
Great color choice with the dye powders! Thanks for sharing.
I've never seen the inside of a banksia nut! Coolest cup ever! Hugs from Western Australia 🇦🇺
Very beautiful. It reminds me of coffee beans. Perfect to make it a coffee cup.
Hi Jack you always amaze me with what wood you use and what you make out of it. This piece of wood is lovely and the resin really brought its character out, the gold colour of resin looks great. Your a brilliant craftsman and the coffee mug is magnificent well done Jack. I can't wait for your next video I bet it'll be just as awesome if not more so. I have enjoyed all your videos and your creations, thank you so much for all your videos and items you have made so far. Amanda
Never heard of a banksia pod. Great looking travel cup. Another wonderful job.
Without doubt, no one will have a coffee cup like this! I was spell bound from the start. Amazing idea to use banksias. Such amazing colours and natural patterns.
Well thanks so much Mrs D. Were you already acquainted with Banksia pods?
@@JackMackWoodturning no, never heard of them but now I’m seeking them out. Thanks for the continued inspiration!
😊👍🏻😘
That is such a nice good color! Before you stirred it I was concerned because I thought the those colors wouldn't mix well but they sure did! And it looks so neat with that wood. It just looks really cool.
One of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen! And my daddy was a great woodworker! Love it!
Креатив.
Желание творить красоту.
Спасибо за видео.
Never saw a piece of wood like that before. It looked like a sort of cone from a conifer. Then to see you turn it so, with the right color epoxy embellishment, well, just perfect. I'd be pleased to have such a drinking vessel. Thanks for sharing - beautiful work.
Beautiful *and* utilitarian. Who says you can't have it all?
Nice work Jack, as always.
Очень красивая работа, спасибо за видео.
Это что у него вообще?
I love Banksia grandis. Awesome job 👌
Оригинально. Мастер молодец.👏👍
An interesting piece Jack! The gold green accent is a really nice touch with the nature of it. Amazing how you fit it right around the cup! Enjoyed it man!!
Didnt know what you were going to make - but this eventually "turned" out into a massively beautiful creation ! 10*
That was nice we'll "rounded" pun.
That was gorgeous. I didnt plan to watch it al but I got mesmerized.
Fantastic. What a wonderful idea and great work! Thank you for sharing.
ooooo Jack, not only do your skills blow me away but the exotic woods and products you use to create:) This is so beautiful and I enjoyed reading about banksia pod:) It has long been an idea of mine to put crushed gemstones in cracks in wood. Not that you need me to give you any ideas:) You are the one that inspires us to dream:)
Thanks. The gemstones sound like a lovely idea. 😊
“You are the one that inspires us to dream” is the best compliment anyone could get, and so beautifully poetic too!
Looks wicked cool as a coffee cup! I had no idea what to expect really but I'm impressed as always!
A harmonious combination of resin and wood 👍👍👍
Got a huge Black Sabbath vibe from this. It is definitely gorgeous. Kudos to you. Love your art.
Beautiful and unusual. I'd be more than glad to take my morning coffee in this. Amazing work as always. ❤️
This is absolutely gorgeous. Very nice job 👍👍
Very nice. That's a sweet cup. Can't wait til the next video
Cool looking coffee mug
Thanks Spark. Did the holes freak you out?
I love watching your creative work. And I feel sad, because I live too far away from your studio. Otherwise I woild come over and watch your every day. You are an adorable artist for me. Thank you for what you create, dear Jack
🧡👍🏻
Amazing Wooden coffee cup making!!!!
Thanks A. Are you a coffee drinker?
@@JackMackWoodturning 😃😃yes! November to January February! Thanks🌹❤
These videos are really inspiring me to want to start woodturning. I spend 90% of my waking time in front of a computer writing code or designing visuals, and it's starting to take a toll on my physical health.
It’s so funny how we aspire to things other people do or have.. I personally would love to understand code.. I think you have a very good chance of starting Woodturning and getting good at it whereas I have no chance of ever understanding code 😆
Another stunning piece! That piece of wood was great start, but magnificently executed skills makes amazing art. Always inspiring, thanks for sharing.
Вот это я понимаю красота своими руками шедевр просто
That is just beautiful!
Thank you
Brilliant. Never seen one of those before. Makes a great coffee mug.

this is giving me goosebumps
Is that bad?
@@JackMackWoodturning nope 😄
Probably a slight case of Trypophobia, this cup also triggers me a bit. Creeper patterns
That is absolutely beautiful!!! I just started watching your videos and I am enthralled with your talent...truly a gift from God. You sure know what your doing on that lathe!!
best thing i've seen in my life
Wow.. have you watched any of my other videos 😊😉
@@JackMackWoodturning yeah but this one is my type
Great work. Extremely imaginative. The pattern reminds me of paintings by Klimt.
Fantastic looking coffee cup. You always do very good work. And I love it.
Thanks Margaret. Your parcel should be with you soon 😊👍🏻
Okay. Thank you very much. When will be putting the coffee cup for sell?
I think this is clever and lovely, but had to stop watching b/c of trypophobia… you do beautiful work.
@@mimiyourfairybookmother but the think only has holes in it for the fiery 2 mins of the video
Now that's a coffee cup, I have one that size and it's refilled 3-4x a day. Love the color, another awesome piece. ♥️ From Boston
Mesmerized! The final piece is always a wonderful surprise!
I've always loved those pods turned. Wonderful work.
Trypophobia 😭😭😭
Had to look it up. Sorry that you suffer so.
A very beautiful coffee cup Jack.
Tu as vraiment beaucoup de goûts. Tout est tres tres bien choisi .la PERFECTION .
Probably the most disturbing cup I've ever seen...excellent work 🔥

😊👍🏻
I think I have a phobia with lots of holes, but I'm also curious about the results... can you skip directly to the results section?
Just skip to 2 mins in brother
Ok bro
I have one of these seed pods as an incense pot. They look so unusual! Loved the cup!
One of the coolest thing I've seen in month. Thank you for sharing it with us!
That is amazingly beautiful! I love whatever it was that you used. It was so unusual. Fantastic piece of art!!
Thanks J. Are you a gardener?
...I love the banksia pods...so unusual...and the cup turned out amazing!!!...nice work Jack...👍
Have you given any thought about casting a sponge gourd (luffa)???
I have fined it a lot of thought. The loofa is hanging in my workshop and it very nearly became this coffee cup until I picked up the pod instead.
Another wonderful piece of art, that just happens to be a daily piece of art.
Absolutely exceptional fro idea to the end
What kind of wood is that? Was the resin used to fill in the holes and seal the outside? What is that spray you use at the end? I notice you cover all your tools. You always amaze me with the item you come up with. I have a challenge for you. Have you ever thought about turning a set of crochet hooks? I’m not sure what kind of research would go into it but I bet you could do it.
I used to make a living from crochet hooks. I swore I’d never make them again. I must have made over 10,000 of them over the years
Wood … not really wood, it’s a banksia pod
Resin is alumilit clear cast
Spray is a crystal gloss lacquer. 😊
I'd buy them Brenda. I'd love a set of hand-turned crochet hooks 😍
I’m not making any more 😆
@@JackMackWoodturning 😂😂😂 but....do you have a video of you making them? I've never seen them being made....no pressure 😂
集合体恐怖症の俺には鳥肌が止まらない😢
This is so incredibly beautiful and unique!
I find it funny you’ve chose to omit yourself measuring your pieces during the process. Makes the end result that much more magical.
That's gorgeous. I love banksia.
That would be a nice mug to have. Well done!
Leave it to Jack Mack to see an unusual pod like this and think "coffee mug" 😃. Beautiful work.
Great craftsmanship!
An impressive combination of creativity, perfection and beauty. My compliments!
That's a most unusual piece of wood, but wow.... turned out beautiful!! 👍👍
That's so beautiful. Who wouldn't want a cup like that?
I love the pods there such a beautiful material to make things out of...
This is….. *✨WOODTASTIC✨*
Unique and beautiful!❤
Nice job. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a banksia pod big enough for a mug insert.
Absolutely beautiful
Nice work on the Banksia pod Jack. Keep safe, John
That turned out beautiful. I have never seen anyone on RUclips making these coffee mugs. I make them for birthday gifts. Have one on the lathe at home right now actually lol.
Beautiful coffee cup! I had no idea how you were going to make it usable, and then you pulled the tumbler out. Kudos!
Everyone doesn't t seeing behind the beauty of wood. You always ahead one step after complite the job how look after making this. you Showing beauty of nature by the art.
Your creativity is astounding!!
Nice use of a Banksia Cone. A great Aussie tree that only regenerates after a bushfire.
Beautiful work of art. Thanks.
