that scene between Naomi and Holden... damn, that was some really heavy stuff there. It really is a tribute to the actors and the writers to have be able to understand and agree with both characters over such a huge decision!
I still can't believe Drummer's actress is as bubbly in real life as Drummer is dour.
I've always felt the greatness of the show isn't dedication to Newtonian physics, it isn't political intrigue, it isn't the captivating Belter culture, it isn't the tactile sets, and it isn't even the killer space combat.
It's the arguments where no one is right but no one is wrong. Just people at an understandable impasse, trying to figure out the next step.
Sometimes it's a life and death decision and sometimes it just about two people who love each other.
But it's always deliciously complicated.
With any luck and fan driven demand, we will see some more Expanse in the future. The cast and showrunners want to make more. We haven't even touched the rest of the story at this point.
One can wish, they said this may not be the end of the universe. The reasons for this being the final season is this series is extremely expensive due to the CGI, and in the books there is a 30 year time jump and making the young actors look older would be yet more money and and issues.
@@saltysheppard549 I think you could shorten the gap a little so you don't have such an older cast but you HAVE to have a decent sized jump because of Laconia. Without spoiling, there's a lot of growing on Laconia that I don't think could be believable if they shortened that time jump to 20 years or less. Laconia and the other new systems need a lot of maturing
I did an actual fist pump and audible "Yay!" when they first showed the supply depot, and it was a bolo configuration (two loads connected by a long cable, rotating around the common center of mass to create spin gravity). So cool!
Josep's arm. A free Navy straggler was hiding behind the shelves. He set off a grenade to knock the crate off on top of Drummer, but Josep threw her out of the way and ended up under the crate himself. Drummer dispatched the straggler with her typical efficiency.
Michio may not be a great gunner, but as a medic, she came in clutch. She knew what to do and what not to, and when the amputation became unavoidable she handled it with courage and grace while everyone else was busy trying not to retch (including the reactors). Definitely a keeper.
Seriously? You guys didn't notice that the guy who talked to the Admiral (the adult who console the little girl ) was Cortazar? The same Cortazar who was working on the protomolecule in past season and as kidnapped by Marco Inaros?
Did y'all forget Amos growing his fingers back in season 4? Haha. Glad you are watching the bonus scenes.

I loved Bobbie and Amos both missing Alex. I’m glad they’ve given Amos and Bobbie more time together.
I also loved Michio stepping up and proving she did have something to give.

As you two already know that the writing in this show is on another level. They can thread the needle not just between scenes or episodes but also seasons!
About Filip, at this point it's hard to figure where his head is. Just remember he has spent his whole life with Marco and seeing life through that upbringing. He only had Naomi for a few days at best. So it would make sense that it would take a lot to change his perspective. That's all I will say! I will say this, I will always trust these writers!

Oh, hello kitty. :) Mao didn't kill himself! :p I don't think the people on the depot were raiders, but Free Navy that were getting the supplies ready to be picked up by Marco, but I'm guessing his tangle with the Roci put them behind schedule.
Drummer is such an amazing character. She is all sorts of awesome.

I think Filip's speech is actually evidence of him having serious doubts about his father. I think he's fighting those doubts though, and that's what this speech is. He's essentially arguing with himself. The speech is him putting on a mask and seeing if it suits him. I don't think he believes it does. His facial expression afterwards confirms this to me.
I think it's also his own guilt for the mass genocide he helped commit and needing some way to justify it to himself. If he allows himself to lose faith or if they lose the war then he murdered billions for a cause that ends up being pointless and he can't deal with that.

Yeah I think you're dead on. I think people often miss this kind of stuff and take scenes at face value. But The Expanse often has characters say or do certain things, but we as the audience are meant to gleam some thing else that's subtly told through the performance.
It's one of my favorite aspects of the show. I think that's what makes rewatches of it so rewarding. Theres so many things you can catch that you may have glossed over initially.
I totally agree with you. When I started to realised I was raised in a cult, and that everything I was taught was a huge lie with the cult leaders actually doing all the things that they professed were "sins", I still wasn't able to handle criticism of the cult/cult leaders by people I considered less devoted followers.
It took a while before I was able to accept criticism of the cult leaders being voiced, even though I was feeling angry and betrayed by the evil the cult was doing. It took me time before I was able to process what I found out to be lies and betrayal vs the loyalty to the cult that was imposed upon me from the day I was born. It takes time to navigate a way out of brainwashing and indoctrination.
I guess to some extent, it could be likened to people bitching about their own family members and being really angry with them, and completely disapproving them, but not being able to handle non-family criticism of the same family members.
I felt this scene with Filip accurately showed his inner turmoil as he starts to realise his father and "the cause" was not what he was lead to believe his whole life.

23:40 Hm, I think people misunderstand that scene. He is indeed cracking. He is in pain. He starts to question if everything they do is right. All the pain the inflinct upon others and each other. This is like him trying to keep going, to justify it why it has to continue now, by doing something extreme. Not sure if there is a name for it. But maybe cognitive dissonance (two opposing viewpoints fighting) plus sunk cost fallacy playing into it.

As someone who watched Pet Cemetery at a very young age, this episode disturbed me. 😮
Laconia plays a huge part in the final books. Don’t want to spoil it in case anyone reads them, but if you think the war against Mars and Earth and the War with the Free navy was crazy, it gets downright biblical later.
I like how one person put it, though the books are more like three duology followed by a trilogy:
First trilogy: thee way Cold War
Second trilogy: Marcos
Third trilogy: classified cosmic calamitous craziness

#25:15 Out of all the souls in the whole system she is the loneliest person and saddest and the most lost soul in all that dark emptiness and nothingness. She made me cry a river. After all these seasons she is the one I can truly relate to and feel what she feels. love her so much.
Regarding the firing squad for the driver that killed Alexander..earlier the girl Cara was narrowly missed by a cart driver who yelled at her to get out of the way. I presume it was the same driver (why, otherwise, would the writers have shown us that bit?) who was careless and uncaring. This probably wasn't his first close scrape.
Although there was no way for Holden to know, I don't believe Marco would have been an effective martyr.If Holden had not disarmed the nuke, it would have taken out the Free Navy's most potent warship, taken out Marco, taken out Marco's namesake (Filip) and taken out Marco's most capable second-in-command Rosenfeld. We see how factional they are, and I suspect that most were like Walker, caught up in the moment of initial victory. I don't think the Free Navy would continue to be an effective force without Marco.
Rosenfeld I think is my favorite new character in Season 6... It's too bad we didn't get to see more of her in the rest of the show. She's one of the "bad guys" but she's super sharp and unflappable. Her effect on Marco is super interesting.
It’s weird watching people who haven’t read the books, but I kinda like the journey they’re on and how the perspectives change as the series develops. Love hearing your theories while knowing what’s ahead. Hope you two are ready for the next couple episodes, a wild ride ahead 🙏🏽
Marco had people at the supply depot guarding it, and another group getting everything ready to have the depots pulled out for transit.
Don't think the torpedo can be rearmed remotely, disarming likely complete cuts a circuit to prevent it from accidentally going off. It would be too dangerous to have them be able to be disarmed and armed again. They would likely have to replace the firing circuit manually.

BTW: Pella was the capitol of the Macedonian Empire during the time of Philip and Alexander of Macedon.
Filips little flip at the end was interesting. He's clearly conflicted now, but had to show everyone in that room he was not. Completely in denial at this point.

There are no "accidents" in Laconia.
But if Marco became a martyr, would that make things more militant in the long run? This is very mature story telling, so unusual for space operas where everything is usually black or white. Me I would have torpedoed the little dictator and let the future work itself out, but I could be wrong.
Holden wouldn't have the information to know for sure, but we the audience know that his hold over Belters is purely a matter of his own personal magnetism and early successes. The unity of the Belt is shallow enough that taking out him, Filip, and Rosenfeld would have fatally decapitated the Free Navy. The Belters are historically too factioned.
@@kirkdarling4120 - One never knows what flips an empire. The groups that unified into the Visigoths were initially factional, to their detriment. Once they united with a common goal, they decimated the Roman Empire.

They were one of the best and well written relationships I ever watched. Their issues as a couple were logical and also well managed through all the series 🥺 we don’t see much of that

I understand the dilemma that Holden was faced with but honestly he took the easy way out I feel. They may never find Marco in such a compromised situation again. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. I guess Holden never saw Star Trek..lol

No spoilers... but the Laconia thing with the "strange dogs" will make a lot of sense later. Hopefully the show gets some new Avenue to complete the story, but seriously, when this season ends read the books, you will not regret the decision.
